steveherbe Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 just watched 'highlights' on Meridian (southern tv). Bunch of t055er5! Saints had 7 shots, they showed them all. We had 18 shots, they showed the two goals, Dyers chance, and Konch's free kick. made it look like Saints were good. Mind you, loved the shots of the ground emptying with 10 minutes to go.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 We can't hold it against Southampton fans for feeling very bitter and twisted remember how we used to feel when we had David Connolly up front by himself and that was years ago before he was too old Nice one Jace...

Happy Fox Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 We still need to buy a winger or two, then we will rip teams to shreds imo.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 **** sake I had a nice long post that's disappeared. Basically it was a fantastic night. Definitely the best I've seen us play since QPR 09. We were brilliant. Drinkwater looks very promising. Fonz didn't have enough time to make a real impact. Its performances like that and nights like this which is why I love Nigel Pearson. I generally stay pretty level headed after games but I've always said that given time, I truly believe NP can develop us into a fantastic team. Atmosphere was great, especially near the back! Only thing I'm not particulatly keen on is the "If your watching on the telly your a ****" chant but hey ho, we generally created a great noise and we had a great following down there tonight. Tonight makes up for the two terrible days down there in the 07/08 season. Posted Yesterday, 09:57 PM Nugent hates Southampton. I'd love for him to bag a goal or two and really wind up their fans . 0 Nugent is my hero. Love him for antagonising their fans after scoring a great goal. Also encouraging us to raise our voices when we were singing his name. He deserved it, fantastic player and I'm very happy to have him at our club. Proud to be a Leicester fan tonight.
lcfcadam Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Only thing I'm not particulatly keen on is the "If your watching on the telly your a ****" chant That is a sensationally retarded chant...
Papa Shango Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Saints fan here. Apologies about the disgusting abuse towards Nugent. Sad to say we've got a lot of idiot fans, so it doesn't surprise me that much. We were giving him plenty of stick before the goal, so he had every right to give it back. Football fans are so sensitive though. Can dish it out but can't take it. Think I'm in the minority of Saints fans on this one, but I quite admire players who give it back and have a bit of banter about them. Our fans took the abuse too far though. As for the game itself, no arguments with the result. We were piss poor, by far the worst we've played this season. You pressed well, preventing us from getting any sort of rhythm going.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Only got to see the first half, stupid work commitments. Thought the much malinged Lloyd Dyer was very good, just harrased there right full back in that first half and if he pulled the trigger could of got himself a goal.
Papa Shango Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 We can't hold it against Southampton fans for feeling very bitter and twisted remember how we used to feel when we had David Connolly up front by himself and that was years ago before he was too old TBF Connolly has been first class for us this season. Awful game tonight, but still a great player despite his age.

As with Wellens, the criticism of Dyer is well over the top. He gives us his all every match

Ahoy there shipmate! think you played us at an unlikely time we had a great result midweek against forest and the tempo we played clearly stayed with us into today's match. With abit more fire power upfront the result could of easily been different Conolly looked crap tonight still would be surprised if you didn't go up this season best of luck for the remaining matches
cc_star Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Yuki wanted to be home with his family, especially as his wife is expecting Whilst the cats away I suppose ;-)
Raj Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Some Del-Boy types outside the turnstile just giving um away! Fantastic gesture by the club. I got 2 scarfs @ £12 each(price tagged up) and £6 of food and drink. My ticket only cost £27 and I live in Southampton so free night out.....Everybody Danns Now Made for a great away trip for all City fans then.
cc_star Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 We still need to buy a winger or two, then we will rip teams to shreds imo. When Dyer plays well I think we'd struggle to get anyone better unless we're ever in the Prem
nedfox Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Top job tonigh-t big hats off to all those that travelled the support was immence glad my trip home was just up the M3. What a difference from the side I watched boxing day and the slight imrovement at Palace tonight was a big step up in all areas. Special big up for Dyer ran and ran one track back was as important as anything else in the game with a great goal stopping block. Drinkwater looks a find- and the Nugent goal was a peach. Happy away days for all us southern Foxes and roll on the trip to Brighton
easilee Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 According to S'Ampton fans, Billy Sharp was in the stands tonight. Penny for his thoughts (if it was him).
kylecoare Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 well i slaged our fans off a few weeks ago! but if your team is second int the table you dont ever boo them, hows that going to help, can see southampton going into free fall, their fans already think they have won the league and a hard set of games.. As for us, again, second time gloating, we did what i said we would do, when i had a go at our fans i said give us a couple more games, and its starting to show, and i dont think we have seen best yet, these guys are only just forming a bond, imagine them next time we are on tv and i think it will be the leicester of prem quality, not saying we wil get there, lots of things have to happen, but the last 5 games have shown me enough to know they can
marbelladave Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Richie Wellens best game of the season IMO.. Second half he was superb... More or less agree, for once...... In reality neither Wellens nor Danns are very strong defensively, particularly in deep positions. Where they both excelled tonight was their ability (and commitment) to close down in more forward areas, denying the opposition any chance to build from the back. The result was a total inability for them to get good possession in forward areas so our back 4 could step forward and snuff out the rather shambolic attacks that were all Southampton could manage. I have often said that the King/Wellens partnership has been the issue and that I would accept the dropping of King if that was the only way this partnership could be broken up, don't get me wrong, I think King is a far better player than Wellens but King/Wellens is so awful that I do not ever want to see that pairing again. Also in the last couple of games, Wellens has been playing much further forward, where his passing skills can be used to good effect, for me he remains a liability whenever he tries to 'boss' the game from deep positions as was so often the case earlier in the season.

