The Guvnor Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Look a much better unit IMO ,with Bamba and King out.St Ledger for what ever reason seems to be playing extremely well, and the back four look more solid.Danns playing a central role is also responsible in showing signs of a more balanced team IMO. Bamba is a good player but should he expect to resume his place in the back four,I don't think so,thoughts?
Finnegan Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Both have played very well for us historically but it's a squad game and to be a part of that you have to be willing to sit out and be pleased to see the team playing well if you're not getting selected because everything's working. Form will drop, St. Ledger or Mills will have a poor run or an injury and Bamba will get chances again. For now I wouldn't change things, nobody has a divine right to play.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Just don't think I could bring myself to leave Sol out. I love watching him play so much! One of the million reasons I'll never be a football manager I suppose

Besides, who's not to say that SSL isn't playing his heart out to attract managers to come and buy him. All the players we currently have, even those we have gotten rid of recently, are more than capable of playing well at this level - it's just a case of both getting the best out of them and recognising the inevitable dips in form so that you can rota the squad accordingly.
dpjfox Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Bamba and King may look better in a team playing with confidence, having said that minimal team changes are needed/requiredat the moment
Corky Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 We all know Wellens and King can't play together, so Wellens is improving through not having King next to him. It would be the same vice versa. Bamba has played well this season but shouldn't walk straight back in the team, unless one of St Ledger and Mills is underperforming/ Injured.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 What if 'the biggun' keeps a load of clean sheets and come back holding the ACON? That would surely have to stand up as reliable form
AdamN Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Mills, St Ledger and Bamba have all shown themselves to be quality centre backs, and I see no reason why any of them shouldn't have a part to play in the future. Let's not forget that Bamba was one of the best players on the pitch in the last match he played (Palace). King, before getting injured, was currently on a bad run of form, but we know what a useful asset he can be. Wellens was rightfully being criticised for his performances not too long ago, but now he's bucked his ideas up a bit and is playing well again. Who's to say that King can't do exactly the same when he returns? So while they shouldn't just walk back into the team when they return (unless we're playing poorly at that point), I still think they'll continue to be big players for us.
fox ache Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Bamba could play as a defensive midfielder i.e Patrick Viera,Roy Keane position......He`s definitley the hardman player who could hold up the ball
Guest BlueBrett Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 why would a defensive midfielder want to hold up the ball? Plus Danns is has been quality in that position lately
Storming Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Agree with this Bamba could slot into a midfield roll quite easily he do'es for Ivory Coast dont he ?
Guest MattP Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 What if 'the biggun' keeps a load of clean sheets and come back holding the ACON? That would surely have to stand up as reliable form Judging by the standard of football I've seen so far in the ACON it's lower than the championship unless its Ghana or the IC. St Ledge and Mills look a great partnership at the minute, you can Mills looks far better with a partner that is always concentrating on what position he is in. Most people realised a long time ago unless King scores it can be like playing with ten men.

King for me has been poor this season, we need physically strong creative midfielders no room for players who are mostly ineffective, even if they do score occasionally. Bamba is exciting to watch when he goes on a mazy run however for me is too much of a maverick, not conducive with a cohesive back four.Mills and SSL look a far better partnership.
champions 08/09 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 i would agree with bamba playing defensive midfeilder especially away from home
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I think Bamba will find it hard to get back in the starting 11
Fox92 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I prefer St Ledger over any of the other centre halfs, including Bamba. Yesterday, I liked the look of our midfield - Drinkwater is the right type of player for Wellens, and Wellens put in a good performance once Danny came on. Nobody has a right to start, and if we keep playing like this, I cannot see why Pearson wants to put King and Bamba back in unless it is needed (eg, injury, red card).
JohnnyB Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 We all know Wellens and King can't play together, so Wellens is improving through not having King next to him. It would be the same vice versa. Bamba has played well this season but shouldn't walk straight back in the team, unless one of St Ledger and Mills is underperforming/ Injured. I agree that Bamba shouldn't walk straight back into the team if Mills and St.Ledger are still playing well, but I'm not so sure about King and Wellens not being able to play together. King made 48 appearances last season (scoring 16 goals in the process) and Wellens also made 48 appearances (scoring 4) which means they must have played together in pretty much every game. A goals tally of 20 between two midfielders is a pretty decent return as well.
Mitch14 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I personally don't like Bamba's style and therefore prefer SSL but i can see Bamba is an asset to us. On King/Wellens, Drinkwater looked extremely good right last night in a position which is clearly uncomfortable to him, could see him providing a serious challenge to Wellens for his spot.
thybluefox Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 It'll be criminal if either of these 2 (especially Bamba) walks straight back into the first 11 when they're back tbh.
sharpie Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 bamba in for mills, mills played well last 2 games but apart from that has been poor.
sdb Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Don't change a winning side. Bamba will have to wait his turn.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 bamba in for mills, mills played well last 2 games but apart from that has been poor. Whatever drugs you're on, please get me some
Saxondale Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I don't think he can really change any aspect of the current team as long as they keep playing as they have done in the last two. SSL deserves to keep his place so Bamba will just have to wait his turn. As for King, well, he's going to have to work bloody hard to get back near the starting 11 given his most recent form. Especially as he has new competition in the form of Drinkwater.
FoxTrott Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Bamba has had a terrific season. However poor we were at the start of the season, you really cannot blame Bamba. He's been pretty much faultless, I'd be the first to say if he had because his driving forward worries me as much as anyone, but he really does not deserve any stick. King has been anonymous for a while now. The problem I have with King was that he was anonymous in much play last season as well, but he was scoring goals - which he's not anymore.
