Why? Cos you can't be arsed to learn them?

There may be a reason you don't hear the 'LCFC song' (aka The Ring of Fire) in that the chant is brainless, moronic and boring in itself, and as Kitchandro rightly said its used when the games as boring as hell.

Its one of the most popular and loudest due to the simplicity of the fans singing it, not the simplicity of the song

This

Because they don't catch on. What are you doing to do, put a sheet with the lyrics on under each seat and expect people to memorise them?

So what's your problem with it? People sing it because it's simple, therefore it's one of the loudest and most popular. Not rocket science.

Yes, memorise them. Terrace anthems and all the songs people remember as favourites are the ones with more words and ones and that are more unique. If Iwan Roberts played for us now he'd get "Duh, duh duh duh duh der der derrrr, Iw-an Ro-berts or something equally lame.

In the days when we made an effort and used our brains, he got Iwan is a Welshman.

You don't need song sheets, you use a thing called your memory and your imagination and go for it. I reckon its the Playstation/youtube generation not having to think for themselves.

Well said.

There always seems to be a lot of complaining from the older fans but then they always give it the 'I'm too old for that now' or 'I can't be bothered in that soulless bowl so I sit in the West Stand and judge'.

No complaining from me. I recently hit 60, and was a 'koppite' for many a year back in the 60's, Me and 18 yo son always get tickets as close to L1 as possible - usually J3 - stand throughout the match, and join in all the singing. My attempts to get songs going about 'The Doog' usually fall on deaf ears though! Never to old to sing, and I reckon We Love You could be the one that brings the next generation through.

Yes memorise them like you have to do to the latest JLS song.

dunno whats up with my PC, but hopefully the link works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fields_of_Anfield_Road Sung by Liverpool fans every game without fail. I don't like it due to its roots, but educate yourself. Iancognito is bang on when on about Iwan Roberts as his example. Its down to ignorance of the younger fans that eventually all the old songs will no longer exist. songs such as WYS, Bring on the Sunderland, the Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly song, they'll all be forgotten.(and these songs aren't even all that old) And for what? A generic couple of songs sung by braindeads basically

A perfect example this. No doubt you know the Beckford song that we do.

Here's Liverpools version of it;

His name is Luis Suarez and he wears the famous Red

I just can’t get enough, I just can’t get enough

When he scores a volley or gets one with his head

I just can’t get enough, I just can’t get enough

He scores a goal and The Kop go wild

… and I just can’t seem to get enough… SUAREZ

Do-do-do-do-do-do-do

Do-do-do-do-do-do-do

Do-do-do-do-do-do-do”

I have to make it clear that I hate Liverpool before anyone suggests otherwise. Scummy club.

Newcastle have just come up with another today

Demba 1, Demba 2

We've got more Dembas than you

With a nick nack paddywack both can score a goal

Gerodie boys from Senegal

I dread to think what chant we'd give them

Thanks a lot. So were we the loudest side to visit the AMEX? And good luck with the rest of your season!

Sorry... Loudest so far has been Leeds....

That Leicester, Leicester (repeat) was quite loud, but to be honest it was more the constant singing when Mattock came on that worked best. Granted you didn't have much else to sing about, but man you gave him a hard time!!!

And I know you won't like me saying it, but I wouldn't keep the "We love you"/St Pauli chant......

Never known as much divide in a support as much as ours, which is obvious as I support us.

This song seemed to do the trick and the atmosphere was a great one for the last 15, however I can just see us overkilling it and people getting bored, but I hope I'm wrong.

There's too much mentality that people will laugh if you try something different, it's clear as daylight, would this still get sung if the Fosse Boys started it off? Would this get sung if Palace didn't? I like the song itself but can definitely see both sides of the argument.

Unfortunately a vast majority of sides are losing originality in songs, and all singing the same, we're not the only ones with this problem but it doesn't bother me, and as Stu correctly said, just look at Liverpool and Newcastle's songs for their players, it shits all over anything we've come out with in the last 10 years.

Fair play to your dad there, can't fault him.

I'm 48 and sing and jump about a lot, I do get concerned that other fans think I'm cringeworthy though, I lose a lot of sleep at night worrying about it.

Football is 90 minutes long it's not long enough to be self conscience :D Just enjoy and support the team no matter what age mate. I dread to think what a PAP would think of the way i support but i don't care because i leave the ground knowing ive gone through the ups and downs of the game and lived it for another 90 and survived ;) Football is cringe and i love it can't wait till Leeds away il be wearing my 1997 away kit full shorts n socks and a blue and white jesters hat and of course the blue and white scarf :scarf:

Sorry to generalise with the age thing but it is something I've heard a lot on here. I'm well aware it's not every older fan but there's certainly an attitude from some that they love complaining about modern football yet don't seem to want to do their bit to help. Typical British mentality of enjoying a moan whilst having no intention of actively changing things.

Well that's what British people do, complain about something but if they can't be bothered or it's too difficult they're not willing to help the situation they moan about

Half a dozen lads tried to get WLY started in the Cup against Palace in 08/09 when no-one else in the country sang it. None of our fans wanted to know - in fact quite a few were giving it "What the ****ing hell is that?" back at them. Now 80% of Football League clubs sing it and it's suddenly acceptable?

Hope it dies a death. We were all born original so why should we die a copy?

Laughing stock.

You tried to get it going and people turned their back on it.

People got it going and now you're turning your back on it.

Probably all I have to say on the matter...

was in L1 from the start and a few old boys did go in there and sing some of the old songs.

Remember a great game against Man u where the leicester fans tried to pull up the shutters in the concourse at half time to get at the cockney man u scum.

Moved out when the drum came in. I know some of you luv it, but there is a sizeable amount who hate it and think that it makes us sound predictable with basic chants and few original songs. A few young lads hero worship him and so I suppose he is here to stay, but PUT HIM IN THE KOP.

Now in the family end with my kids at the back near the away fans. We try our bit, works on some games if tyhere is a sizeable away support.

Just an opinion
