Southampton (A) Post-Match Thread

Southampton fans are absolutely gutted about this, they're talking about a mid table finish, Adkins always making excuses and only having 3 or 4 good players. I think they'll at least get playoffs which is a great achievement after getting promoted from league 1 (like it was for us) The mentality of a football fan is a strange thing!

This will be my seventh City v Southampton game at the St. Mary's and I haven't seen us score yet!

2003/2004 D 0-0

2005/2006 L 0-2

2005/2006 L 0-1 (FA Cup)

2006/2007 L 0-2

2007/2008 L 0-2 (FA Cup)

2007/2008 L 0-1

FFS City at least give me a goal to cheer about tonight.

Thank you LCFC

Southampton fans appear to have come dressed as red seats tonight!

I thought we were magnificent last night, totally in control and everyone played their part. 1st half although we had more chances than the 2nd, I thought we were quite wasteful and there were some players not pulling their weight such as Danns, Wellens and Dyer. In the 2nd half, however they were all bang on. Wellens was superb as the game wore on, he was breaking forward and his retention of the ball and use of it was as good as he's ever shown. I'm happy to praise him when he deserves it.

Nugent's finish was sublime, as per usual he can be relied upon in big matches. I've never known one of our players score as many as him against clubs that 'mean' something to him, Burnley, Pompey twice and now Southampton. It's a great trait to have. Beckford and Nuge are slowly starting to get an understanding together and the thing that impressed me about Jermaine last night was his link up play. He was providing the likes of Nugent, Dyer and Danns with some excellent passes.

Matt Mills was a monster, a goal an assist and one of the best reactionary blocks when Da Prado was about to pull the trigger and inevitably score. SSL and him look at ease togetehr in the last 2 games and I hope it's a partnership that stays together. SSL was a class apart again, calm on the ball, never giving it away and starting our build up's. His assist was hilarious, completely mugged them.

What a debut for Drinkwater. He's like Cleverley but his passing seems more precise and he's very strong on the ball. I am massively impressed.

Game on mutha fookas.

Bit concerned for our lack of players for Saturday though, Konchesky banned? Gally injured? Drinkwater cup tied? Moore cup tied? Delfouneso cup tied? A distinct lack of midfielders.

Not the Pompey fan that with us at the back by any chance?

No - he was one of the ones the City fans were singing to..

If you're watching on the telly you're a c*** lol

I love the pictures of Nugents hands round the refs face and him encouraging us to raise our voices on the OS. Has anyone got any pictures / videos of us fans at the back? Would love to see some. I have one of the last few minutes including full time. I'll try to upload it for people at some point soon.

Yay another win to place in my below sig :D.

Fookin Hell Ric, I don't think you've ever been this positive??

And did I notice you commending Wellens on the transfers thread?

Are you pissed?

What a fvcking night.

Absolutely dominated the team who would've been top had it kicked off at the normal time.

Not a single player to fault, thought the fans sang some.. interesting stuff, if you like, but fair play, we were vocal.

What a great decision I made going in the end, fvcking over the moon.

I don't think our track record was particularly great at the Dell either!

Fantastic night last night, loved every minute of it, thought all aspects of our play was brilliant, sean stledger dominated at thw back must of won about a dozen stonking headers from goal kicks, looks like he's taking his chance with bamba away. I'd written him off if i'm honest, thought he'd go this window, but completley changed my opinion of him.

Well done boys, just need to win our remaining games and we're up ;)

Re St Ledger, it just shows you what getting a run of any description in the team can do to improve a player, when you're in and out of the team on a permanent basis like SSL was then it must be very unsettling re knowing how to prepare yourself in training and such like.....not to mention how it affects your confidence levels and such like. This is the sort of team performance that we should've been seeing a heck of a lot more of than we have done already this season and let us hope it is a sign oif things to come between now and May!

Little bit disappointed with the marking from two set-pieces in the second half, nearly brought them back into the game needlessly.

But it's only a minor point :)

Here's the goals for those that missed them.

Edit:Not sure how to embed the video so link will have to do ;)

Normally does it automatically I think you have too much crap in your link it can't pick it up as a youtube vid

The link I used is just http:// www*youtube*com/watch?v=65PMSGL9mpw but with . instead of * I only put in the star so you can see it otherwise clever old FT embeds it.

Basingstoke Fox, I've just looked at the data in your signature. Please, please STOP going to games. Thanks.

Haha, I call it how I see it. Even though I think Wellens isn't good enough for us to make a serious promotion push, he did well 2nd half, very well infact and deserves to be ackowledged. :)
