Jon the Hat Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Your board and lodging will probably always be about half your wages. Might as well get used to it now!
Nick Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 You just want a go on my tits. Back off James, I've paid my rent on those beauties. Jesus wept. You are a grown up now son. You have to pay your way. Get used to it, and furthermore, enjoy the satisfaction of being able to help. This maybe without the "son" bit. Do all threads get hijacked with people spouting unfunny bollocks nowadays? Roll on the season Say something funny Stu, or let it go. I could never even attempt to put a price on everything my parents have done for me. So compared to all of that, yes, £70 a week is a pittance. But then compared to my income, £70 a week is more than half my wages (for now), so I would like to think I have some right to think about where it goes and maybe even question it. I'm not refusing to pay my way (I have already paid board this week) I am just trying to get opinions on the matter from a group of adults, as well as my peers which I mentioned in the OP, before having a conversation about it with my mum. Also, I already wash clothes, wash dishes, iron, clean the house a fair amount of the time and have done for a few years. That isn't the issue. I do feel like I'm capable of living on my own- although I don't expect a lot of you to believe that. Not exactly. I have no intention of suddenly declaring that I am moving out, shaking her hand and wishing her well. I will be doing this properly. You Sir, are young. For some reason with youth brings a centralised attitude to ones needs. Basically you are a self centred little shit- but it's not your fault it's because you do not yet have enough life experience to even comprehend the situation your mother is in and certainly not the ability to empathise on any meaningful level. Most people don't realise what they put their parents through until much later in life. As Jon says, rent and bills will always be about half your wages. Oh and as an aside there is not one instance here of you stating that maybe you need to change your behaviour or attitude to this situation, such as earning more money, taking on a second job, going for a promotion, looking for a job that pays more or simply not trying to get everybody else to change rather than yourself. Naughty teenager. Selfish teenager. It's all about you......... Sing along.......with your family......
Jon the Hat Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 This maybe without the "son" bit. It seemed the easiest way to be patronising.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Don't read it then, numbnuts. But I like to read interesting debates and conversation, not boring waffle. How are you supposed to know whats been written til you read it? Numbnuts
Daggers Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 But I like to read interesting debates and conversation, not boring waffle. How are you supposed to know whats been written til you read it? Numbnuts Use original words. Repeating something someone else has said without developing upon it is very tired and limited. You should draw attention to my post count, the fact that others believe I look like Danny Baker, my age, my intelligence or question my sexuality/depravity. Try again.

Imagining you as Danny Baker is strangely comforting. Regarding the OP, youth usually makes you feel like you are being shafted by actually having to pay for stuff in your parental home. If you feel like you are being especially badly treated, move out and then soon you will think of your mum's request as the most reasonable you've ever heard.
Finnegan Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 But I like to read interesting debates and conversation On FoxesTalk!? lol
Guest MattP Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 We have to have a picture surely if you look like Danny Baker?
Finnegan Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 We have to have a picture surely if you look like Danny Baker? Just picture Baker with a more spherical head.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 I pay £250 a month in rent as part of a 50/50 split of £500 in a three bed terrace house off Narborough Road. Throw on council tax, bills, food, etc and the deal from your mom looks pretty good. I'd say it's pretty selfish to suggest you're "making up" for your mother having a shit job, you've probably cost her - as a single mother - a fortune to raise on a low income. I'm sure a lot of parents charge their children less to stay at home but if she can't afford to she can't afford to. Personally, I was eager to spread my wings and get the **** out from under my parents' feet anyway, even if it meant living a little cheaply for a bit. You shouldn't need to worry about furniture, a lot of places - even cheap ones - come furnished, you'll just need things like a kettle, TV and microwave. You need a third lodger and some CHICAGO TOWN pizzas for the 'waver, Mr Finnegan.

Convincing anyone they want to live in our house is a bit like convincing a child they want to be adopted by Ultra. Both my girlfriend and my flatmate's pretty much burst in to tears if they so much as see our bathroom. Can't wait to move out of this shithole. Biggest damp trap I've ever lived in. Oh and Pizza Express are always on offer in Tesco, sod microwave pizza, I'm not a student now!

Finnegan Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 For about six months our "flush" was the bucket next to the throne.

I think hes only asked to try and find an average figure, but all families are financially different. He just needs to trust that his mum isnt ripping him off and why would she?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 For about six months our "flush" was the bucket next to the throne. Jesus H Christ
Finnegan Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Jesus H Christ You should see the mould on the ceiling. I'm pretty sure I could get my doctor to sign claiming it's the cause of my persistent cough and sue for damages.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 MOULD, ON THE CEILING. Read that like the Black Keys.
I am Rod Hull Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 For about six months our "flush" was the bucket next to the throne. Must have brought back memories of the old country
jonthefox Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 But what none of you know is the OPs history with his Mum, does she have a history of trying to take advantage of him, financially, maybe she has a massive crack habit and used to steal from his piggy bank, maybe she is a prostitute and wants the money to tighten up her battered old fanny so she can go back out on the game. I guess what I'm saying is this: "Hollism, is your mother a crack whore?" If not then just pay her the fvcking money, I'd much rather give my money to dear old Mam than some dodgy bent Landlord to live in a flea ridden pit. No need.
Finnegan Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Must have brought back memories of the old country You don't need a bucket in a slate outhouse.
