davieG Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Merc Darius Vassell, Matt Oakley and Andy King have given Leicester City a boost. All three have been sidelined with injury for the past few months, but manager Nigel Pearson says they could be back in action soon. Vassell and Oakley have been taking part in full training sessions with the first-team squad after recovering from knee and thigh problems respectively, while Pearson described midfielder King's progress from a heel injury as ahead of schedule. King has taken off a protective boot, which he has been wearing since aggravating the injury in the home defeat to Barnsley in January, and could be back next month. Striker Martyn Waghorn is also making progress after a serious hamstring injury but Pearson said City would not rush any of the injured back into action too early. City head to in-form Reading tomorrow knowing that another defeat after Tuesday's disappointment at Bristol City could leave them with too much to do to make the championship play-offs. "We are going to into a very important game with a pretty healthy squad," said Pearson. "Darius Vassell and Matt Oakley are training with the first-team squad now, but Waggy is still a couple of weeks off at least. "They have been out for a long time but, with Darius, we still have to manage that. We can't have him training at full tilt every day but it is good to have him back on the training pitch with the squad, there is no doubt about that. He is ahead of schedule but we have to keep a close eye on how he progresses. "Kingy is also making good progress. With any lucky, we will have him back ahead of schedule as well. "It is important that we make sure they are 100 per cent before we throw them in." Pearson said it was important that his side put the 3-2 defeat at Bristol behind them quickly ahead of their trip to the Madejski Stadium. "We have been making progress and that makes Bristol even more disappointing," he said. "But we have to get that out of our system and move on. "The players have done much better of late but it is about getting a response." Paul Konchesky will serve the second of his three-game ban following his red card against Coventry City last Saturday.
Callabinho Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Vaz in full training? He has done superbly well to get back from this injury this quickly! Hats off to the medical team!
TheUltimateWinner Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Would love Vassell back, He bolstered our attack and was one of our most consistent players... Vassell - Beckford - Dyer... PACCEEEEEEE
Criggers Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Would love Vassell back, He bolstered our attack and was one of our most consistent players... Vassell - Beckford - Dyer... PACCEEEEEEE The way Nuge has been scoring I'd rather stick with 4-4-2 and play Nuge and Vassell. Vassell just seems a better all around footballer than Becks and would be better for the team. But we'll probably only see him off the bench this season. Hopefully he'll regain some form in time to get a contract for next season. The other option is that Vassell could play out wide on pretty much either wing. That cross for Yuki's goal against Brighton was a beauty!

Saxondale Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Great news about Vass, I thought he'd be done for the season at least. Kingy will have to work hard to feature again any time soon. As for Oakley and Waggy, I keep forgetting they even play for us anymore.
Stevosevic Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 In what way? I personally think he is a good outlet to have upfront when we are under pressure. Would have been a good sub for us IMO.
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 In what way? In the sense that we have a lack of pace in the wide area's.... and he will always stretch defenders. Granted he's not the best thing since sliced bread but in the first few weeks of the season he was one of our best players.... (after his ban!). The game against Brighton, him and Becks looked class together.
Dan Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 I'm surely not the only one who thinks Vassell is completely average, and will not get a look in under NP. I thought Oakley had gone? King's good news though.
Simmo86 Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 If theres a man to solve our problems..its Matt Oakley!
Happy Fox Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Vassell is a good player at this level cannot think why no one rates him yes he doesn't score a lot of goals but he is a better player than Dyer imo.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 I'm surely not the only one who thinks Vassell is completely average, and will not get a look in under NP. Claptrap !
ousefox Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Vassell is out of contract and of season isn't he? Would hope he was given at least a year more.
Libertine Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Wouldn't be majorly surprised to see Nige keep Big Daddy V on for another year. Hard working and a good option.
Corky Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 That's some good news. We will be thinking about next year and players will be looking to impress, so there's a chance for them if they're back fit.
StanSP Posted 9 March 2012 Posted 9 March 2012 Wellens will be delighted to have Oakley back. Scapegoating can be transferred to Oakley then. Not getting too excited about Vassell returning. Happy he's back, but he has a lot to do to earn his place in the side again.