The movement we've shown in past 2 games means he has people to actually pass to, without that movement he previously had no choice but to get rid, also it looks like we can settle on 442 now as we just haven't been able to get to grips with 433 under either manager (a formation which hasn't suited Wellens, or anyone really since last Feb) But with movement from his teammates he's showing he's able to find them. If we stop with the movement we're better off dropping Wellens though as the unrealistic balls he has to resort to in those circumstances serve nobody well least of all himself.

Said this last season. Thought he should be tried out much further forward (not sure about 'in the hole' but definitely the most advanced centre mid. He does have vision and the ability to play key passes.
Thracian Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 An excelllent team effort this, first win at St Marys, a much appreciated pie and pint, first view of our promising new signings and a final comment from the son of mine who's a Southampton fan .... "We were so comprehensively beaten It flattered us to score none." For me the man of the match was my relative Alex who led a good part of the singing from the top of the stand and what an all-round effort that was. I've rarely heard so many different songs, including some off-the -cuff new ones including "If you watched it on the telly you're a c**t followed mockingly, as the Southampton fans began drifting home very early on "You showld have watched in on the telly" and, when the dribble of disappearing fans turned into a torrent, "have they called a fire drill?" Southampton's fans were so muted they didn't even rise to the bait when the chant went up "Going Down, going Down" and this onslaught of verbal teasing didn't stop throughout ... a real 10/10 performance from the travelling faithful. On the pitch Nugent's opener was a cracker, Mills doubled the lead and Konchesky was so unlucky to see a free-kick hit the inside of a post, flash across goal and end up safe. I was well impressed with newcomer Danny Drinkwater - who warmed to his own song - by giving the sort of performance that made him look as if he'd been in the team for weeks. All action, quick feet, a guy who sees the pictures and who cogged in with his team-mates like fish goes with chips. The big factor was that we defended much higher up the pictch. We had the energy to close them down quickly and they really weren't ever allowed time or space on the ball to weave their magic - a factor not helped by the number of first choice players they had out either injured or suspended. I'm really not sure it would have mattered who donned Southampton shirts tonight because virtually their entire team was second best tonight. Following the Forest win that six goals without reply and that will lift confidence considerably. Furthermore we now know we have the energy to compete with anyone in the Championship and doing so further up the field will enable us to continue posing the threat we showed for most of today - even when we finally shut the game up. Terrific night after an equally unforgettable days golf. Altogether a day to remember.
Ultra Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Went on Fox Travel for the first time since Cardiff in the playoff semi. Many thanks to Top & Co for arranging all the freebies... The performance on the park was the best on the road by a City side for some time. Where has this side been for most of the season? Mills was immense at his former stamping ground, took his goal well and finally looks like he may justify his heavy price tag. Nugent was fired up as well (sometimes too much so) and could have easily been going home with a match-ball to show for his efforts. However all members of the side, including the two debutants, deserve praise for their performance. For the second game running Wellens and Danns bossed the midfield and were utterly transformed from the shambolic, inept duo witnessed against Barnsley (and on too many previous occasions). With King injured and Abe departed, the pressure was on them to deliver, but look how they have responded! Whatever Pearson did to inspire this improvement certainly seems to have done the trick. It should also be noted that the home side were missing key players, including Chaplow, Lallana and Lambert, but even a full-strength line-up would have struggled to compete with a City side showing a hunger, enthusiasm and collective urgency not always evident in recent times. For the most part, the 600 travelling Foxes who made it to St Mary's also did the club proud, outsinging a strangely subdued home contingent throughout. The only blemishes were some arrogant and gratuitous baiting of absent colleagues (I'm glad to see that's already been slated on here.. ) and a foolish and grossly ignorant ditty in anticipation of our next away game (as if Brighton is the ONLY place where gay people live..) Overall, though, this was a night memorable for all the right reasons. Let's hope this level of performance can be maintained on a more regular basis, including on Saturday against Swindon.
Guy Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Not really read any of the previous posts in this thread as I've just got onto the site but wow, what a transformation from the dire stuff I witnessed when we were at home over Christmas against Ipswich and Pompey! We also looked like we were the team in 2nd spot tonight, not the Saints - although that is a hallmark of how this season has been in the Championship between teams for the most part in an "anybody can beat anybody" sense. Again though it underlined my pre-match prediction in that we seem to play well against the top of the table sides yet we falter against the likes of Barnsley, Doncaster, Bristol City and only scrape draws with the likes of teams in the lower half of the table also. Bizarre, there must be some psychology in the mix somewhere! While not wanting to make any predictions of over optimism on the back of this excellent win tonight (and bearing in mind the next cup match is a potential banana skin against Swindon - but more importantly perhaps, with it being played on a day that we haven't won on since October 1st v the Sheep! - namely a Saturday). nevertheless we deserve our feel good factor optimism to last us until at least the next league game against M'Boro, regardless of what happens in the cup this weekend coming!

