Collymore Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I think we should have a collection and send Stringer on a course so he can learn how to commentate. I watched the game while listening to him and and Young and I can't believe the amount of action they miss while they're joking with each other or discussing the ref or something that can wait. You only can realise how poor it is when you're watching the game as well. If you ever hear the crowd cheering at something when their chatting and wondering why they're not mentioning it, it is is because they don't mention 75% of the game! There was a good 5 minutes of the game today where tackles were flying in right and left and centre, we were battling like heroes, passed it with real purpose with nice crisp accurate passing and we worked it cleverly into Nugent, Stringer and Young was burping out loads of crap (like usual) and ends with "..sorry to interrupt Alan, Nugent goes close..... Go on Alan" and this happens over and over again! I challenge anyone to watch and listen it's shocking! Stringer does have qualities though and can be very descriptive when he's concentrating, he just loses focus so much.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I've reached the same conclusion, it's very poor and if like me, you pay for the commentary via the foxes player it really is unprofessional and should be addressed.
foxfanazer Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 And he said "it's villa 2 qpr 2, Bruno n'zogbia with the equaliser there" knowledge!
Fox1651 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Alan Young is shocking, listened to some of the first half on the radio whilst on the way home from work and although i loved Youngy as a player, he is utter tosh at commentating
Guest BlueBrett Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I watched and listened and I enjoyed the commentary. In fact I enjoy it every time I listen to them.

OLD norfox Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I watched and listened and I enjoyed the commentary. In fact I enjoy it every time I listen to them. Agree!!! Its passion
Collymore Posted 1 February 2012 Author Posted 1 February 2012 Oh so it's another one of these threads I'm not blaming Young, in fact I don't mind the bloke. It's just lack of training on Stringer's part IMO

Puts it into perspective when you listen to 5 live.
AmyLGK Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Whilst I agree to everything the starter of this thread has said, I do also enjoy Stringers brand of (uh hum) unbiased commentary! Also - if you ever listen to the other local commentators you'll realise just how lucky we are to have him. But yes we do miss half the game (I was also watching whilst listening tonight).
Guest BlueBrett Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 There's a difference between enjoying something and hearing something descriptive. Would you rather they just divided the pitch into a numbered grid and relayed to the listeners which area it was in and with which player? The fact they care and want to have their say makes it for me but I don't think you can really say that they don't paint a fairly realistic picture of what is going on at the KP and not just on the pitch.

It's just lack of training on Stringer's part IMO You went to the game and listened to it at the same time? Don't think you're in a position to criticise others! Let's go back to square one. Let's go

Corky Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Having praised 5 Live for their excellent coverage of our match at Crystal Palace, I must say I was disappointed with their output tonight. Several periods of just inane rambling about things not affecting our game, with no mention of the play on the pitch, so we had no clue as to where the ball was or who had it. So RL aren't the only ones with critics tonight.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Several periods of just inane rambling about things not affecting our game, with no mention of the play on the pitch, so we had no clue as to where the ball was or who had it. 90% of the commentary I've heard on 5 live is like that.
Soar Fox Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I was at work tonight so couldn't get to the game. But I listened to it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They might waffle on about something unimportant but they sounded passionate and actually cared. Also when the fourth official held up No 8 for No 8 young sounded like he was ready to give up.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Stringer is okay, not sure about Alan Young?
Gold Coast Fox Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I personally love the commentary from stringer a youngy, there much better than some of the boring commentator you get.

They can care and have their say either in the football forum/phone in or half time/post match. Football commentary should be descriptive and informative of what is taking place on the pitch moment to moment so we can build an image up of the football game.
breadandcheesebrother Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Stringer and Young are excellent. Having mainly listened to the passive borefest of 5live this evening, I'm glad that Stringer and his sweaty bum-chum are there to add a different perspective and some much needed humour to proceedings. Stringer's post-match interviews with pearson are often more entertaining than the game itself, and tonight's was a classic of the genre. Having endured the abject misery of Barber (a derby fan, who you'll recall appeared to relish the day our nil nil draw with stoke sent us to league one), Stringer's hyperactive enthusiasm for the team and his research into the minutiae of club business and transfer links makes him unique among commentators and pundits covering Leicester City. Young, as an outspoken ex-player, is the perfect foil. Someone else has already pointed out how much better than the other local radio commentators these two are. More seriously, these are people's jobs we're talking about. They're not well-paid, professionally mobile footballers, and there can't be too many broadcasting jobs to go around if they lose their ones, so let's bear that in mind. (For what it's worth, I don't know either of them nor do I have any interest. Just expressing an opinion)
Lambert09 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 This seems like an appropriate place to ask- In stringers interview with Pearson he said he was going to ask the referee for an interview.....I was just wondering if it actually happened? I imagine he had already run away as fast as he could.

I imagine he had already run away as fast as he could. Stringer asked him if he could have an interview on-air, and he declined. He then asked him to justify his decisions off-air and the Referee ignored him.
