Oh dear, oh deary dear, there is so much wrong in that post, when I was at school I was taught to think for myself, and not blindly accept what I was told, or read.

As a teacher I also learnt that you admit your mistakes, otherwise you just look even more stupid.

One or two a bit daft, and some imo deserved.

When I was at school, I would no doubt have been caned for some of the scenarios.

Common sense should /could be applied better applied by teachers, but having said that, I wouldn't want to be a teacher in today's society.

'In the future, Alex would be better off simply accepting my teachings without resistance.'

Jesus Christ.

They teach intelligent design - unquestioning conformity is imperative.

I used to get detention in Geography at least once every 2 weeks because my b*tch of a teacher who referred to me as the lazy one used to think I put no effort in :( Sexist bitch.

My son was suspended from English two years in a row for telling the English teacher that she was wrong - she was of course - but there are many teachers who cannot accept questioning of their "beliefs" and many more who cannot admit that they are wrong.

I went to see the teacher and head (I'm a Uni Prof in English - and a native speaker of course) only made things worse.

There are some incredibly brilliant teachers but a whole lot more who shouldn't be teaching and detrimental to education.

Name me a profession made up of perfectionists who never make a mistake?

But it is not the making of a mistake that is the problem, it is how you deal with it, do you let your pupils continue to believe something that is untrue, and just chuck the guy in detention who points it out, or do you correct your mistake and risk being humiliated.

I had one teacher, a Maths teacher that would always say, "Aha, you spotted my deliberate mistake, well done!" then claim that he always throws deliberate mistakes in to keep us on our toes, of course he was lying and had just made a mistake, but we didn't care.

Same as when we would have a test, and get the results back, and one answer was marked wrong when it was right, we just checked with the teacher, and he would go oops, you're correct, and re-mark it quickly job done.

If schools are supposed to equip students with the skills required for work, then learning to quietly accept idiotic opinions and decisions from supposed superiors is a pretty good start.

Fair point, well made, the amount of times I just grit my teeth and just continue doing as I am told even though I can see the folly of the whole endeavour, but I learnt the hard way that project managers don't like being told they are wrong, especially when they are clearly wrong, and really don't like it coming from a 25 year old wet behind the ears consultant.

Learnt to keep my gob shut and just take the money, when the shit hits the fan, I have all the evidence I need to defend every stupid action I have been told to take.

It's pretty sad when the most necessary skill in this company is to cover your ass.

You did well, took me a couple of years longer than that and I paid for it a couple of times.

Am I the only one who thinks that most of those look like they're written by children?

Teacher leaves blank forms around and class joker gets his/her hands on them?

I know it's what I would have done, except when I was at school teachers didn't have to beg permission of parents to hand out detention.

I have every "sametime" (the awful lotus notes version of messenger) conversation I have had saved for posterity, including me saying things like, are you should I should do this as it goes against protocol, and my boss saying, yes, it is urgent it needs doing now, there isn't time for getting proper authorisation.

Ok...

I also have his login and password, so if I need to do something I really don't want to get caught doing, I do it in his name.
