TrentFox Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 Right. We've all had a beer and kicked the dog. Everyone has said what they normally say after a defeat, (although to be fair, we all knew what each other would say before it was actually typed). So here's a revolutionary idea ..... let's see how many posts this thread goes before someone can't resist either a). a cheap gag or b). a moan / snipe / put-down !! So here's the plan. In this thread, only constructive comments. No moaning. No slagging off. Just sensible suggestions that might move the club forward. So here's the content. There are just a handful of games to go; what do we do to make sure we start building now for next season and hopefully emerge from this season even stronger ? I'll take the easy one - Schlupp has to start each game to the end of the season. If he's up to it, let's start to find out by giving him a chance. What else ?
The People's Hero Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 The aims for me would be for NP to actually achieve or try to achieve the following aims: - Consistently send out a side with a considered and effective gameplan. Have a bench appropriate for changing it round. Don't just assume one approach will work for all games. - Massively improve set pieces. Attacking and Defensive. - Summer - assemble a balanced squad with options. Specifically, competition on the flanks and both a new playmaker (Garry Parker type) and ball winner (think Neil Lennon) - Address indiscipline issue - Ban players from pointless press conferences, interviews and other BS. - Get some pride in the performances. The fans do their bit. Lets see passion, application and belief from the players. - Attacking intent - lets see some. Its all a bit rubbish in the final third too often. Toothless today and vs Forest and 2 long range goals vs Hull. We can't rely on long range efforts. - Concentration - too much last 10 minute concession of initiative, even where goals are not conceded. Play for 95 minutes. Not 90. Not 85. Whatever is necessary. - Try not to fall out with playing squad - Don't treat fans like mugs.
dave the caveman Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 I'd like to see Danns chop those stupid dreadlocks off

yorkie1999 Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 I thought this thread was going to be about bricklaying
TrentFox Posted 31 March 2012 Author Posted 31 March 2012 At the time of typing, 60 people have read this and, apart from some comments from TPH, (some of which crept into next season, to be fair), there are few concrete sugestions as to what NP can do between now and the end of the season ... apart from buying some big scissors as Dave the Cave suggests ! Yet many will expect him to turn us into a wonder team by the next match !

The People's Hero Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 +1 Totally agree, not really much to add, so I've deleted the paragraphs of waffle I had written INdeed. The fact that NP has not done anything towards addressing any of those issues in his 6 months and one transfer window is a damning indictment, as far as I am concerned.

Charl91 Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 - Two up front. I think is a must really. I liked Sven, but one of his problems was playing players out of positions. It seems Nigel has done the same, though injuries have helped that. Nugent shouldn't be played on the left, I much preferred a partner of Nugent and Beckford then one man up front. - A play-maker kind of player. Like Wellens, but hopefully better. I don't think Danns and Drinkwater should play together, but I'd be happy with them rotating, to give each other a rest. Danns, Drinkwater, King (depending if he can recreate last seasons form and how well he plays with danns/drinkwater) and a new better midfielder. - Another winger or two. I wouldn't get rid of marshall or dyer. However, I'd like another good winger so we can rotate and have someone fast to bring of the bench. - The new "Steve howard", to offer us something different - I'd get rid of a few players. Howard, simply because he's old and we need to be looking towards the future, possibly Wellens (if we could get a better replacement, if not then keep him), a CB (possibly mills, but I'm not so sure) and Gallagher, simply because he's not a winger, and while I don't think he's a bad player, I don't really see how he would fit into our team - We need to establish a first choice back four, though it seems as though Pearson pretty much has his in mind - Discipline.

Mark_w Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 I don't reckon big nige has the tactical flair necessary, he hasn't even made us hard to beat, which was one of his strong points. Making us hard to beat involves sometimes playing for draws especially away, doing that when he took over was absolutely pointless because we needed to win games, largely because of the position we got into under Sven. It hasn't worked but I'm glad we've seen he had the guts to take a risk and go for the play-offs. I'll take a return to boring 1-0 wins at home and 0-0's away under Nigel next season though

I'm not sure, that may be the case but we did have another three games before Nigel took over. I seem to remember us being 12th when Nigel took over. Either way once he constructs his own squad I'm sure we'll be stronger at the back.
MrAus Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 First of all, its a long shot, but this season is not over still !! The movement of teams in the league table shows how close this division is, i'll still cling on to the hope of play offs until it is actually impossible. Things i'd like to see I'd like a change in formation, possibly 4-3-1-2 Kasper St Ledger Bamba Morgan Konchesky Danns Drinkwater King/Wellens Marshall Nugent Beckford Were consistantly inconsistent, id like us too add some of this for the final 6 games. We've took 6 points from Southampton, yet Bristol City have taken 6 from us! Partnerships within the team - someone else posted this somewhere, i feel its something we need at centre half, a steady partnership. I dont feel Morgan and St Ledger is the 1. Most important thing is stability, lets give Pearson the summer to work with, were a laughing stock when it comes to chopping and changing managers. We are LCFC!
Legend_in_blue Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 Passion, pace and power when going forward with the ball. It's all too pedestrian at the moment.
Grewks Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 change the current players. departures - mills, beckford, Arrivals - Tomlin, emile sinclair, stewart (hull fans now want to get rid and would take £1 mil), trotter, koren.
cc_star Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 disagree, when Sven left weren't we only three points off play offs with loads of games left? one half decent run would have seen us right up in it. Not many games had been played then. For the sake of easy maths lets say LCFC were getting 1.5 points per game 6th place team were getting 2 points per game Over 10 games the gap would be 5 points (as we'd have 15pts & the 6th place team would have 20) Over 30 games the gap would be 15 points (we'd have 45pts & 6th place would have 60pts) So the fact the gap was smaller was purely down to less games being played as it was obviously earlier in the season, not for any managerial prowess or lackthereof on either manager's part

MrAus Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 Replace Steve Howard with Emile Heskey or Ricardo Fuller ( sure there out of contract come end of the season)! Replace Peltier with Jara Reyes ( Out of plans at West brom, currently at Brighton) Sign Somen Tchoyi ( Winger, always liked him) Sign Grant Leadbitter (Solid) Luke Chambers ??? Free agent in the summer i think i read!
Stadt Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 Sign Frimpong on loan, DENCH, Soft for the ladies and hard for the men!
