Pressure drives on Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson

Nigel Pearson says he thrives under the pressure of transforming Leicester City into genuine promotion challengers next season.

The weight of expectation has been huge on City this season and they have not been able to live up to it.

That has increased the pressure on Pearson – who rejoined the club from Hull in November – to match that expectation during the next campaign.

However, Pearson said he does not worry about the consequences for him if he fails.

"That is the challenge and that is why I came back," he said. "There is a weight of expectation and I am very happy to be at the helm and embrace that pressure.

"I am not someone who worries about the implications of pressure. I thrive on that.

"I would rather we were in a stronger position and be where we expect us to be – in a better position in the league and pushing for promotion.

"We are in the situation we are in and it is my job to improve the fortunes of the club. I am very happy to have that as my responsibility.

"The time-scales involved in improving teams is tight, and time is something that you never have enough of, but I don't worry about those things.

"I am confident in myself and with the people who work alongside me and with me.

"Unfortunately it hasn't happened for us this season, but we will get there."

What do you want him to say? He gets asked a question and answers it, perhaps the interviewers should ask something a bit more interesting.

Yes like exactly how much will you take home in cash even if you do get the sack. no wonder he doesn't worry about the consequences if he fails , I wish someone would sack me for half a million !

A cheque for half a million Zimbabwean dollars is in the post... YOU'RE FIRED.

Its getting bad when people are starting to even criticise a standard interview....

I get the feeling if NP gave 1k to Birch's fund, people would moan he should of given 1.1k!!!

Standard practice on here when people get their knickers in a twist.

I like his interviews, concise without giving too much away. He's not going to sit there and say how he is going to resolve this as surely that would mean other teams can suss us out? Still, lets hope he can turn us around next season and get us back on track!

more propaganda from the merc !

what next ? wellens & gallagher pledge to win the league next year.....

The Mercury has never slagged off City. You don't bite the hand that feeds.

And for those who are fed up of NP's dull interviews, I seem to remember the last manager who really gave good, interesting interviews was... mmmm... yes.... Ian Holloway.

Why don't we get him back?

How come radio Leicester gets away with it then when Youngy starts his rants ?

Has Youngy ever criticised the management or slated City in the way people <sic> on here do?

I think not.

I think if you look at every manager of every club, they all stick to nearly the same script depending on their position and situation, the only ones who will ever really give unique interviews are your managers like Mancini, Wenger and SAF.

All i'm saying is I wish he'd say something else, not the same stuff we've heard over the last few months!

I'm a fan of Pearson and i don't want him to get sacked, doesn't mean i have to like everything he says

Like what? Is he keeps getting asked the same questions he will keep giving the same responses. If he's not changed his mind why would he say something different.

Yawn. The regularity in which he is having to issue these hollow pseudo-defiant statements only serves to betray how meaningless they are.

How about just stfu for a while eh Nige? Enjoy your expensive holidays over the summer and we'll hear from you again when you've actually done some work rather than just talking about it.

I've always seen Pearson as a media whore too.

I don't think anyone asked him any questions, I reckon he just rang up the Mercury and started reeling that stuff off, quite possibly as a rap.

They tried to discourage him, saying that no-one was around to take his call, but he just kept holding for ages, so intent was he to get it off his chest

The biggest worry for me is that he doesn't seem phased that he just wasted 30 games of a season and achieved nothing - just that he isn't that bothered. I'm glad he doesn't work for me 'I know I haven't done any work for 6 months but I'm not phased, in fact I enjoy the fact I have some pressure now, I thrive on it'

Stop talking man and actually get thriving - how long does it take before he shows some thriving evidence?

Yes, obviously.

Yes, obviously.

Well the use of some more dynamic rhetoric rather than "I would rather we were in a stronger position and be where we expect us to be – in a better position in the league and pushing for promotion.

"We are in the situation we are in and it is my job to improve the fortunes of the club" would go some to convince me - he sounds like Eeyore moaning about a rainy day rather than a man who needs to motivate a team -

What does 'I'd rather' mean - he should be saying, "I will give everything I have until my dying breath rattles in my exhausted throat to ensure that the players give you every ounce of their flesh on the battlefield of play, until this once great club has reached the heights of mid table Premiership stability once more and you, our loyal and deserving followers can be proud once more' - or something
