Guest Col city fan Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 Richie Wellens ....age 31 .........Scrapheap ......legs have gone.........fat and unfit ........ Shaun Derry .....aged 34 !! Derry would have been great a couple of seasons ago... We now need to be looking for younger, hungrier players who will only get better...like Drinky IMO
Happy Fox Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 You didn't see the Forest replay either then? No I went to to the Replay, but Forest were abdominally shit that night, any team could have scored at least 3 goals past them take nothing away from our victory and the performance of Wellens and Danns that night. I was mainly referring to league games where the inconsistency in performances from the midfield is never going to get us promoted. Now I don't have all the answers but it is quite clear to me that the midfielders we have barring our latest additions in Marshall and Drinkwater, the rest I would deem not worthy for the starting 11 that wants to challenge for promotion.
Simo86 Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 I like the look of JET as you say not the finished article but the boy certainly has talent and could be groomed in that defensive midfield role. If not JET than Shaun Derry is the man we should get. The only problem with JET is that he hasn't got a position, he seems to get played all over place. Like you say he could be groomed in the defensive midfield role, but who's to say that is his best position. It's quite a toughie really
lcfcbaby Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 Wellens looked pretty sharp in training and hit the net a few times! If he could replicate that in matches then we wouldn't be down his throat the whole time. This whole idea of not playing Marshall becUse be has no championship experience is silly. Peltier had no championship experience before Leicester and he's being played regularly. Marshall will have his chance of Saturday if Pearson picks his team right and it will be up to him to prove he's capable!

lcfcbaby Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 The problem is he needs to take his chances when he has them because training yesterday just proved what a good shot he actually has on him!

Simo86 Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 The problem is he needs to take his chances when he has them because training yesterday just proved what a good shot he actually has on him! 9 times out of 10 in a competitive match Wellens' shots will hit row Z, he knows this, which is why he doesn't shoot that often.

If that's the case, how the bleeding hell are you ever supposed to get any? In-fact to add to that, I feel we should be giving others more experience this season, purely to get them more ready for next season.
lcfcbaby Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 That I can't argue with! It's just frustrating when you see it work in training but not in matches!

Shall we just start throwing 18 year olds into the starting XI left, right and centre? Look at someone like Tom Cleverley at United, he was loaned out for 3 seasons to get him ready for the 1st team. No one has said not to give Marshall a go, just that the reason NP might not be chucking him straight in is because he wants to ease the lad into the starting XI. These others you're talking about will only be given more experience if they are good enough, remember we have other squad members to be kept happy. Putting an academy player on the bench in front of a more senior player could have bad effects on the squad as a whole. I'm all for giving youth a go, but only if they are good enough.
Guest shearfox Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 Maybe Sol Bamba should play in the middle...
Guest nathan. Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 Poor Danny is he defo out for the rest of the season then

Cropwellfox Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 More and more really shit luck with injuries to attacking players this season - With the numbers of fixtures coming up in march we look very very short in midfield and up front.

But Cleverley was targetting a place in the top team of the Prem, not quite the same pressure or level as being pitched into a mid-Champ team with (arguably) little at stake.
Jace Posted 18 February 2012 Posted 18 February 2012 The medical team did't know is wrong with Drinkwaters foot no broken bones were found on the X-Ray, so no one really knows how long he could be out for could just be a week or 2

NP said he didn't know how long so why "several" is being mentioned as though it is a fact I've no idea.
