StanSP Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Aintree, Saturday 14th April. Race starts at 4.15pm. Who are you backing? Any tips?
Guest Bilo Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 It's between Alf Ramsey's Porn Dungeon and Christ's Chin in my opinion.
goose2010 Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Junior for me he is second fav but with the national tend to go one of the favourites then couple of outsiders. I can't see synchronised winning it not many do the gold cup and the national! And not many jockeys win it two years in a row. Think my outsider will be mon mome Around 33/1
FantasticMrFuchs Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Seabass for me, £5 e/w and got 33-1 a couple weeks back. Few outsiders that will be decided on the day
Guest MattP Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Going up to Liverpool tomorrow for this, looking forward to it. Obviously the real racing is on the Thursday and Friday but I think Junior goes very close in the national assuming he gets a clear run.
leicesterisme Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Seabass for me aswell, haven't decided the stake yet however, see how my week of betting goes this week first.
Simo86 Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Gone for Junior as well. 10/1 with Paddy Power I'll stick a few outside bets on closer to Saturday
Simmo86 Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Will be on West End Rocker Chose outsiders Saturday

Obviously the real racing is on the Thursday and Friday but I think Junior goes very close in the national assuming he gets a clear run. Depends on how he's ridden. Gonna miss this mini festival due to work and then millwall on Saturday. Not gonna bother looking until Friday night for the national. Enjoy your trip.

Agree, I probably won't bet on the national tbh, rarely do, I'll enjoy the spectacle but in reality it's a grade 3 handicap. Cricket one weekend, Racing the next............Living the dream! at some point in going to have to go back to work !

adam1 Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 Will be on West End Rocker Chose outsiders Saturday I fancied that horse last year and he got brought down. Price is dropping because of the rain though. My fancies 1) West End Rocker 2) Cappa Bleu 3) Giles Cross 4) On His Own
Ric Flair Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 West End Rocker, Planet of Sound, Calgary Bay and Sunnyhillboy so far. I'm likely to back several though.
Iwan Roberts tooth fairy Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 west end rocker looks like having the best chance of winning for me.....absolute lottery though
The People's Hero Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 Giles Cross Sea Bass Treacle All ew and all backed at good odds some time ago Would rather Ruby was on Giles Cross but still fancy a good run. The going sounds like its going to suit. We will see. My only pointer is if you do fancy an outsider, bet on bet fair. The bar on most betting sites is 150 ish. You can get far higher on bet fair Good luck.
Libertine Dream Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 Becauseicouldntsee seems to be a decent couple of quid bet. Like TPH I can see Giles Cross doing well Thing is you never know with the national, its like FA Cup 3rd round day, its hard to predict. Its more a race for the non-race fans who are interested because its on the beeb. Its a great watch but in terms of quality its not amazing. Cant wait for Frankel's first race.
AoWW Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 Ok, I know I could use google but I'm lazy and someone on here might already have the answer. Is there a website where I can see pictures of all the national runners (horses, not jockeys!)? I know I could google each individual nag in turn but, like I say, I'm lazy. I like to see what they look like before betting on 'em. That and I'm such an expert judge of horse-flesh.
rico Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 Ballabriggs 12/1 West End Rocker 12/1 Shakalakaboomboom 20/1 Had £2 e/w on each
The People's Hero Posted 12 April 2012 Posted 12 April 2012 Whats your criteria? Are you looking for a grey?
AoWW Posted 12 April 2012 Posted 12 April 2012 Whats your criteria? Are you looking for a grey? No, it's nothing that specific, I just like to see how they're 'put together' in terms of build, confirmation, etc. It always frustrates me that I don't put any bets on until the last minute when I've seen them in the pre-race build up.

AoWW Posted 12 April 2012 Posted 12 April 2012 The white one with the multi-coloured mane and tail, the one that's in front of the rainbow... that's the winner.
