Grewks Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 Anybody else believe that this is our major problem? Anyone noticed that whenever our defence has the ball the midfield is always around 30-40 yards away and therefore they need to hoof it away? The midfield neither creates enough or prevents enough, king is the worst player in our team by a country mile HE DOES NOTHING! For a Central Midfielder that is ridiculous. To all you morons wanting Pearson out, who are we gonna get? Remember Pearson has never failed at any club, he will again create a strong team just like before here, at hull and Southampton.
BNET Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 He did what at Hull and Southampton ? l suggest you have another look at his record. He's got no longer than a month with us.
Stand UP... Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 he signed talented players for hull for nothing and given the time will bring quality into our team which is desperatley needed and hopefully fk wellens and king off!
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 Yes the midfield is by far our main problem. Pearson has had 2 weeks now and we don't look any closer to strengthening it.

Did what at Hull??? The reason they are where they are is all down to his rebuilding job, i see that apart from Dawson and Mannone the starting eleven was all purchased by Pearson for peanuts. Yes the midfield is by far our main problem. Pearson has had 2 weeks now and we don't look any closer to strengthening it. The window lasts 4 weeks. calm down there is plenty of time left. the last thing we need to do is buy another load of crap just like your precious sven did.

For clubs to sell players from the teams they built up in the summer, they need to replace them & whoever they sign will need to replace them & so on & so on Your repetitiveness without looking at the facts was boring ages ago We did our biz in the summer, Johnson was signed to replace Wellens, Danns King & Fernandes Abe. 2 players for each position & all that The 4-3-3 didn't work & we didn't sign the players to play any other way, hence the make-do team selection Johnson has been a waste of time Danns has been frequently poor & eratic at best Fernandes was great on one occasion but not so good on others & anyway, didn't want to be here So not only do we need to replace the players Sven tried to replace, but we need to replace their replacements. We're not going to do that until a) we can offload the bulk of this deadwood we've accrued b) whoever we're trying to sign from has signed someone to replace whoever it is we're trying to sign. This will take them time so it will take us t-i-m-e, please get it before one of us dies We should be signing 1 or 2 players to patch the squad up for the run-in, not having to sign half a side because the whole summer didn't pan out.

Someone that speaks sense, exactly what i think and would have said. Apart from I think Danns has been played out of position a lot and looks better in the middle.
bluearmy7 Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 its simple we dont need billy sharp, we dp need c,stewart and kebe or marshall we also need to replace wellens cuz he hampers king and he is crap nowif you notice kingy plays well when old 4 day wellens aint playing
volpeazzurro Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 If you have a problem it has to be addressed quickly or else you will start sliding down the table and end up playing catchup. Oh wait, we already are. Whilst I agree, this is the worst time of the year to try and sort it out. We have to be realistic and face the possibility that the players we want just aren't going to be available to sign in this transfer window and to sign players that are no better than we've already got just for the sake of it would be ludicrous. Signing midfielder's that were no better than what we'd already got was clearly Sven's specialism and we don't want NP to fall into the same trap just to appease the fans. Better to sign no-one at all and to make do until the summer would be better than this. Rather than buy more deadwood, loans until the summer would be better if there is anyone of significant quality available. So don't be too surprised if little happens, let NP and Walsh take their time and source some good 'up and comings' that will pass the test of time.
mhs123 Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 until we get people who are willing to roll their sleeves up and fight from the first whistle until the last we will do nothing in any division, our midfield is lightweight and lacks passion it really is that simple.
Fox92 Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 The problem lies with our football. It is too direct. We constantly launch it long and players like Nugent, King, Wellens and Beckord are not going to offer anything, they need the ball to feet. I think this needs to change. Also, yes, the midfield isn't strong enough. The wingers are not good enough, I have doubts over the centre halfs and someone needs to look at why most of the goals come from Peltier's side. That said, with our direct play, we need a mobile target man. Simple. A mobile target man. I'm fed up of watching Kasper launch the ball only for it to come back because the forwards cannot hold it up or flick it on. We should have made a loan bid for Chris Wood. He did what at Hull and Southampton ? l suggest you have another look at his record. He's got no longer than a month with us. Well, he saved Southampton from relegation and at Hull he cleared their debts and totally rebuit the team.

