Leicester City

  • 01 Schmeichel (6) Beaten twice Charlton didn't offer that much going forward

  • 02 De Laet (7) looked solid good distribution

  • 03 Konchesky (6) Charlton got round the back on him a cple of times

  • 05 Morgan (6) Defended ok, but distribution was poor

  • 22 Moore (6) done well for a youngster

  • 04 Drinkwater (6) poor 1st half better second

  • 07 Marshall (4) did he play??? (Knockaert - 64)' 8 Looked a great flair player and set up some nice moves, looks like he is still gaining match fitness

  • 11 Dyer (5) great pace poor final ball and shot, seemed to find a lot of space but didn't do enough

  • 16 James (4) poor (King - 46' 7 great goal changed the dynamic of the second half)

  • 09 Vardy (6) good effort 1st half was limited to hoofballs, missed a sitter in the final few mins

  • 20 Beckford (5) chased balls down well but seemed to be playing to deep- a heavy touch and poor finish (Nugent - 46' (6) helped change the attacking dynamics in the second half making us look more of a attacking threat from what I
  • could see)

Another low score for Marshall despite his assist for King.

Wasn't he at his best last season and scoring goals on the left wing cutting in on his right. Seems we are wasting our most promising player to accommodate nothing more than a sprinter on the left wing.

Kasper 7 - kicking spot on again. classy save from a freekick

De Laet 8 - solid, like the look of him

Morgan 7

Moore 5 - just not ready

Konchesky 6

Marshall 5.5

James 5.5 - offered nothing, different again when king came on

Drinkwater 5 - reminds me of wellens in a bad way

Dyer 2 - lazy for the first goal. lazy all night in fact. wasteful with the ball

Vardy 8 - looks class to me, won headers against a much bigger centre half, just needs service

Beckford 5 - ineffective, offered little

King 8 - could of had a couple, only midfielder we have who gets in a position to score

Knockaert 7.5 - played in the centre for the last 10 - every time we got the ball seemed to look for him. looks raw but potentially brilliant

Nugent 6 - missed a sitter, but offers more than becks

Schmeichel 7 - a couple of tidy saves and some huge, accurate kicking.

De Laet 9 - Didn't put a foot wrong in defence, provided a great outlet going forward and was a calm head even when we were struggling in the first half.

Moore 4 - Dominated by BWP. Not his fault, he'll learn and move on.

Morgan 5 - Some ludicrous hoofing in the first half when we were under pressure (one was Mills-esque). Kermo got the better of him frequently in the air.

Konchesky 7 - Standard.

Marshall 6 - Did bugger all except set up the goal, for which he obviously deserves credit.

Drinkwater 7 - A real mixed bag. Gave the ball away a fair few times but that was hardly surprising given the amount he was on the ball. He mist have attempted over 100 passes. Looks a far more accomplished player now in this side than he did last season.

James 5.5 - On the whole, timid.

Dyer 5.5 - Odd game. Missed two gilt edged chances but constantly stretched their defence with his pace.

Vardy 5.5 - Good first half (7) with some nice touches. Second half faded awfully and missed a chance even his first half strike partner might have buried (4)

Beckford 4.5 - Made one nice lay-off to Konchesky just before half time. Otherwise completely anonymous and unable to bring the ball under control on the rare occasions he was involved.

Subs:

King 9 - Scored a lovely goal and not sure he gave the ball away once. Great performance.

Nugent 6 - Far better movement than Beckford or Vardy, should have scored a very presentable chance about 10 minutes from time.

Knockaert 7 - Weird display. Did a couple of things that were infuriating (not beating first man from final corner, holding on to the ball too long) but he has an angelic touch and there was always the feeling he was going to make something happen, as he did when he played in Dyer near the end.

Possibly the most positive I've ever felt after a City defeat. We were great in that second half, and with Knockaert on the pitch, genuinely exciting to watch.

Schmeichel 8 - Made some really good saves and his distribution both with hands and feet was exceptional. Nothing he could do for the goals.

De Laet 7.5 - Looks really solid and decent going forward. Broke up the play nicely and covered well for the centre backs.

Morgan 5.5 - Won his headers at the start but then got bullied in the air and some of the positional play was shocking

Moore 5 - Sadly, looked out of his depth. Some really slack marking, and Kermo had the beating of him in the air everytime. Did seem to wise up to BWP near the end. There are definite signs that he can be a really good player in the future though.

Konchesky 7.5 - What needs to be said of mr consistent? Typically solid performance from the man.

Marshall 7 - Anonymous in the first half but with the introduction of King and Nugent seemed to be more of an outlet. Got the assist.

James 6 - Made a few decent tackles but didn't do much. Has a lot to do to get ahead of King, Danns or Drinkwater but has the ability to do so.

