Captain... Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Strauss did something similar. We put Test cricket above other forms of the game, as it should be. But Strauss wasn't one of the best limited overs cricketers at the time, and has always been a better test player. Reading the article it sounds like he wanted to pick and choose his tournaments, like the IPL and the World Cup, but have a break and not play some of the meaningless ODIs coming up.
marko Posted 9 June 2012 Posted 9 June 2012 Bell's having a shocker at 3rd slip - shelled two easy catches.
Guest MattP Posted 9 June 2012 Posted 9 June 2012 Bell's having a shocker at 3rd slip - shelled two easy catches. Shows not only how good a bowler Anderson is but how much we miss him there as well.
Voll Blau Posted 9 June 2012 Posted 9 June 2012 Might have to pull out the big guns tomorrow with the bat if we want to get a result out of this! Can see us bowling West Indies out in less than a day but we're going to need a lead of at least 250+ to do it.
marko Posted 10 June 2012 Posted 10 June 2012 I cannot believe Tino Best is on the verge of a Test match century. Shame Ramdin spoilt his effort a bit with that stupid note... it's just not cricket!
marko Posted 10 June 2012 Posted 10 June 2012 Tino got 95, out trying to hit a six. He should have remembered Flintoff's advice from a few years back - "Mind the windows, Tino"
Corky Posted 10 June 2012 Posted 10 June 2012 He should have remembered Flintoff's advice from a few years back - "Mind the windows, Tino" At least now he won't remembered for only that.
Captain... Posted 19 July 2012 Posted 19 July 2012 Interesting to see how Philander goes. Looking quite tidy at the mo, taken the new ball ahead of Steyn, got them playing and missing at a few already. Just said he was the fastest man ever to take 50 wickets, in terms of deliveries, just over 1200 deliveries, his stats are awesome. 7 matches 51 wickets 6 5WI 2 10WM
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 19 July 2012 Posted 19 July 2012 Seen him in him in about 5 of his test very good bowler pace and movement hard to play against with the new ball. Got Trott prouding around a bit. Here comes Steyn
Captain... Posted 19 July 2012 Posted 19 July 2012 Ton up for cookie, how long before he makes the most centuries of any Englishman, he only has 2 more to go (unless Strauss or KP get ahead of him). Now we just need KP to put his foot down and take the game away from them.
purpleronnie Posted 19 July 2012 Posted 19 July 2012 jeez...got to be careful now not to lose anymore,

He's just frighteningly good, I can't imagine how many runs his career will end with. 6,000+ already at a average of just short of 50 and he's 27... Very good days play, important to bowl last at the Oval as well, for all the talk of the huge South African pace attack just as I thought we handled it with ease. If we could learn to play Amjal in the UAE we'd be pretty much unbeatable as a test cricket team at this point in time. The Times predicted this morning that Philander has been seriously over rated a by his stats and that looks the case.

Still young (for a batsmen) and just keeps making the runs. Which is annoying as i backed Clarke to make the most calendar year. Disagree about Philander, bowled very well with the new ball had the batsmen propping on the crease and had the outswingers to Trott working a treat. In fairness i didn't see him bowl for the rest of the innings. But saying that i saw him against us, Sri Lanka and away in New Zealand but he has serious talent. With no disrespect to the Kiwis this is his first proper away series and bowling to likes of Cook, Trott, Strauss and it pains me to say this Bell isn't easy in England.

There wasn't much in the pitch for any of the bowlers, it is Ironic that the weak link in the pace attack took the most wickets, Vernon looked decent, but I don't understand why he opened the bowling ahead of Steyn, bizarre decision from Smith a fiery opening salvo from the best bowler in the world especially after the loss of Strauss could have got them another quick breakthrough and put pressure on the batsmen, but I get the impression that Philander will take most of his wickets when batsmen are chasing the game and looking to score, Cook and Trott have the patience to see him out and pick off the bad balls.

Whilst Smith is an arrogant big headed tosser, i think it would of been more Gary Kirsten and the bowling coach Allan Donalds decsions.

Never understood why so many Aussies hate Bell?! In glad he's finally turned into what his natural talent said he should be, he's only 30 as well, another who he keeps to form could end with a test match average of 50.
marko Posted 20 July 2012 Posted 20 July 2012 Oh dear, two cheap wickets falling early. We need to put a decent partnership together now.
Captain... Posted 20 July 2012 Posted 20 July 2012 That was awful from Bopara, really thought this series could be the making of him as a test player, turns out not, oh well, Bopara out Finn in, lets have a 5 man attack, Prior is good enough to bat at 6, Bresnan, Broad and Swann are all decent with the bat, lets go on the attack.
