Happy Fox Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 You're missing the point about how much Heskey actually contributes. 4 goals and 2 assists in the last 2 years. Not even a hard decision. Unless you think Nugent and Beckford are going to score 40 goals along side him. You keep on harping on about Beckford, well I appreciate Beckford and the answer to his problems would be a target man to play alongside it doesn't have to necessarily be Heskey but that someone to fit that description would aid in Beckford's and Nugent's game.

I'd be happy to replace Beckford. But with someone better. I don't think the answer is playing one striker who doesn't score and doesn't assist alongside another striker who's expected to get (almost literally) all the goals.

I don't think the answer is playing one striker who doesn't score and doesn't assist alongside another striker who's expected to get (almost literally) all the goals. It wouldn't just be Beckford. Nugent, Waghorn and Vassell they could all score goals alongside a target man imo.
Haydos Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 But it is Heskey, isn't that the point!? The point? I mean that it's 'Heskey'....Leicester legend. Not a very good player these days. Yet people still want him because of his name and what he's done for us. Invite him to a game sometime, whatever, don't sign him just cause he's available. I'd much, much, much, much prefer someone like Ricardo Fuller if we want a big man to hold it up. Heskey is the definition of a one trick pony nowadays.
Haydos Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 It wouldn't just be Beckford. Nugent, Waghorn and Vassell they could all score goals alongside a target man imo. You could say that about any striker who isn't a 'target man' though. Heskey is not good enough. Nugent has more assists and goals this year than Heskey does in the last 5. He might hold the ball up well but that's basically all he has now. He doesn't score, isn't dangerous around the box, doesn't have pace, isn't mobile, doesn't make defence pulling runs. I just don't see the attraction.
Jace Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 Imagine if Sven was still here Emile would be thinking Christmas has come early a return home and a pay increase on the cards from his £60000 a week deal at Villa
Gold Coast Fox Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 No. I like Heskey but it would be a case of big wages for little goal return.
Captain... Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 If it wasn't for his Leicester connection, then no, even with his Leicester connection, look at when Guppy and Dickov came back, didn't work and diminished them a little as Leicester players. Even if he was willing to take a massive pay cut I know who I would rather occupy a spot on the bench out of Heskey, Waghorn or a youth teamer like Hopper. It's not Heskey, now bring it round to January and we are solid at the back and controlling the midfield but lacking options up front and being dominated physically, then maybe as a quick fix, but realistically we should be looking at building a team of young hungry players to play together for years to come.
Corky Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 Let's be brutally honest here, if it wasn't Emile Heskey with his great past association with the club then I don't think he'd be considered. He was excellent for us before, exciting to watch and we made a lot of money from him. Let's leave it there.
Kitchandro Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 Has there even been anything to suggest we'd want him or he'd want to come? My answer is no by the way, for the reasons given by others on this thread.
Stevosevic Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 He has said before he would like to finish his career here. Depends if Pearson wants him and how much of a paycut he is prepared to take. He is a very wealthy man though.
Father Ted Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 He has 9 goals in 90 games for Villa (only 1 in 26 this season with 0 assists). Only 3 goals and 1 assist the season before. You can't want him here that badly. I'm not saying it's all about stats but when he directly offers this little. I'd even take Beckford 100 times out of 100. He holds the ball up so well though and his hold up play allows the midfield to gather it's shape quickly and begin to push on. He'd also take a lot of pressure off the defence. He would be the ideal team player.
bluesbrothers Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 Voted no on the basis that he'd be my second choice target man behind Gary Madine. Hell, seeing how well Waghorn held the ball up on Saturday, I'm not even sure we need one if he keeps developing his game.
svensson Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 Complete city legend, but unfortunately he's just to similar to Howard, except he falls over more. Would give everything he had to our cause though. Hahahahahahha, the best post I have ever read... Similar to Howard? in so much that he has represented his country numerous times, played for one of the best teams in the world (LCFC apart) has played all of his career in the top flight... yeah way to simmilar...
svensson Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 I mean it's a short term fix. I think everyone will be happy that Steve Howard's going to call it a day for us but everyone's chomping at the bit to get a like for like replacement it. Yeah he'll obviously be an improvement but he's not going to get us goals (which people aren't happy with about Beckford or Howard), he's going to be on a hell of a wage (which people aren't happy about Beckford) and he won't run around a lot (which people aren't happy with about Beckford). I don't think it's a step forward, that's all. And if it wasn't Heskey I don't think people would be as keen. why wouldnt he get us goals? The gulf between defending in the prem and champ is massive!
Haydos Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 why wouldnt he get us goals? The gulf between defending in the prem and champ is massive! Is it? Norwich and Swansea seem to have bridged it quite well. It's not like he gets into many goalscoring positions either. He used to bully teams in the area but when was the last time you saw him outmuscle a defender and head it in? I've said my bit. He's just not for me.

Look at the state of Villa this season and you wonder why he hasnt scored?? Look at Gabby Agbonlahors strike rate or Stuart Downings assists/goals - are they rubbish too based on stats? I would take him back on the strenght of him giving LCFC a 6 figure sum to stay afloat.

svensson Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 downing plays for liverpool I know, he has zero assists for the season, does that also make him rubbish,
Haydos Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 I know, he has zero assists for the season, does that also make him rubbish, For a winger that's awful. I'd be asking serious questions if I were them. It's the same situation with Dyer here.
trueblue111 Posted 29 April 2012 Posted 29 April 2012 heskey is a legend here and he has always said he wants to return before the end of his career however he has never felt its the right time, I'm sure that he wouldn't ask for massive wages if we couldn't cope within the FFP rules considering he donated 100k to us to keep us alive? Leicester through and through and would be an honour to have his passion back at the club!

I know they beat Newcastle 4-0 but I think you're going a bit over the top there.