Drinkwater 7.5 - Impressed by him. I can understand why people have been rating him so highly. Decent first half but really came alive after the break. Looks composed on the ball and worked his socks off.

Dyer 6 - Still has a big role to play but his time as number 1 winger is coming to an end. Showed glimpses of quality but he just didn't have the composure when needed. Really should have scored near the end but hesitated. Looked spent aswell and was a strange decision to take Marshall off instead.

Vardy 7 - Good solid performance. Ran the channels well, decent in the air, worked hard and some decent link up play. Really should have done better with his header at the end though

Beckford 5.5 - Frustrating. He never looked interested tonight evidenced by him going down after a couple of soft challenges when the counter was on. When he puts the effort in he can be a real threat. Workrate improved though.

Subs:

Nugent 7 - Helped change the game. Looked great in the air and worked hard. Nice play for the first goal. Needs to get in the starting 11.

Knockaert 7.5 - Looks like a gem. Great balance, control and ability. Looks like he could make something happen everytime he gets the ball. We'll have to accept that he will lose the ball though but he is certainly capable of anything.

King 8.5 - Class. A cut above the rest, has the complete game in my opinion and covers more ground than anyone because he goes looking for space. Composed in possession, timed the tackle perfectly and looked to move the ball quickly. Granted he can go quiet but it is easy to see why he has been compared to Lampard. He comes up with the goods when needed.

Even though we lost, I think when we get some Centre backs in the team, we can have a right go at this league.

KS 7 - did what he had to, decent distribution. Not much he could do for the goals

RDL 7.5 - solid game and will be a good asset this year

Morgan 5.5 - got ran ragged, first half distribution was dreadful

Moore 5 - looked out of his depth

Konchesky 6 - got better as game went on, weak to start

Marshall 5 - never got the ball

James 5.5 - meh

Drinkwater 7 - consistent, starts most things off

Dyer 4 - poor, lazy

Vardy 7 - ran a lot but should have scored at least 1

Beckford 6 - decent on the ball, shooting wayward

Subs

King 9 - changed it. Weve got our Kingy back.

Nugent 6.5 - didnt do a great deal, set up goal

Knockaert 8 - skilful, put the effort in, exciting.

Schmeichel 7 (Awesome kicks and very accurate with his distribution, one spectacular diving save in the second half but found himself under serious pressure first half, was beaten twice and didn't always look comfortable).

De Laet 8 Our outstanding defender by a distance. Positive and accurate in everything he did).

Moore 5 Under lots of presssure in the first half and their first goal came rather too easily through his and Morgan's department. More constructive with his distribution than Morgan though.

Morgan 4 Didn't impress me at all. Kermorgant's height and Sean Wright-Phillips' speed and movement gave him a torrid first half. He didn't dominate in the air and his distribution was Wayne Brownish.

Konchesky 7 Typically committed performance but Charlton still made too much impression down the right with their swift counter attacking in the first half..

Marshall 4 (One of our weak links. His assist for King's goal apart he looked half-hearted in midfield and never took anyone on in attack or made anything happen. Gave the ball away carelessly for the first goal.

Drinkwater 7 (Didn't have much help first half but we still managed plenty of attacking which is a credit to his efforts even if we did concede twice. Had lots of possession but Charlton's quick, closing down meant more mistakes than usual.

James 4 (Our major weakness. He looked off the pace and ineffective both with the ball and when we'd lost it.) .

Dyer 7 Could have had a 9 or 10 mark had he taken a simple chance to equalise or delivered a better final ball after tearing their defence to shreds. He seems to be the crowd's whipping boy because others missed simple chances too - particularly Vardy and Nugent - but Dyer gave everything he had and Charlton had no way of dealing with his speed despite trying to mark him tightly. Dyer was involved in so many of our most dangerous moves and might well have had a brace if only he'd stay still on the ball when

he shoots. He and Knockaert looked far more dangerous than Marshall who never got into positions to miss or create anything.

Vardy 7 Never stopped giving his all for the cause but should have despatched his final close range header with ease. Instead he sent it straight at the keeper. Almost every City fan was off their feet ready to celebrate only to be left bewildered at how the goalkeeper could possibly be given the chance to save.

Beckford 4 Okay til their first goal went in then disappeared and was subbed. Might as well have gone for a walk by the Thames:

King 8 Another timely goal, had half a chance for another and was unerringly accurate with his passing again.

Nugent 6 Should have been on earlier for Beckford. Had one excellent chance which he pulled uncharacteristically wide. But his presence together with the other subs King and Knockaert improved our erformance immensely

Knockaert 7 Seemed to have gifted Dyer the equaliser with a perfectly weighted pass the left-winger got right behind the home defence. But the chance was wasted. City were rampant second half and Knockaert did much to help with his positive movement and willingness to take people on).

