Steven Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Beckford has definitely improved since Nige came back. Best not to throw the baby out with the bath water.
seenitall Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 He only played about 100 minutes before Nige came back. Of course hes improved, but is that Niges doing?
iamafox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 No point in selling Beckford if he's on form. If he plays like this from the start to the finish of next season, he should easily score 20+ goals.
unreachable Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Blimey mate, what does your ideal striker have to do? He is playing great at the moment so leave it I spent good money going to Bristol City and Reading and I can assure you he was extremely poor. No ball control and very poor attitude. If he can consistently score goals, pass the ball, tackle back and retain possession then I will change my opinion. He is too unreliable for a team desiring promotion and I think he will not be first choice next season if he is not sold in the summer.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Pleased that Beckford is hitting form, he can get a real partnership with Nuge going next season, they are already working well now, so cant wait for nexty season. Still a player for me who looks like he does nothing if he doesnt score, but goals is what we have been lacking so its hard to criticse him lately.

Should we be satisfied with a player who in your opinion is ineffective other than scoring? I think constructive criticism is only fair - he must work on adding more to his game.

Didn't see the brizzle game but he was hardly the worst performer in the Reading game. The goal count recently is impressive and if Nugent can recover some form then they could be the first deadly duo we have had here since Lineker and Smith

I think constructive criticism is only fair - he must work on adding more to his game. I thought scoring goals won you football matches, Beckford isn't your archetypal target man, when balls are played on the ground he performs at his best, he runs and chases lost causes as his confidence has grew, when you play to player's strengths they perform better am I right or am I wrong? Come the summer we will get a new target man who will aid both Beckford's game and Nugent's.

Some of the best players in the world have bad games especially strikers if the rest of the team do not play to the standard of the opposition. Hes a good striker he scores goals and his attitude looks great from where I am sitting thats all we need so lets give the guy a little support back

Corky Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Should we be satisfied with a player who in your opinion is ineffective other than scoring? I think constructive criticism is only fair - he must work on adding more to his game. Considering he's had some assists in recent weeks he's not totally ineffective other than scoring.

I get irritated by talk of "confidence" it's just an excuse for laziness.
Happy Fox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Wrong. You have to score more goals than the opposition! His overall play is not up to standard. I get irritated by talk of "confidence" it's just an excuse for laziness. It isn't an excuse at all, all strikers have goals droughts and you know what when they start scoring again their confidence builds up. Beckford and Nugent will score the necessary goals to get promotion, we just need a target man and attacking wise we are sorted.

unreachable Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Good job you're not the manager Your point? It's quite clear from Pearson's recent comments that he expects more effort from the front players including Beckford. Why do you think he got substituted at half time at Reading?

marbelladave Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 I like Beckford, I think he is a decent player...... What he clearly is not, is the right player for us or any team managed by NFP...... His strengths are continually ignored and we constistently play to the weakest part of his game, simple as that.......

topharry123 Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Really coming good. If we can keep him and Nugent together next season they will take the league by storm, assuming that we get decent backup elsewhere.

If we can keep him and Nugent together next season they will take the league by storm, assuming that we get decent backup elsewhere. Errr...... No they won't...... If we play 4-4-2 with those 2 up front we will continue to get dominated in midfield which means the service up to them will be lousy and we will be in for another unproductive and frustrating season. Best we can hope for is that Beckford continues his current run of form for a few more meaningless games and we persuade a lower Premier league team to take him off our hands.......

No we won't we just need to sort out the midfield, bring in a defensive midfielder,LW then the situation is sorted we need flexibility anyway 4-4-2 is no good away from home that is why Sven tried to sign the personnel to accommodate 4-3-3 but it didn't work. if we get rid of Beckford I won't be too pleased. Best we can hope for is that Beckford continues his current run of form for a few more meaningless games and we persuade a lower Premier league team to take him off our hands.......
