Captain... Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 I am sure this has been mentioned in the films thread, but it deserves one of it's own, this is the culmination of years of planning and 5 films, I know I am setting myself up massively for disappointment (I have not been this excited about a film since Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), but the trailer looks ace and Joss Whedon is the perfect man to have behind the project, is anyone else excited by this or am I the only geek on the forum?
Libertine Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 I have a certain horn after a certain aspect of the trailer. Hulk, obviously.

General Smuts Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 4th May along with the dates for the Euro's are the only things in my LCFC calendar. CAN NOT WAIT.
Daggers Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 I'm expecting to be as disappointed as I was with Thor and as happy as I was with Cap A. Hulk was a terrible movie, Hawkeye looks nothing like Hawkeye should look and NICK FURY ISN'T BLACK! I can not for one second see the cast of Big Bang Theory rating this film highly .
21st Century Fox Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 Apparently they had to change the name to Avengers Assemble for us thick Brits because we might confuse it with The Avengers (Mainly that shit 1998 film).
Daggers Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 Apparently they had to change the name to Avengers Assemble for us thick Brits because we might confuse it with The Avengers (Mainly that shit 1998 film). "Avengers assemble!" was always the cry that went up at the outset of a crisis as a call to arms - every geek knows that. Just like when the cry "Secret Inner Circle Swan Vestas assemble!" goes out during times of posting crisis.

Hulk was a terrible movie, Hawkeye looks nothing like Hawkeye should look and NICK FURY ISN'T BLACK! I can not for one second see the cast of Big Bang Theory rating this film highly . I don't have any problem with Nick Fury being black the white Nick Fury was hardly awesome: I understand the uproar over a black actor playing one of the "norse gods" in Thor because it did just feel like tokenism, whereas Nick Fury is an American and some Americans are black, and it's Samuel L Jackson, he is cool. Thor wasn't a good movie, I thought Captain America was actually pretty good, a little over the top on the patriotism, but then he is Captain America (he is also the Human Torch which must be confusing). The incredible Hulk wasn't great but it was much better than Hulk, I think the problem with Hulk is that he is quite complex but also one dimensional and as a lead character in a film it is hard to get the balance, like the Thing in Fantastic Four, a film about him would be terrible but as part of the cast it worked and I expect Hulk to shine in this film. To be honest I don't care how they look, what I care about is how awesome this film is and if the trailer is anything to go by then it looks good.
Captain... Posted 2 March 2012 Author Posted 2 March 2012 People watch this garbage? No man, they don't watch it, they experience it. Edit: It may not be the best cinema in the world but give me this and a bucket of popcorn and I will be very happy as a pig in shit escaping to a world of superheroes for 90 minutes.

I thought that Heimdall was one of the best characters in Thor - even though I had huge misgivings about him being black. As for Nick Fury being black, well comics are constantly "rebooting" themselves and there are ther alternative Marvel universes and stuff, so...
AyewJoking Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 No Spider-man, the greatest Marvel hero of them all?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 No Spider-man, the greatest Marvel hero of them all? Because he's not an Avenger.

Webbo Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 When we went to Universal Studio years ago, I dragged one of my daughters with me so I wouldn't feel like a saddo having my photo took with Spiderman.

As for Nick Fury being black, well comics are constantly "rebooting" themselves and there are ther alternative Marvel universes and stuff, so... I am perfectly happy for Nick Fury and Kingpin to be black, but when a character is based in norse mythology and on a norse god it just seems like tokenism to make him black, to be honest I wouldn't have known the difference having never read a Thor comic, but I understand why some people were, more so than Daggers being upset cos Nick Fury is black. I mean Heimdall is describing as being the whitest of the gods: In Norse mythology, Heimdallr is a god who possesses the resounding horn Gjallarhorn, owns the golden-maned horse Gulltoppr, has gold teeth, and is the son of Nine Mothers. Heimdallr is attested as possessing foreknowledge, keen eyesight and hearing, is described as "the whitest of the gods", and keeps watch for the onset of Ragnarök while drinking fine mead in his dwelling Himinbjörg, located where the burning rainbow bridge Bifröst meets heaven. That is like making Jesus black.
Webbo Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 In Norse mythology ,Heimdallr is a god who possesses a resounding horn That's probably why they had to cast a black man.
Captain... Posted 2 March 2012 Author Posted 2 March 2012 That's probably why they had to cast a black man. Well they could have at least had the decency to white him up for the part!

And the Asgardian gods of Marvel lore are essentially aliens rather than the supernatural beings of Norse mythology.

Captain... Posted 2 March 2012 Author Posted 2 March 2012 No, he was an olive-skinned semite. Yet he's been mostly portayed as a white man, without much uproar. And the Asgardian gods of Marvel lore are essentially aliens rather than the supernatural beings of Norse mythology. Olives are green, was Jesus green, (I am aware of the controversies about the colour of JC, partly why I picked him in my analogy) I also know a lot of people on the mediterranean who take great offense at being called olive skinned, but that is not the point. Yes the Marvel creations are aliens, but they are very very closely based on the Norse gods and were a representation of them and did work some of the norse myths into their stories, so it is not just that Heimdall is based on a Norse god, the whole alien race is. Personally I am not that fussed, but I understand why some people were and why they boycotted the film (I kinda wish I had done) and it was wrong for them to be accused of racism in doing so, but again that is another point. Now can we get back to building up expectation to guarantee maximum disappointment when the film comes out.
Zingari Posted 2 March 2012 Posted 2 March 2012 Bollox , am I disappointed When I saw it was a film called Avengers Assemble, I thought it was going to be a blockbuster about the assembly line of the Hillman Avenger car plant in Ryton, Coventry in the 70’s I half expected to see myself as a young bloke driving a fork truck loaded with gearboxes
