seenitall Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Abe was apparently on 40k a week. Oakley would have been on decent money, as would have Ball and Johnson. I imagine the likes of Drinkwater, Marshall and Morgan are not on as much as other players. One of Nigel's attributes is that he won't just pay a player. Take Billy Sharp for example, who wanted more than what we offered, so in the end Nigel walked away. Reducing wages is something he did at Hull as well, and a massive job, considering he got rid of the likes of Jimmy Bullard. I thought he ran a mile........ It wasn't the get rid of Pearson comment that was stupid, it was the idea of bringing someone in on a 1 year contract to replace him that is stupid. Which it is, we need to start thinking long term, there is no point getting rid of NP if there is nobody out there any better to replace him, if it was my decision and my money I would give Pearson a full season next season regardless of position. Not because I love NP, but because he can't be judged on this season, he has not been able to field a settled side and has been disrupted by injuries and suspensions all season, not to mention the Matt Mills incident. He knows what is needed to rebuild this squad, and he either didn't want to, didn't think it was necessary or didn't have the backing to fully overhaul the squad in January. So many people on here are so worried about how much money the owners are spending, I can't think of anyone better to manage the purse strings than NP, he will bring in young hungry players for a good price so that even if we don't acheive instant promotion we will have improved our assets and playing squad. How many of the top 10 in the championship changed their manager mid-season and improved in doing so. The truth is this season we haven't been good enough, but it is also true that we haven't been good enough by a very small margin. We could have, should have, would have won so many more games if we had had a little luck, or a more bit more quality in front of goal, at the back or in the middle, there is no one cause to our lack of success it is a combination of many small factors and it doesn't require a lot to turn the would've, should've, could'ves into successes, it may be a pre-season together training to play the NP way may be all that is needed, change and upheaval isn't. If we start next season with NP then, barring the threat of relegation, we need to finish the season with him, if we are not going to start the next season with NP then that decision needs to be made before the end of the season and a new man in place ASAP, but I really don't know who is available who is better than NP, Mick McCarthy? Lee Clark? Steve Howard? Yeah, like that crap Barcelona
Captain... Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 I thought he ran a mile........ Yeah, like that crap Barcelona Great comparison, you could also say MON, but the difference is he only wants a one year contract, to offer a manager a one year contract, which was how I interpretted Hopefully they sack pearson in the summer and bring someone in on a one year contract Most would laugh in your face and tell you to fvck off, only the very best managers have the confidence in their ability to demand a one year contract, we will not be attracting MON or Pep Guardiola, we will be attracting Steve Bruce and Mick McCarthy.

Raw Dykes Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 It was only a stupid comment in YOUR opinion. Stop being so dismissive of someone else's opinion. He is not alone in thinking get rid of Pearson now . Vicious circle was the topic was it not and his reply would indeed end that vicious circle . At least a new manager would have a full close season and a full season which is ample time to bring stability. Even if Person stays most of the players here at present won't be at the start of next season so that knocks the stability theory on the head for a start . stability is just another worn and tired cliche trotted out by apologists for the absolute dross we have seen this season. What if this, what if that? What if Reading fans were like Leicester fans and called for McDermott to be sacked after 10 games when they sat 15th in the table? And to the earlier person who said offer someone a one year deal, what sort of manager is going to accept that? Well im sure the Reading fans were pretty pissed off after ten games but then unlike us they started to pick up and have got promotion. they are laughing with nothing to moan about where as we have their twat Mills and going no where. flowwolf, this is a very quick change of opinion. In the space of half an hour, you've gone from saying stability is worth nothing, and is just an excuse "apologists" use to argue that the manager should be given a fair amount of time, to totally changing your mind and talking about a great example of stability beating a knee-jerk sacking hands down, proving the point of the person you replied to. So which is it? Do you think stability is a good or bad thing?

And to the earlier person who said offer someone a one year deal, what sort of manager is going to accept that? And what about Chris Powell. Go back 12 months and you'll see their fans saying the same as some of ours. He came back mid-season and they never got going, went from play-off hopefuls to midtable. They were split between those saying he's not the man for the job and we should get rid, and those saying he needs longer. Now I'm not saying we're definitely going to do what they did, but it could very easily happen. We'd be crazy to sack him now.

Out Foxed Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 i'm glad svennis got the boot before he could jizz more money up the wall in a new transfer window.
acooling08 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 The vicious circle is sacking so many managers in the first place. Very very few managers will bring instant success, so you have to keep one in charge for at least 2 or 3 seasons.

