Leicester Falcon Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 With another season drawing to another disappointing climax for Leicester City fans, the talk of sackings, clearouts and fresh starts is the buzz of the terraces. Opinions appear largely mixed over our manager Nigel Pearson, not to mention toward players such as Jermaine Beckford. For me though the answer is simple. Stick to your guns. In Pearson, in my opinion, we have one of the best up and coming managers in the English game. He proved as much in his first stint here. Back then he built a solid, no frills Leicester side that were tactically spot on. His visions worked back then and if it wasn’t for a daft Frenchman, who knows where that vision would be continuing to grow now? The problem was the change in tenures. Both the Paulo Sousa and Sven Goran Eriksson reigns could of, and I’m sure would of, been successful if time had been allowed. Sousa came here with his vision, a total footballing one and in glimpses, his message was getting through. A 3 month time span to convert players like Jack Hobbs into the Gerard Pique’s of this World isn’t practical though and unfortunately, because for me he would have had us playing some wonderful stuff in time, Sousa was given the boot. However the transition from no frills direct football to easy on the eye football was still lingering and Eriksson attempted to mix the two styles together. Another fail. Would Eriksson have bought his way to the top flight though? In time perhaps. So back comes Pearson to a side of a somewhat confused nature. That direct, solid and effective mould that he’d implemented here has been cracked with new ideas of how to play football. In simple terms, too much was taught to our boys in a small amount of time. Ideas far greater than their abilities as footballers to be frank, and maybe a tad harsh. Pearson needs time to rebuild his mould and get that effective style that suits our club back out on the field. Defensively I think there does need to be a clearout because I don’t feel assured watching any of them. Having a goalkeeper that is surely going to be named player of the year tells you all the troubles we have. So stick with Pearson, in time he’ll get it right. Yes there’s expectation, magnified because of the Swede’s extravagant summer shopping, but things take time in football. We have a top class keeper, a decent midfield and as what I see the best front two in the division. We’re not a million miles away but a sacking will mean square one and that is a long way from where we need to be.
sdb Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 You might want to post a definition of 'patience' for some on here.
AyewJoking Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 I do believe managers should be given more time. Had we stayed with Sousa I believe we'd be in a better position than we are now.
Mark_w Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 Agree with most of this, sacking Nigel now would be a horrible mistake, I really hope the owners realise that.
James. Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 It's a decent post but to me it's all just common sense. I'm still baffled by the anti-Pearson brigade.
stourbridgefox Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 I trust Pearson more than Sousa or Sven to sort it out. One question on my mind is, can Andrew Neville and Steve Walsh both have a place at the club? Steve Walsh's scouting was top-notch first time around and most will be hoping for a repeat. What part did he play in negotiating contracts though? This is now done by Andrew Neville who seems to have left a legacy of paying too much in fees and wages. Will Neville's head be the first to roll in the Summer and is it justified if it does?
broughtonblue Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 Agree with op. But to add I do think we have some decent defensive players in St Ledger and Konch

Good post agree with most of it, not sure Pearson is one of the best up and coming managers in the English game, he's no Brendan Rodgers. But he is a solid Championship manager who will get us promoted given time.
flowwolf Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 How about when I turn up to pay next seasons season ticket I inform the club that I will pay my ticket money around January time when I will know if it's worth paying for and tell them to have a little patience.
The People's Hero Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 It's a 2 way thing You get patience if you get demonstrate where we are going and if the fans can see progress All we've seen is stagnation. Sometimes patience is a virtue, sometimes it's just inertia and failing to act

Will Neville's head be the first to roll in the Summer and is it justified if it does? andrew nevilles agreement to pay the transfer fees and wages for the players sven brought in will hurt this club now and in the near future . he agreed to michael balls contract ffs ,retired , not in love with football ,basically finished and a return of nothing , pathetic business . also the wage bill on some players will mean they see out their contracts here sat on their backsides .why did oakley get his extra year for nothing ? he didnt play and we knew he wouldnt . players on the staff then not wanted by pearson, upsetting the applecart, not good . nevilles job is hanging by a thread imo .
dog_4 Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 I've got patience! i can see beckford has improved, danns is now played in his favoured position! we now have two wingers marshall and dyer! linked with stewart,Aluko, maher from Alkmaar, so another couple on the way in the summer to add balance out wide! He's dealing with the ego's and cleared players that weren't good enough or too old or didn't want to be here mills, oakley, berner, abe, fernandes, johnson, ball and moussa out on loan. He's had two strikers since January, added delfouneso who got injured just leaving howard to come on up front for the past two months. The Team is clearly 10 to 15% below pearson fitness levels. and up the road the great Neil Warnock isn't doing great at Leeds and the gap to the play offs is bigger then when grayson was there. But he'll get it right with a pre season too. Its difficult coming into a group of players that bum another manager and don't work to your ways during a season. we've got a host of young players on the way from teams like man u,liverpool,Arsenal that we've never heard off and turn out to be quality now we have steve walsh back. Chris powell has worked with Sven and Alan Curbishley but said Nigel is the best manager he has ever worked with, we have people like taggart coming out in the mercury saying he is a great manager, kasper in post match interviews saying he is a quality manager. Give Him time, i'm guessing Sir Alex went to man u and fans were calling for his head, look what happened? time was given.

