Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Ok so the majority of people on here want Nigel Pearson to stay, give him time to have a pre season and build his own squad. But what happens if 10 / 15 games into next season were still inconsistent, throwing away points against the bottom teams and sitting mid table. Will the owners loose their patience again and sack him? If so that's us back to square one again! A new manager will come in and it will be the usual 'it's not his squad', 'give him time to get his players'. But if we're not promoted under the new manager people will be calling for his head too and others will want him to have a pre season and build his own squad. It's hard to put into words what I'm trying to say here but sacking Sven so early has left us in a mess, its almost as if managers will only be given half a season but by this time the squad has all changed and somebody else is left to pick up their pieces. Its a vicious circle I can see happening, but I hope I'm wrong!
RyanB89 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Hopefully they sack pearson in the summer and bring someone in on a one year contract
MattyFromLE Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Hopefully they sack pearson in the summer and bring someone in on a one year contract What a stupid comment to make. We need stability, this hire 'em and fire 'em attitude is absolute rubbish. Give him time to build an actual team, lets get some stability and build from the ground up, instead of being on this cycle of instability. Does anybody else think that the teams inconsistency is hindered given the amount of changes the club has seen in two years? A classic example, would be Waghorn, came in and was superb, comes back to the club 6 months later since then the Thai's have been here, Soasa, Sven and now back to square one - he's now a completely different player. I think its had a bigger impact than we think.

burni Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Hopefully they sack pearson in the summer and bring someone in on a one year contract I'm surprised they haven't done this... I think Nigel should get the full next season i personally wouldn't want him gone. Look at where reading were towards Christmas time, we were above that and Sven got sacked, What's to say we weren't going to go on a run like they did if Sven stayed at the helm? My point is in recent years our owners have only looked for instant success when success often comes through patience, you don't become a millionaire over night.
cc_star Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 The cycle needs to break Sven was backed to buy the league, twice... It failed & he's gone. We don't know if NP has the same remit though, he could be tasked with get promotion in the next few seasons for all we know. Starting all over again at any point before the end of next season would be the wrong call IMO, even then there's an arguement for stability... Under Manderic & Thai's we've had enough backing to be near the top, except every season & halfway through some seasons we have to start all over again all the time... Spot the pattern?
ta-fc Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Personally I'm not s massive Pearson fan as I believe we're in a worse position now than when he took over, but... Now he is here he's got to be given time THE WHOLE of next season if we're nowhere near the top six this time next year then I agree a change is needed.
Raw Dykes Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Hopefully they sack pearson in the summer and bring someone in on a one year contract This kind of thinking is exactly the problem we're talking about. Knee-jerk reactions and ripping it all up to start all over again every few months won't get us anywhere. We have to give a manager a chance to sort things out if we want to see whether they're the right man for the job. It's very rare that a successful team can be built in such a short space of time. The owners surely must have realised this by now. Personally I'm not s massive Pearson fan as I believe we're in a worse position now than when he took over, but... How are we in a worse position now than when NP returned? Our ppg is more or less identical, we're slightly higher up the league table, our wage bill has been reduced and we have a couple of new promising midfielders. I agree largely with your last sentence.

Mark_w Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 How so? I imagine Yuki and the Loanees were on a lot more than Wes, Drinkwater and Marshall
wellyfox Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 I don't want NP sacked thats just a no no. We've had more managers over the last few years than some clubs have had new players. But if our owners are looking at giving him 10 games and sacking him if we are not points clear then get rid now. If they truley don't believe he can do it they should sack him now. Look at Reading after 10 games this year our owners would have pulled the trigger and did. Back him or get rid and I'm not talking about just money. If the rumours why Sven was sacked are true they should have backed him.
evs_the_fox Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 I believe we're in a worse position now than when he took over Forget league position/points total and look at the bigger picture. Under Eriksson we had numerous loanees, paying ridiculous wages in the process. Under Pearson we've got the likes of Drinkwater and Marshall on permanent deals for a fraction of what Eriksson was spending. Give Pearson time and more of these potential gems will continue to turn up. Hell, at least if the Thai's get bored and disappear we'll actually have some assets to sell. The money being banded about under Eriksson was (and still possibly is) a ticking timebomb. We've got to look further ahead than the next 6 games all the while else we run the risk of having no club at all and, given that scenario, I know who I'd rather have managing the club.
Raw Dykes Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 How so? Abe (who was rumoured to be on £40k a week) has gone, Johnson's gone, Oakley's gone, Ball's gone, Berner's gone. Only 3 players have arrived, and two of those are young players who won't have been expecting first team football so often so soon.
Fox1norfolk Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 At the start of the season we were the favourites to get auto promotion with west ham, however even with an investment of £10 million plus we did'nt even make the payoffs, so I suspect the owners already have started a search for a new manager. The pool of players we have are roughly on a par technically with all the players from teams who will be promoted or reach the play off. Inconsistancy has been the problem and we've lost to many teams who with our massive investment we should have slaughtered so one has to question the preparation the team had for these games, was the set-up correct, motivation correct -fail to prepare, prepare to fail !