I agree with an earlier poster that we were genuinely exciting to watch. We played fast football, attacked with vigour, created stacks of chances and played our part in a super game from start to finish.

Kasper 6.5 - did well when called upon. Didn't have a great view for their first goal but looked to go in quite easily.

De Laet 7 - like the look of him. Very solid at the back and a good outlet going forward. Put in some decent crosses too.

Morgan 6 - not his best game but was the better of the two centre backs. He needs to stop hoofing it though, he's not playing for forest anymore.

Moore 5 - yes he's young, but I still think its risky playing him in the middle. Would like to see him on the right with De Laet in the middle.

Konch 6.5 - defended okay.

Marshall 6.5 - unlucky to be subbed as Dyer was shit. Good cross for the goal.

James 4 - didn't realise he was playing til about 20 mins. Was sloppy in possession.

Drinkwater 6 - struggled but don't think he had much help from James first half. Like his drive to make things happen.

Dyer 3 - he didn't track back enough which left us caught on numerous occasions. His finishing was appalling, and just didn't seem interested in taking on their full back. How he played 90 mins I'll never know.

Beckford 5.5 - didn't have a great half but service to him was next to nothing. Played some decent balls. Sometimes I don't know what fans expect from him. One example is when Vardy flicked the ball on and it bounced straight to the keeper, people were swearing at Beckford for not getting there when he clearly had no chance of getting the ball!

Vardy 6 - gave 100% but he's far too lightweight. Good on the ball but got the first touch of a donkey.

Subs:

King 7.5 - changed the game, needs to start against Blackburn.

Nugent 6.5 - did a better job than Beckford, won a few headers but missed an absolute sitter. Would start him with Beckford on Saturday.

Knockaert 7 - really like the look of him. Skillful, pacey and has great vision. I think if he had come on earlier we may have sneaked an equaliser.

Good nights entertainment - well worth the journey, just a pity about the result. We were worth at least a point and could have had more with better finishing.

Schmeichel 7 Good kicking and a couple of decent saves - thought he might have done better with their first goal

De Laet 8 Looked pretty good all night - very quick and managed to get forward a fair bit. Got some decent crosses in too.

Moore 6 Thought he was decent for a young player. He had a couple of moments where he lost the ball, but managed to get it back through sheer determination.

Never gave up and looks a good prospect for the future. .

Morgan 6 Got some important blocks in but was surprised how easily Charlton got through at times. I had expected more from him.

Konchesky 7 Decent performance - not sure he got much support from Lloyd Dyer though. Got forward well and caused their defence a few problems at times.

Marshall 5 A bit disappointed with him on this showing. Hopefully just an off night.

Drinkwater 8 Didn't stop running all night long. Showed great determination and commitment throughout.

James 5 Didn't see too much of him.

Dyer 7 He tried hard and had a few really good moments - but he really should have scored near the end.

Vardy 7 Does this guy ever stop trying? Massive energy and willingness to get stuck in. It's easy to see him becoming a real Leicester favourite. There was a moment just before half time where he chased a long ball down and clattered into the advertising hoarding/photographers. Took him a while to get up and seemed to be clutching his side as he went off for half time. Should have done better with his late close range header though.

Beckford 6 The effort was there but his finishing was off the mark.

Subs

King 8 Well taken goal and a pretty good performance - better than James on the night. Maybe he's getting back to his best. 2 goals in 2 sub appearances isn't bad for a midfielder.

Nugent 7 Another decent showing. Made quite a difference when he came on.

Knockaert 7 When he gets properly settled and adjusted to football in the Championship, this guy will be a real asset. Looked dangerous from the moment he came on and created a few good openings for us.

Some of the best attacking football I've seen from a Leicester side for years, only let down by awful finishing. No need to panic, this is so much better than last season. So let's say:

Schmeichel 6 - Couldn't do much about the goals but did flap at a couple of corners

De Laet 8 - Good game

Morgan 6 - Uncomfortable against Kermorgant (who played well) and Wright-Phillips (who was very good)

Moore 6 - Similar

Konchesky 6 - Maybe culpable for their second goal, good runs forward

Marshall 5 - Didn't really happen for him

Drinkwater 7 - Largely bossed midfield, but some sloppy passes

James 6 - Solid enough defensively not a lot else

Dyer 7 - The old adage used to be that when missing clear chances at least you got into the right positions. Which he did. Should have scored twice, for which he is now the target of abuse. Grow up people.

Vardy 7 - Has a great touch and worked hard, but should have buried his late chance

Beckford 6 - Seemed to be linking up well with Vardy, but struggled against a good rearguard

Subs:

King 7 - Knows where the goal is, played well

Knockaert 7 - Entertaining but still unproven to me. Runs and passes well and tracks back, but we still have to see an end product

Nugent 6 - Another who missed an easy chance

Pearson 8 - Look I really don't think he could do more, he took off our most ineffectual players, and for all except the last 20 minutes of the first half we bossed it. We have the makings of a really good side.

