Libertine Dream Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 Maybe I know Col but at least ill have kept my dignity and self respect by not joining in when the novelty has worn off. No wonder fans think its the best thing since sliced bread when they know no better. lcfcstu, you have not kept any dignity or self respect because in this very thread you have said you'd consider renewing and you'd rather support Derby than listen to this every game. What you have done is made yourself look stupid and made it apparent your living in the past. We love you, we love you, we love you, and everywhere we'll follow, we'll follow, we'll follow, cuz we support the Leicester , the Leicester , the Leicester, and that's the way we like it, we like it , we like it , Ohhhhhhwhoooooo, ohhhhhhhwhoooooo! It's actually, 'and where you play we follow'

jonthefox Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 Who invented the chant? Google tells me it's either St Pauli, Celtic or Crystal Palace I saw a st pauli fan on saturday. I wonder what he made of it?.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 lcfcstu, you have not kept any dignity or self respect because in this very thread you have said you'd consider renewing and you'd rather support Derby than listen to this every game. What you have done is made yourself look stupid and made it apparent your living in the past. It's actually, 'and where you play we follow' Clearly there would be other circumstances regarding renewing, but this could be the proverbial straw. Why thats losing self respect I'm not sure. And ok I was exaggerating with the Derby comment. I'm 25. I barely remember the pens in filbert st. I'm not much older than the majority of the posters on here arguing against me. The difference is that I refuse to sing a song that's been copied from 20 other clubs. Getting their chants by watching soccer am. As said much earlier, its not even like we've copied the song relatively early in its life as a chant. We've jumped on a bandwwagon 18 months later than all the other clubs doing it. Isn't that embarassing?

Nearly all the songs you said you preferred were from the past and where sung by or copied from other clubs, i think you have an unrealistic, fairy tale view of the past.

No, what is embarrasing is a completely quiet football ground because we won't sing songs that create noise because they're not original enough. All football chants are copied and I fail to see what songs, apart from WYS, we have that are original.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 If people are prepared to learn the words to a new song and not the old ones perhaps they just don't like or feel any attachment like you to the old ones. I know. And that's my point. It's sad. Generic stadium similar to several others in our league, and generic chants started by generic fans. It's not just our club I know. It's all making a massive step towards the sanitisation of fans up and down the country and that's a massive shame
iancognito Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 We've jumped on a bandwwagon 18 months later than all the other clubs doing it. Isn't that embarassing? Yes. But ten times less embarrassing than watching football in silence and being outsung by half the tinpot teams that come here. I haven't even been at the ground yet when we've sung it but the missus keeps telling me to stop whistling and humming the bloody tune. Honestly, stu, I understand totally where you're coming from but this really is a case of if you can't beat them, join them, for me. "We love you, we love you, we love you......."

It's not just our club I know. It's all making a massive step towards the sanitisation of fans up and down the country and that's a massive shame But there always was generic chants, in fact what made them specifically associated with a club was the club that sang it the most and continued to sing it after everyone else stopped as what happened with YNWA. The "you're shit" stuff we sing when a goalkeeper takes a goal kick was once sung by virtually every club in the FL now we're the only ones doing it, certainly in the championship. You're right about the sanitisation of football and I don't disagree but you need to direct your anger for that towards the authorities and the clubs where that has been forced on fans, but our fans singing this song is not sanitisation it's spontaneous adoption by our fans, no one's forcing them to sing it or to comply with some universal dictate. I frankly do not see any difference to our fans singing this than to so many that songs we've adopted since I've been going which is since the early sixties, sure we've had some original stuff but this song doesn't in itself stop that happening in the future in fact as I've said previously it may get the fans back into enjoying singing and encourage them to join in new and old songs in the future.

I'd agree with that in a lot of cases where the grey, featureless bowl stadiums do all the family-orientated pre-match garbage but this was started in this country by a group of Palace fans, nothing corporate about it. Look at the 90s where the Go West tune was copied by every club. The Matty Fryatt chant was used for Andy Johnson and countless others. Man United had the "Plays on the left, plays on the right" thing for Ronaldo and that got used by others. If people come up with a good 'un it'll be copied by everyone. It'd be great if the Poznan or We Love You was ours but they're not but they do make the day a bit more bearable!

Its different for you though being older. In your time you've probably seen (well you're implying) many songs copied by our fans throughout the years. Songs which I (not regard as our own, I know they're not) but they've always been sung in my time and although I know several clubs have similar versions, I've always associated them with Leicester. This is different. And I feel so strongly because its a dreadful song. Now I've seen some of the comments by the players and fans, and saw the reaction against Boro and Cardiff recently. So I can't say not having an atmosphere has no affect. But I've always thought the chants should reflect whats happening on the pitch at a certain time. If we're 4-0 up at home to Derby, yeh bring that chant on. Swing your scarves round your heads like nutters. If we're 1-0 down with 80 mins to go though, surely it'd be more fitting for the same amount of fans singing 'we love you' to chant 'Come On Leicester' or 'Attack attack' At the end of the game, rather than doing this whats wrong 'oh leicester we love you'? Leaving myself open to much ridicule there I know, but there you go, thats what forums are for

Leaving myself open to much ridicule there I know, but there you go, thats what forums are for Fans were chanting come on Leicester around me before we scored as well as later in the game. This song doesn't stop other songs being sung in fact, and sorry to labour the point but it's much more likely to get people who didn't sing before but now sing we love you to join in the more traditional songs. I believe the club are indirectly responsible for this song taking off due to their distribution of scarves to the fans, it's the flag waving that makes this popular and helps people that were perhaps not comfortable with singing able to join in. Oh and the scarf waving is not original or continental either as it was extremely popular with all British clubs in the late 60s/early 70s in the 'Mod' era but eventually died away presumably because people became to believe it was a bit naff. As they say there's nowt much original in the world.

Absolutely right, and i well remember Man United fans doing the scarf twirling at Filbert Street on mass, to the ke sara sara wembley song on the last day of the 1975/76 season, the week before their FA Cup Final with Southampton.

LCFC FOX Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 Next home game I'm going to record this from the view in the Family stand. Will be good to see how L1 looks from another part of the ground. I have a season ticket in L1 and always get involved. But going with the family so sitting in the family stand against Coventry.
Gold Coast Fox Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 No chance! I can't bring myself to do it. We're an English team for a start, not a continental one With many foreign supporters, the English leagues can learn a lot from foreign leagues and vice versa.. e.g safe standing and atmosphere
Matt Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 A couple of videos have appeared on YouTube today
acooling08 Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 I can't wait for Peterborough away. It's all terraced in the away end so if we take a decent following then this will look awesome. It's end of March time but even if it's warm I'm taking a scarf!!
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 13 February 2012 Posted 13 February 2012 Imagine the whole standing end at London Road filled with Leicester fans singing 'we love you' and with scarves flying around in the air. Would be mental!
