frost1 Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Although wellens has took over being the lcfc captain and it looks like mills wont be captain again who would be the long term captain?
Callabinho Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Andy King, may as well give it to someone young. So they can grow into a leader.
Narborough_fox Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Kasper Schmeichel. Always a fan as 'keepers as captains because they can see all the play and can lead from the front. Young talent as well and already a leader on the pitch even without the armband.

King doesn't seem as vocal as Wellens. Wellens makes an ideal captain he seems to be vocal and commands the game well!

ScouseFox Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Someone on tv the other week was talking about Joe Hart being captain of England. They commented that as a professional having played the game, they feel, and have witnessed, that one of the captain's main jobs is to be able to communicate, and even slightly influence the referee's decisions. As a keeper, you can't be right up with play, and the referee. So for me, a midfielder or defender. Just not sure which one!

There have been some great keepers as captains, but I'd go for a centre back. Someone who can look forward at the play and the players most of the time. I wonder whether SSL has got captaincy credentials? He seems to Marshall the back four very well.
Kitchandro Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Andy King, may as well give it to someone young. So they can grow into a leader. Andy King isn't a leader though. He's one of the last people I'd have as captain because he's the first to go missing when we're up against it. As for goalkeepers being captains, never understood why not. If we're going to pick players because of where they play we won't be picking the best leader. In fact we'd be struggling. The only midfielders who I'd consider being first choice next season are the ones we bought in January. And I don't think they've shown that they are leaders yet. The defence is only just starting to get settled and I don't see any of them as captain material. I don't think the strikers are either, not vocal enough and don't organise others much. Schmeichel is by far the best choice. As for now, I think Wellens is a decent choice, but I don't expect him to be a regular next season.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Either Kasper or SSL for me, Both passionate players.
Captain... Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 I can't see past Wellens at the moment, I would expect him to be club captain next season, but maybe not play every game and then we will have a vice captain like Morgan or Konsheky, it all depends on who NP sees as first team players, at the moment the only guarantees to be starting every game next season would be Kasper and Nugent, the rest can and may be replaced/rotated/rested. I think in the future players like King and Drinkwater could be captains, but not yet.
lcfcbaby Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Kasper would be good but if I had to choose an outfield player it would be SSL
Happy Fox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Konchesky for me he has been ever reliable and is a model professional.
MrSpaM Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Andy King, may as well give it to someone young. So they can grow into a leader. Kings been given the arm band numerous times already, and never looks like he's got a grip on the squad at all, in fact I think a lot of his loss of form was down to giving him the captaincy
Fox92 Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Wellens is ok for me, but I rekon Konchesky and maybe even Morgan would be good shouts.

Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Kings been given the arm band numerous times already, and never looks like he's got a grip on the squad at all, in fact I think a lot of his loss of form was down to giving him the captaincy I seem to remember King picking up a few goals as Captain last season and the season before and generally playing better as the captain, maybe he doesn't have the influence on the rest of the team, but it certainly didn't affect his game. To be honest your post makes no sense, unless you are saying King's loss of form started last season, because I am pretty sure he hasn't had the armband this season. King played pretty well season last season: King had his best season yet in terms of goalscoring in 2010–11, as he ended up the club's top scorer, netting 15 times in the league and 16 times in all competitions from midfield.[18] He earned himself a four-year contract on 15 April 2011, keeping him at the club until 2015.[19] Three days later, King's form that season was acknowledged by his fellow professionals as he was named in the Championship's PFA Team of the Year with teammate Kyle Naughton.[20] He then took the club's players' player of the season award for the second season in a row.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Paul Konchesky would be a good choice imo. Has been one of the most consistent players this season and has a wealth of experience at the highest level.

Besides, if he's already a leader without the armband then why does he need to wear it?

King played pretty well season last season: I take your point that he did score a few when he was captain, but more often than not he went completely missing during matches. Do we want to make someone captain just to boost their own ego to get them scoring again, or do we want a captain who's going to lead the team. I'm sorry but Kingy is not a leader on the pitch.