This is who Pearson brought in during the summer of 09 Chris Weale Robbie Neilson Wayne Brown Richie Wellens Paul Gallagher Dany N'Guessan Yann Kermorgant Martyn Waghorn (season loan) A very hit-and-miss selection, undermining the myth that his scouting team have an unblemished record of bringing quality to the club. Dare the owners take the risk of letting them loose again this summer?
ozleicester Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 To be honest (and im sure ill change this opinion if things go badly early next year but) I think its time we just guarantee NP next season and let him do his job. Tell him, unless we are looking at relegation your job is safe until April 2013

Dare the owners take the risk of letting them loose again this summer? For the budget he had it was hard to do much better, Didn't he also bring in Nicky Adams who was criminally underused, but that is a different matter. I never said his record was unblemished, but the majority of those players played all season when we finished 5th, so despite them being comparatively worse on an individual level to the Sven dream team, they performed better. Neilsen was a tryer but he was always left exposed by the lack of a wide right player and he wasn't good enough to provide the width and the defensive cover, Kermogant was a bit of a punt, and it didn't pay off, but we didn't pay anything for him. N'Guessan was not a bad player at this level, but nothing special he did a job for us, but ultimately wasn't good enough for us, but a decent squad player regardless and again for the money paid was worth the chance to see if we could turn him into something better. Wayne Brown is exactly the kind of player we have missed this season, if only we could find a non racist Wayne Brown, then we would be laughing.

( unless he don't like the white folks )
Babylon Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Chris Weale - FREE Robbie Neilson - FREE Wayne Brown - FREE Richie Wellens - about £1m Paul Gallagher - About £600/£700k Dany N'Guessan - FREE Yann Kermorgant - FREE Martyn Waghorn - LOAN You shop in the bargain basement, you will end up with some that don't work out. That would be Wes Morgan then ! ( unless he don't like the white folks ) Last time Pearson was here people actually accused him of not liking black players
Oxfordfox83 Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Great post - good luck with it if we are not in the top 6 or even top 3 by October - he'll be slaughtered (and not just by the naysayers of now) The slaughterers would be idiots. QPR, Blackburn, Bolton or Wolves will be down next year, plus at least two of West Ham, Forest, Leeds etc etc. All have a sense of entitlement, only 3 will achieve promotion and noone will be promoted by October. It takes a season to achieve anything (apart from the League Cup), and that's why Reading fans who called for the chop will have red faces (or more likely have changed their story...)
Corky Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Right, a choice has to be made- change it now or in the next few weeks or give Pearson a chance to put his own squad together and, barring a horrendous start, let him get on with his job.

Fairly poor example, as McDermott had them in the play off final last year and so some tolerance would be given to the man, although I am sure there were those who would have been calling for his head. If Nige had shown some improvements this season then of course everyone would be behind him - losing to lowly teams without so much as a whimper kills any belief that the 'naysayers' had in him - I was well up for him doing well when he came back but his dullard responses and crap team selections have failed to win him my support and so it seems many others too - we are a small number now but you 'flat earthers' will see the light........
dolorous ed Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 difficult to see any positives from this constant chopping and changing granted they've had a few managers walk out on them since, but i believe the last manager swansea city actually fired was nick cusack in 2002, not sure if that proves anything, but i think it does...maybe a bit

Guy Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Pearson should definitely be given more time - I know many have said it already but it is the only way forward really, especially when the prospect of a Steve Bruce or Mick McCarthy looms as a would be replacement for NP. A full summer in charge to straighten out the present team and make adjustments where necessary should be enough to start next season well and hopefully improve into play off contenders or top two. What could be simpler? I know that sounds a tad dreary and I know everyone would like us to be promoted by next Christmas but it's not that an easy league,......this isn't League One!

The proof will be in the pudding I suppose, and one of us will be wrong come summer 2013. However, if you're right it will still be for the wrong reasons-you can only guess about a manager at this stage, and my flat world will be a much better place to watch LCFC from. I'll be enjoying successes, small or large, rather than hoping we lose so that I can be smug about being right. Enjoy your football.

Yeah, I love it when Leicester lose dufus - always the last resort of the herd - 'you love it when we lose" what a crap, weak, pathetic, ill informed, mindless, tasteless, ignorant thing to say, just because I think we will do better under different management - cock
