Jimmy Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I fear the complete annihilation of yet another City player who has been great for the club over the years may be complete. In Alan Young we have a commentator who I don't always agree with, but who always tells it like he thinks it.. Or seems to anyway. As I said earlier, his opinion is just as valid as any other fookers... And if he is biased towards City... Good on him I say. If RL are so weak they'll get rid because of comments on a forum then the bosses should lose their jobs, don't really like their commentary but i still listen when at home games for a different perspective on the match
ozleicester Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Dont feel hurt Alan, commentate fairly and honestly. There are thousands of people who RELY on player and radio leicester for our information about the team we love. 1) Stop showing your bias toward and against certain players. 2) Tell me about what is happening DURING the game...draw me a verbal picture. 3) Acknowledge and accept that the game isnt played the way it was 20 years ago...and possibly that the way it was played then...might not work now. 4) Let people finish their comments when they disagree with you.
Raj Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Im bored of him constantly slating Bamba when there is a center back who is more worthy of being slated. I aint getting into him being racist or not tho...

We're their target audience. If their target audience is unhappy then they have to listen (no pun intended...). That said, I'd not like to see anyone lose a job that they're clearly passionate about, especially a former City player.

That isn't his job. He's a summariser. He summarises, poorly. But as I said, I wouldn't like to see anyone lose a job they're passionate about. If he took on board some of the posts as constructive criticism then he could learn a lot and improve tenfold. Then he'd be an asset.

5waller5 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I think it was always obvious that they both read this forum. You can hear the references, especially Stringer to be fair, during the commentary (like Stringer's relationship and connections to the club). It's probably best to not read it anymore boys - then you'd stop trying to ingratiate yourselves to people. I think AY's love of Steve (sorry, Frankie) Howard is down to the feeling that fans love him (why do people still chant his name?), and his Beckford dislike from his reading on here .... either way sucking up to the fans is not what you are paid for - impartial reporting of facts is!
NextPlease Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 The vast majority of fans have "favourites" who they then don't like other criticising, this is no different From watching all the home games & then listening to all the away games, I reckon the vast majority of Young's concerns are valid 1) Bamba is so unpredictable, it must be hard to be his centre back partner Some fans seem to think he does everything perfectly because he does one ot two mazy dribbles out of the defence However he always looks likely to drop a clanger and if you look at footage of recent goals, it's been "his man" who has scored on several occasions I think this is why it's a popular current suggestion to try him in midfield, as it would lesson the impact of clangers, while meaning his runs end up for closer to the oppositions goal 2) Abe's best role is certainly the holding midfielder where he sweeps up & nicks the ball before it gets to the back 4, he has never looked great in a wide role. Young's main point yesterday was to swap Abe & Danns over once they started the 2nd half. Danns has stated since he has been here that a central mid field role is what he wants, he doesn't like playing wide (where he has been played most games he has appeared), therefore he is hardly likely to be happy with Young's comments, so don't you think they are the real reason for Dann's tweet? 3) Beckford has been largely frustrating, in part this is because he isn't getting his "favoured through ball" being played too him, and while it may not be his natural game to chase around like Nugent, there is no excuse for his lack of effort in not winning any headers, at the last home game Schlupp was trying & winning several by putting considerable effort into his jumps to the ball, Beckford makes half hearted attempts at best
blueharmie Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 stringer and young should have listened to the palace match on 5 live. the commentary is so much better, can really get a good idea what is happening and its so much more professional.

cc_star Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 You moaners happy now Depends if anything changes Think everyone likes the passion for City, but the summarizing isn't really summarizing if its just filtered through his hatred of certain people. And col city fan... he has to summarise what happens, for eg. If Howard let's NP & his teammates down through sheer stupidity then he needs to say that, it wasn't like it was an unlucky last ditch tackle with passsshhhunnnn it was stupid. That's just one example there's hundreds all the time on an ongoing basis Summarising with passion for the club or whatever = great Summarising whilst filtering what actually happened through his agenda = unprofessional & bad for listeners He is not a commenter on a forum, he has a job to do

Are you assuming that he has an agenda? The little I have heard from Young ( cos I'm at most games) he comes across, to me, as a frustrated Leicester City fan who gets peeved when he percieves players to not be pulling their weight. You can call this 'unprofessional' if you like... But as I said earlier, I'd rather perceive this in his voice than have to listen to someone like Gary Neville on Sky who bores me to fookin tears. The point I was making again is the level of vitriol hurled at an ex City player who, IMO is trying to give his honest view of a football match... Not yours, not mine, but his own has been so vicious over the past couple or three days, like the Wellens threads were... And Young is merely a passionate commentator on a provincial radio station. I don't think it's necessary... Is all
acooling08 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Leicester fans are embarrassing. Moan moan moan about EVERYTHING. There's a line between criticising someone, and just purely attacking them.
stockyfox Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Having been prompted to read through this entire thread via a comment posted on Bentley’s Roof, I have to say that I think it is quite sad that so many comments contained therein are so callous, biting and really nasty about someone who was not only one the Clubs outstanding players from yesteryear but is as passionate about the Club as any other fan. Whether I personally agree with Alan Young’s comments is of no consequence but I will defend to the last his right to say them. Indeed, I shudder to think what we listeners might be subjected to if some of the posters on this thread were to find themselves in the commentary box as the summariser or just how much better the commentary would be if they were given the opportunity to replace Ian Stringer. I have followed the fortunes of Leicester City for sixty two years. Now, afflicted with Parkinson’s Disease which is just a fact of life and for which I crave no sympathy, I can’t get to as many matches as I would wish but when I can, I do. I am eternally grateful to RL that I have the opportunity to listen to the commentary on every game, and that we are all given the opportunity to ‘ have your say’ on RL after the game or on ‘Football Forum’ - but how many of these posters do so? It seems many are very happy to criticise and mock those who do . Well I do – Peter from Stockport – that’s me. I phoned in to RL after the game on Monday to ask Charlie Dagnall why on Twitter, he had been worried about LCFC. In a general reply, I had tweeted back –‘Worry is the interest on trouble before it is due. Today is the start of the rest of the season and we are going to start with a win!’ I never had any doubts and I was well chuffed. I enjoyed the commentary and I had listened with interest to Alan Young’s comments throughput the game. So on to Forest. Get a life some of you. Enjoy what you can while you can. Lighten up .Just live and let live and please, respect your fellow fans. Happy New Year. Stocky