Charlton looked a decent side, and Morrison proved that we should never have got rid of him. Then again I never understood why we did at the time.

Most of the defence 6's - the defending for the second goal looked pretty schocking we made Kermo and Bradley Wright Phillips look good.

Marshall and James were not in the game 5's

Dyer - could have had two with a bit more composure

Vardy / Beckford - I can't understand why Vardy gets high scores for running around with little end prodcut and Beckford gets low scores for doing the same.

That said, our overall movement was pretty good and we created more than enough chances to win the game

The big positives for me where Kingy and Knockaert

Schmeichel - 7 - Couldn't do anything about either goals. Made a couple of good saves and distribution was generally good.

Da Laet - 6 - Did ok, caught out of position a couple of times, and made no major impact with the ball until the last few minutes of the game.

Moore - 5 - One step too far for the young lad. Dominated by Wright Phillips and looked very nervous.

Morgan - 6 - Tried his best to help young Moore, but also struggled against the Charlton back line. Can't fault his commitment though, almost gained us a point with his wing play at the end.

Konchesky - 6.5 - Like Da Laet, did ok, get's an extra half point for offering something going forward in the 2nd half. Although his delivery wasn't great.

Marshall - 5.5 - Anonymous. Didn't make any impact on the game apart from his assist. Needs to offer more.

James - 5 - Gave the ball away for the first goal, and mis-placed several passes. Rightfully subbed off at half time. Looked off the pace.

Drinkwater - 7 - Constantly moved the ball around, looked sharp and battled well.

Dyer - 6 - No end product. Missed two clear cut chances.

Beckford - 6 - Showed some good touches, and was involved in most of our play first half. Not 100% sure why he was subbed.

Vardy - 6 - Worked hard, but didn't take his chances. You can't afford to miss the chance he had in the last minute.

Subs

Nugent - 6 - Struggled to make a major impact. Another one guilty of missing a guilt edge chance. Didn't take his chance to gain a starting spot in my eyes.

King - 7 - Made a positive impact in the centre of the park. Took his goal well, and kept it simple.

Knockeart - 6.5 - Flashes of good play, and flashes of trying too much/trying too hard. Clearly got quality, just got to make sure he uses it at the right time.

MOTM - Probably would have to be Drinkwater.

Schmeichel - 6.

De Laet - 8. Quality. He's so fvcking quick, every time there's space he beats his marker to it, generally attacked/defended well and put in some good balls again. MOTM.

Morgan - 6. Not as good as before but not bad.

Moore - 6. Little shaky, he wasn't hideous, thought he could've done better with their goals.

Konchesky - 7. He wasn't too bad.

Marshall - 5. Forgot he was playing. EDIT; Didn't realise he got the assist though, fair play.

Drinkwater - 7. Still optimistic with his passing and rarely gave it away, not bad at all.

James - 5. Not good enough.

Dyer - 5. Simply not good enough again. No side who starts Dyer regularly will leave this league in the right direction.

Vardy - 6. He wasn't hideous and his miss, so gutting. Put himself about again though and generally had a positive impact.

Beckford - 3. Laughable. Just so poor. Nowt's changed with him, he's still the same luxury player he was before, does he ever turn up away from home? Like, ever? Nugent in on Saturday please.

Subs;

King - 8. Once again impressed me, once again scored. I'd start him at Blackburn.

Nugent - 6. Similar to Vardy.

Knockaert - 8. FLAIR. Changed the game a lot, his end product arguably lacked but we looked so threatening every time he touched the ball. He's got to start Saturday and I don't care which of the two wingers he drops. Marshall's had a slow start.

Pretty spot on that Dan, Beckford couldn't have argued had he been dragged off after 30 mins last night.

And yet people continue to defend the indefensible. Now substituted at half-time 5 times in his City career. A shameful record.

The Charlton fans have gone out of their way to comment on how poor he was last night on their forum.

That said, he wasn't Reading or West Ham bad last night, and for that we can all be grateful.

Over 70% of people who voted on my poll rated him as 'great'.. Etc etc.

The poll was shite, the outcome still overwhelming.

Sounds quite promising and with a little progress in fitness/understanding between players we could be a force to be reckoned with. We just have to learn to live with the limitations of some of the players untill we have better players.

To me with Beckford very little's changed, his all-round game isn't good enough, he works harder than he used to but the odd late chase isn't the same as the likes of Vardy and Nugent who are pretty much on the move for the entire game.

He's too much of a luxury player and I could forgive a lot of his flaws if he had the record to make up for it - but he just doesn't and whilst I've given him another chance this year, the signs are he won't take it.