In my opinion the quality of footballs far poorer, we're a million miles away from the play offs and under Sven had a manager who could attract a 'premier' standard of player and whilst I agree many haven't worked out do you believe Kasper, Nuge, Konch would be here without the draw of Sven? Very doubtful, Pesrsons got a reputation for alienating players but an undoubted eye for a young bit of talent (some may Sven also had ;-) ). I suppose what I'm trying to say us opinions are like arseholes everyone's got one

Vicious circle was the topic was it not and his reply would indeed end that vicious circle . At least a new manager would have a full close season and a full season which is ample time to bring stability. Even if Person stays most of the players here at present won't be at the start of next season so that knocks the stability theory on the head for a start . stability is just another worn and tired cliche trotted out by apologists for the absolute dross we have seen this season.
RowlattsFox Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 What if this, what if that? What if Reading fans were like Leicester fans and called for McDermott to be sacked after 10 games when they sat 15th in the table? And to the earlier person who said offer someone a one year deal, what sort of manager is going to accept that?

And to the earlier person who said offer someone a one year deal, what sort of manager is going to accept that? Well im sure the Reading fans were pretty pissed off after ten games but then unlike us they started to pick up and have got promotion. they are laughing with nothing to moan about where as we have their twat Mills and going no where.
Lcfcman2010 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 And to the earlier person who said offer someone a one year deal, what sort of manager is going to accept that? Pep Guardiola???
Fox92 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 How so? Abe was apparently on 40k a week. Oakley would have been on decent money, as would have Ball and Johnson. I imagine the likes of Drinkwater, Marshall and Morgan are not on as much as other players. One of Nigel's attributes is that he won't just pay a player. Take Billy Sharp for example, who wanted more than what we offered, so in the end Nigel walked away. Reducing wages is something he did at Hull as well, and a massive job, considering he got rid of the likes of Jimmy Bullard.

It wasn't the get rid of Pearson comment that was stupid, it was the idea of bringing someone in on a 1 year contract to replace him that is stupid. Which it is, we need to start thinking long term, there is no point getting rid of NP if there is nobody out there any better to replace him, if it was my decision and my money I would give Pearson a full season next season regardless of position. Not because I love NP, but because he can't be judged on this season, he has not been able to field a settled side and has been disrupted by injuries and suspensions all season, not to mention the Matt Mills incident. He knows what is needed to rebuild this squad, and he either didn't want to, didn't think it was necessary or didn't have the backing to fully overhaul the squad in January. So many people on here are so worried about how much money the owners are spending, I can't think of anyone better to manage the purse strings than NP, he will bring in young hungry players for a good price so that even if we don't acheive instant promotion we will have improved our assets and playing squad. How many of the top 10 in the championship changed their manager mid-season and improved in doing so. The truth is this season we haven't been good enough, but it is also true that we haven't been good enough by a very small margin. We could have, should have, would have won so many more games if we had had a little luck, or a more bit more quality in front of goal, at the back or in the middle, there is no one cause to our lack of success it is a combination of many small factors and it doesn't require a lot to turn the would've, should've, could'ves into successes, it may be a pre-season together training to play the NP way may be all that is needed, change and upheaval isn't. If we start next season with NP then, barring the threat of relegation, we need to finish the season with him, if we are not going to start the next season with NP then that decision needs to be made before the end of the season and a new man in place ASAP, but I really don't know who is available who is better than NP, Mick McCarthy? Lee Clark? Steve Howard?

So let's say you'r right about Abe and we were paying full whack on Ball and Johnson (we don't know this) the wages bill is down by maybe 80k a week? and that benefits Leicester City how exactly, with it's £50m+ debt? Nige is taking £20k a week and no doubt his useless sidekicks are drawing the same between them - the fact remains that Nigel Pearson should be judged by where we are in the league not whether or not he has saved Top around 3% off the wages bill - who cares