Jordan Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Another sensational performance by City--and I echo everyone's praise for the midfield. City would never have this much possession if they weren't playing so well off the ball, so I've got to give Pearson and the coaches credit for helping organize the team. They're controlling the ball and controlling space, too. I'm very much impressed with how hard Leicester worked to get the ball back when they lost possession. We don't have the greatest tacklers in the midfield, but City's midfield have made sure to close down the opposition quickly and they're really getting stuck in to try to win the ball. And the partnership of Beckford and Nugent have now put in two solid shifts in a row, doing plenty of work with and without the ball. This team's attitude has changed for the better recently. Neil Danns completely bossed the midfield tonight. He's everywhere. And the energy he brings to the midfield is letting Wellens sit back and make all the tidy passes the team needs when they need to regroup their attack or slow down the game a little. I should also give credit to Lloyd Dyer. Yes, he has his faults: He's definitely not a technically gifted player (clearly one-footed) and he's certainly not a physical player. But to borrow a baseball adage, "Speed shows up to the ballpark every night." He's one of the fastest players in the Championship and there are very few defenders that can cope with his pace. Even if Leicester are struggling to hold the ball or cannot find a good place to pass it, there's almost always the option of sending the ball to the left wing and seeing if Dyer can make a play. Not only that, but he's got plenty of stamina and is willing to run up and down the wing all game. He tracked back to win back the ball several times and he's also been a key reason why Leicester have been successful with a high-pressure approach. Sometimes we have been (and will be) frustrated when Dyer gets the ball in a dangerous spot but loses control, makes a terrible pass or misses a sitter. But having Dyer out there creates more net scoring opportunities for Leicester, and they will score more goals with him in the lineup than without him as a result. I'm more than happy with the way Mills and St. Ledger are playing, but my only worry is that they're still just not fast enough to keep up with the more pacy forwards in the league (David Connolly wasn't going to beat them to any balls tonight). Thankfully, they're settling down together and putting themselves in good enough position to keep attacks at bay. Their passing is good too--I don't mind some of Mills' long balls because our players are willing to go up and win those (nice pass to Nugent before the 1st goal, too). And was that not a great 2nd goal by them? St. Ledger fvcking broke Aaron Martin's ankles with that move! Nugent's goal was also right off the top shelf--a goal worthy of City's performance tonight. Yes, Southampton were without some of the best players in the league, but City smelled blood and attacked. Not many teams have had a good chance to take 3 points at St. Mary's but Leicester made damn sure they took advantage of a weakened Southampton team.