Cruss5 Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 The midfield is bad but i think it stems down to the defence doing long balls, against ipswich Bamba did a fantastic run and the ipswich defence didn't no what to do. Give it someone in midfield and lets make a run at the defenders, especially against forest. The strikers we have can't cope with long balls unless howard is playing. Beckford will come good when he gets the service, he makes great runs but nobody notices his runs so he doesn't get the ball. Admittingly he is struggling with confidence. What about dyer up front with nugent, he can't cross but he can certainly run at defenders

So a guy who scored double figures in goals from central midfield in consecutive seasons, was second or thereabouts in the shots statistics and is arguably the fastest and most accurate passer in our club has suddenly become rubbish because we now have a side that hardly passes and moves at all. Enlightening. If you want to sort the problems in our side we should go back to pass and move and get rid of people who don't compliment that style at all.
Oh tommy wright Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 Midfield is the problem. What an inspired thread. I always thought it was might fault because I wasn't singing at every game.
LCFC BEAST Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 Midfield? By our recent performances I didn't think we had one!

Well, he saved Southampton from relegation and at Hull he cleared their debts and totally rebuit the team. I liked the 3-5-2 in the first half vs Palace because of this. Although Pelts didnt play in that game I believfe it could work for him too. The 3 defenders covered the whole of the back line when Moore and Kennedy were forward and because we didnt play with wingers it made sure that most of the time they knew they had to get back quickly which is what Peltier doesnt do. Against Palace we defended very well, and apart from their goal which was probably due to inexperience at this level from Moore, they didnt threaten the wide positions. Though I'm not sure if we will see the 3-5-2 again soon, unfortunately.

You are wrong as usual ( Grewks was right ). King hasn't suddenly become rubbish, he just is! Yes he did score a few goals for us, which should be a bonus for a midfield player, it shouldn't be the absolute be all and end all of a midfield player. We can always hope he might have a run of goalscoring again, but there is no hope he will ever be a good midfield player, and I mean NO HOPE!
iamafox Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 IMO, the whole of our midfield isn't good enough to compete for promotion, dare I say that some of the teams below us in the league have a better midfield than we do!
fleckneymike Posted 15 January 2012 Posted 15 January 2012 he signed talented players for hull for nothing and given the time will bring quality into our team which is desperatley needed and hopefully fk wellens and king off! This 'nothing' you speak of, does that include 800k Hobbs, 1.2m Fryatt, 1m+ for McLean, 300k for Stewart, 300k for Chester, 500k for Evans, and undisclosed fees for Simpson, Dudgeon. Not to mention the wages for Koren, Harper, Roseinior and Basso?

The stats over several seasons say exactly what King contributed compared with the rest of the team. Why not read them?
LesterGloster Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 I see Billy Sharpe has turned down a move to Leicester. Not surprising given our current displays. Anyway, we have decent, proven strikers on the books but they will not score any goals if the midfield are not performing. I reckon Nugent had no strikes on Saturday simply because of our poor midfield display. The same applies to our last few home games where there was no creativity in the side apart from Konchesky charging down the wing and Dyer having the odd burst at the defence. Its no good hoofing the ball up to our frowards and missing out the midfield. Even if they win the ball there is no support. Even Beckford will start to score if someone gets a decent pass to him, but it never happens. That's why we all get so frustrated with the players and the team. So I suggest Nigel and his happy band concentrate on some strong midfielders to get us out of the mess we are so obviously in.
weggy1976 Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Yes the midfield is by far our main problem. Pearson has had 2 weeks now and we don't look any closer to strengthening it. The midfield = Dyer, Wellens, King, Gallagher - that is PEARSONS midfield. They are all HIS players. Something underlying wrong if they don't want to play for him.
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 The midfield is: a. too lightweight - it needs a big, horrible, ball winner in there (this is sooo obvious to me). Gally, King are pussy boys and Abe is too slow b. not creative - it also needs someone who can run the game, pick a pass and pop up with goals. Our midfield is shocking...then again, Beckford and Nugent DO get chances, which they spurn all too often.. especially Beckford.