Fox92 Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Yet we take 1 point from 6 against crap opposition - patience my arse Good job Reading didn't say that after their first month of the season, August 2011... Reading 2-2 Millwall Leicester 0-2 Reading Portsmouth 1-0 Reading Reading 1-2 Barnsley Charlton 2-1 Reading Hull 1-0 Reading
Raw Dykes Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Yet we take 1 point from 6 against crap opposition - patience my arse Yeah! Sack the manager when you get two bad results! Why can't you be the chairman?
seenitall Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Yeah! Sack the manager when you get two bad results! Why can't you be the chairman? Chairman did it after one bad result........ So with two wins in the last 2 we would be a good team????
Raw Dykes Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Chairman did it after one bad result........ So with two wins in the last 2 we would be a good team???? So, you're saying Sven would still have been sacked after that result had it been his first game? Or if we were in the top two before that bad result? "So with two wins in the last 2 we would be a good team????" That's your flawed argument again but reversed! I'm saying you shouldn't base important decisions or opinions on two results. I'm starting to see why you want Pearson out.
Cropwellfox Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Can't help thinking its too late to be pleading for patience - the damage done by Sven and Andrew Neville to the finances of this club during that crazy 9 months will be felt for years and years to come - possibly beyond the spending under Peter Taylor. The two times we have had decent spending power and we have made a huge **** up of it on each occasion. How Reading fans in particular must rightly be pissing themselves at our expense. Paying Pearson off will just make things worse. For me we should spend the summer trying to get our wage bill back somewhere near manageable, we've completely failed with trying to buy our way up.

I'm saying you shouldn't base important decisions or opinions on two results. I'm starting to see why you want Pearson out. Fact is, as it was with Sven it is not recent games alone that decide your fate- it is a bad run over 21 games - almost half a season but with NO sign of improvement and with some disharmony in the camp, whatever you want to believe. The Hull argument telling us what a great job he did keeps coming up but the numbers don't stack up there either - he had longer there than Sven had here and he still was getting nowhere - not if you are really honest. just think he might need a little more time in League One with a smaller club - hope I'm wrong but it's gonna be another season down the pan if I'm not.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Someone tell me,what Pearson has achieved this season, that has benefited the club.
Raw Dykes Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Fact is, as it was with Sven it is not recent games alone that decide your fate- it is a bad run over 21 games - almost half a season but with NO sign of improvement and with some disharmony in the camp, whatever you want to believe. I'm not saying there's been any improvement so far. There hasn't. I think it's fair to say that the disharmony reflects badly on the squad that Sven built, rather than NP, considering the track record of some of the players we've got, and that of the manager. Disharmony certainly wasn't a problem last time NP was here, except for DJ (we all know what he's like), and Wayne Brown, who decided to reveal he was a massive racist just before our playoff first leg. The Reading fans warned us about Mills' attitude. It's not just a problem with Sven neglecting to research the characters of the players he signed, but also to do with the massive gulf in wages between players. It can't be helpful. I wouldn't be happy if my colleagues were on three times as much money as me, despite them putting less effort in than me, either. Sven's a laid-back person. I expect he'd rather avoid confrontation, whereas I'm sure NP expects to see the players working hard. It must have come as a bit of a shock, and an unwelcome surprise to players like Mills. The Hull argument telling us what a great job he did keeps coming up but the numbers don't stack up there either - he had longer there than Sven had here and he still was getting nowhere - not if you are really honest. Hull came down from the PL having not planned for it. They had a large amount of players on PL wages. NP's job was to tackle the restructuring of the wages, and he succeeded. That they're challenging for the playoffs with one of the best, if not the best, defences in the league is a bonus more than anything. just think he might need a little more time in League One with a smaller club - hope I'm wrong but it's gonna be another season down the pan if I'm not. You could be right, but I'd argue that it could just as likely be another season down the pan if we change manager again. Who can we get in who can guarantee success next year? No-one. NP's started shaping his squad, so he's nearer making the squad his own than any potential future manager. I think it would make sense for him to be the one to carry on working on the squad over the summer, rather than get someone else in to take us back to square one again.
Raw Dykes Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Someone tell me,what Pearson has achieved this season, that has benefited the club. Started clearing out highly paid, useless players, thereby saving the club a lot of money? Signing two good, young players with bags of potential, who could be key players for years to come? Robbing F*rest of their Championship team of the year 2010-11 centre half? Getting Beckford, Danns and St. Ledger to improve their performances dramatically? Someone tell me, why there are so many people who want to ignore everything Pearson has achieved that has benefited the club.

What a load of Tosh If you call that above, which are open to interpretation, an achievement then you are easily satisfied. Supposition, is in no way an achievement.
The Doctor Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 What a load of Tosh If you call that above, which are open to interpretation, an achievement then you are easily satisfied. Supposition, is in no way an achievement. Ok then, so what were you expecting him to achieve with a imbalanced squad full of over-inflated egos, and only half a season to do anything? If the Mills situation is anything to go by, he's working to break down the egos and mould together a good team rather than a bunch of individuals, and in one transfer window (which is notoriously difficult to get any real quality from without paying through the nose), he's started to balance the squad out again. I'm not sure what he has to do to get the slightest bit of support from you and your ilk?
