Dan Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 In other news I've drawn cvnts Rennais in the round of 16, in the French Cup. Exactly 3 seasons I go I had them in this round and exactly 3 seasons ago I got to the league cup final, only to lose that to Amiens. Bit strange.
Finnegan Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Horse, that looks horrific. You're the Gary Megson of FM.
shen Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Get sick of the defending on this. You let so many in so you change players tactics training to defence and never changes. Sick of it It's probably your formation, team mentality and/or player quality that's causing it. In my experience, familiarity with the formation is the single biggest cause for defensive frailty, providing it's a sound formation.

In my experience, familiarity with the formation is the single biggest cause for defensive frailty, providing it's a sound formation. This a hundred times over. I've a good, solid defence now having spuffed my CL money on it and I've just gone six or seven consecutive games without conceding and that's with an attacking strategy.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 Not sure about a combination of both wing backs and wide midfielders although that'd be pretty hard to break down. It did the job, for what I wanted. Just wanted to keep the gap between Bayern 6 points. Typically I lose my next match so it's now a 9 point gap. Horse, that looks horrific. You're the Gary Megson of FM. Anti Football ftw
The Horse's Mouth Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 Schalke sacked me at the end of the season . Bit offer from Anzhi came in but I don't think I'll take it.
Dan Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Came 4th with Nantes. One of my best seasons to date.
Dan Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 If my star man Mbenyane gets no offers all summer then the game needs to make a step forward to reality. He's 20 years old, plays for Nantes (not a massive club) and is one of the best players in Ligue 1. That would attract offers from just about every single club with money.
Finnegan Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 He's good but he's not insanely good. He's just joined your club, so he's probably quite content (which puts teams off) and he's also probably got a fairly small reputation at the moment because he plays for a nothing club in a fairly small-ish profile league. If he does well in Europe the offers will come, for sure.
Dan Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 He is quite content and has finally agreed a new deal with me. My point is though - do you think if Nantes had someone of his ability in real life, that they wouldn't receive a single offer for him from the likes of Lyon, Marseille, Monaco etc... because I'd be very surprised. I've actually played him in central midfield and he averaged over 7.7 from 30+ games, most assists in the league and third highest average rating too, I believe. One thing I'll ask you as you seem to know it all on FM, do you think the system plays a bigger part on this FM than previous ones? Because I had Mehdi Abeid there before and he completely outshone my expectations of him, he was getting me a good 15 goals a season from a CM position with advanced player (attack), my system is a 4-3-3 (the usual 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-1-2-2-1 you decide) with inside forwards, a deep lying playmaker, an anchor man, ball playing defenders, attacking wing backs (played in DL and DR) and a deep lying forward, do you think playing him as almost a deep lying attacking midfielder has actually got more out of him than playing him in his natural position (AML)? I played him in AML and it wasn't working simply because my system is strongly played through the middle and he doesn't play the inside forward role anywhere near as well as he could as he likes hugging the touchline, and as a winger, he'll play better but it doesn't fit. Yet I move him out of his natural position and he absolutely rips the league up. Only made two signings ahead of this season, an Argentine keeper from Independiente who'll be excellent, 22 years old and he can't be any worse than a very average Riou, and an inside forward from Toulouse for £6mil, he's only 18 but he'll be an absolute class act IMO, teamwork rating of 20 and I rely strongly on that, IMO.
Finnegan Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Hm. Firstly, the system you play definitely can and does have a big impact on the end results you get out of your players, in any version of the game. I know people, for example, who've gotten stacks of goals out of strikers with what I'd consider terrible finishing because they create so many CCCs that even the worst poacher will prod in goals at the back post of an empty net. If you're smart enough with tactics you can utilize any number of specialists. I'd personally never buy an AMC with poor passing and creativity but I know people who've trained players with good movement, anticipation and finishing to be AMCs and built tactics around them running from deep to finish a la Lamps. Depends what you want. A player's "natural" position is largely irrelevant, pay attention to their attributes and coach them to play where you feel they fit. Just keep in mind that very un-versatile players will struggle with this and having multiple positions takes away from a player's CA. Lastly, FM is like FIFA. In every version, something is "overpowered" and gets nerfed next time out. On one version your wingers might be amazing, on another long shots may almost never go in, the following year it's worldies everywhere. Experiment and adapt every new copy.
Dan Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 I've noticed this myself, pace was stupidly over-powered on FM11 and you could have someone with pace who'd hit 30 a year even if his finishing/composure/off the ball was average. I do wonder if Mbenyane would have this kind of form if I played him in AML in a say, 4-2-3-1 system, where I emphasise on wingers more, but I don't fancy it simply because I think it's the system here that is producing these kind of results, because there is absolutely no way on the planet my squad is the 4th best in the league, it's probably about 10th.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Resigned from Inter after like a month in charge, took over PSV in the summer. They have a surprisingly great squad.
Dan Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Never done Holland actually. I'm sticking with Nantes until I win Ligue 1. I genuinely think I can do it. PSG often under-achieve (although they've won everything in the last two years) and my squad looks very nice - pretty much every player in the squad, should they be sold, would go for a fee far greater than I paid for them. Zuniga, £500k from a Peruvian side, has one and a half good years (but not his best) and he wanted to leave, sold to Benfica for £10mil + 50% of his next deal and I bet his next deal is absolute mega money too seeing as Benfica are a good side, but one who'll still lose players. We'll be swimming in money.
Brainy Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Portugese league is awful. Porto/Sporting/Benfica, Braga in a little league of their own behind that, then everybody else who I think in about 9 games against them i've averaged about 4 goals. Kiss of death. Having just said that im 2-0 down at home at HT to an "everybody else" league team. Bring on my striker who was in need of a rest and my first choice LB. After 55mins its 2-2, both of them scoring. 3-2, 4-2. Take off the striker again, replaced by the player who goes on to score instantly. We win 5-2 which sees the opposition manager sacked, who just happened to be one of my players from Sparta of 5/6 years
Dan Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 I agree it's dreadully easy. I did shite against Benfica/Sporting as well and still got 78 points. It's a woeful league to manage in if you're one of the big three.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Dutch is pretty fun, I've got a fairly decent budget to work with. Can probably sit here for a few years. Agree with the Portuguese league. It's only fun for competing in europe
Brainy Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 If I beat Arsenal (which I think is unlikely) in the Europa League SF, Slavia Prague or Sparta Prague await in the final Typical 93rd minute equaliser to go out on away goals
Brainy Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 Pointless international friendlies 3 days before the start of the new season (still exist..) one player out for 7 months, another out for 10 months. What a crock of shit Back up player to the 10month injured guy now injured for 3 months,
Dan Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 Pointless international friendlies 3 days before the start of the new season (still exist..) one player out for 7 months, another out for 10 months. What a crock of shit Back up player to the 10month injured guy now injured for 3 months, I'm convinced it fixes that at times. If I go into a game and cover every position on the bench other than one, then I'd say in about 50% of games, that player of that position gets injured. I could accept it was 'aaah typical' but the amount of times it happens is almost hilarious. Fix.
Brainy Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 I dont think ive ever been trolled so hard in my life. 13/8/59 - Monafeng Mokwadi - Damaged cruciate ligaments = 10 months 13/8/59 - Petr Klimek - Broken leg - 7 months 18/8/59 - Pere - Broken toe - 3 months 20/8/59 - Ratko Maksimovic - Broken foot - 5 months 20/8/59 - Jorge Figeiredo - Torn hamstring - 4 months
