Soar Fox Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 The jockey on sunny hill boy looked like he slowed it down.
m00nie Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 ive gone for on his own neptune colognes wierd al (from the sweepstake here) get in there!!!!!
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Had Seabass at 22/1. Two disappointments in one day...
Matt Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Got the winner on the sweepstake at work and 2 placed bets, won nearly £50 combined, can't complain.
ScouseFox Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Synchronised and According to Pete both died. Poor horses and owners
adam1 Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 My horse finished the strongest... in 4th. If he was up with them at the last he would have had it. Alas i knew that he likes to come from off the pace so i knew the risks.
ScouseFox Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Planet of Sound had me a bit excited at 33s when he opened up a lead with about 5 to jump but I was pretty sure he'd fade. Didn't even place in the end. Ahh well.
ozleicester Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 ANOTHER DEAD HORSE... JUST FOR FOR THE PLEASURE OF HUMANS.... COONTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kitchandro Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 ANOTHER DEAD HORSE... JUST FOR FOR THE PLEASURE OF HUMANS.... COONTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! So horses don't enjoy racing then? Why do they jump so extravagantly and carry on following the field even when the rider has fallen off? Tragic news about the two horses, shocking especially as they didn't look particularly heavy falls. It just shows you that you can modify the course all you want, it hasn't made the race any safer at all. Injuries generally occur on faster ground and when they're going at a blistering pace like they were today. It's the speed and the number of runners that are the most defining factors. Quite a lot of falls actually occur because of other runners blinding them or knocking them. Other thatn that, the best Grand National I've seen, absolutely brilliant race. Came in third with Seabass but had 3 of my 4 going really well for 3 quarters of it. Impossible to predict the winner, carrying 11-6 (as I said before, the weight has much less significance nowadays) and being 40-1 when I backed it. In fact I didn't think it was going to win until they announced the photo decision.

The horse like to run and compete, but the jumps are too high, the horses are pushed too hard. All the people on here who moan about people puts cats in bins etc... quite happily watch 2 innocent horse die for their entertainemnt
Matt Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Sad to hear about Synchronised and According To Pete, but as Kitchandro has said and it'll be an argument that goes on and on with neither side backing down, but i'm on the side that say if horses don't want to race or jump they won't, many horses in todays race refused to jump, an example of a horse continuing to race and jump after unseating a rider yesterday there was no-one on the horse 'controlling' it or making it race and jump it seemed to enjoy carrying on in the race. Makes me laugh when people go on facebook saying what they've bet on, funding the sport and then go on after the race preach that it's cruel and shouldn't take place e.t.c Edit - Horses still die in flat races, granted not as many, but they are still pushed as much as National Hunt Racing, overheat, heart attacks, fall e.t.c.
ScouseFox Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 My favourite tweet of the day was some bird, can't remember exactly what she said but it was along the lines of "can't believe the horse I bet on died! so cruel, shouldn't be allowed to happen!!" Bet she wouldn't be complaining about cruelty if she'd bagged 50 quid and another horse had to be put down.

Do you eat meat? You could be a veggie. Do you wear leather clothes? Horses need to be used for something, it's either race or a trip to the glue factory.
Bluefoxtim Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 I had Hello Bud on at 125/1 - crazy seeing as he was as little as 50/1 today. Was in the top 3 until the penultimate jump. Was my only finisher out of the 10 I backed
RowlattsFox Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Had no idea which horses were mine but I kept hearing their names towards the front. Always right and On his own were in with a chance until they fell. Don't know what happened to Swing Bill in the end. Must admit it's hard to watch seeing the horses falling, shouldn't have to watch a sport event hoping nothing dies.
Mack Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Two horses died again. This race is something from 100 years ago and needs to be ended.
Kitchandro Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 People act like this is the only race where there's a danger to horses. So what, are we going to ban all horse racing because there's a risk involved? Do you know how many people would lose their jobs? People need to remember that horses are not people.
Kitchandro Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Winning trainer Paul Nicholls has told BBC Radio 5 live that spectators have to be aware of the risks inherent in horse racing: "When you are in competitive sport, whatever you do, motor racing, hockey there is an element of risk," he said. "The worst thing you can do is to go too far. You make the fences smaller, they go faster and you get more fallers. "Sport is risk. We have to live with that and get on with it. We have to grow up, basically. A lot of people have to grow up, and realise that it is life, and get on with it."
Bert Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Two horses died again. This race is something from 100 years ago and needs to be ended. 2/40. It's very sad, of course. These horses are trained to race. Fatalities are happening in many sports now, ate they to be stopped too? Sadly, that's all part and parcel. Owners, trainers and jockies know what the risks are. Horses have and still do refuse to jump.
