I do 9:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, which is a bit shit. You don't really get much more of a lay in and you get home later than if you finished at 5. I'd happily do something like 7 to 3 or 6 to 2, I don't mind getting up early and it would free up afternoons. Don't work weekends, haven't done in years, and I don't plan to.

You see the problem there would be you'd be labelled a slacking, sponging, layabout if you finished work and were seen in the city centre at 2pm. Could you live with being looked down upon like that by hard working folk.

9-5 Monday to Friday for sure. I've worked 6am - 2pm for a bit. Wasn't nice, you would think it is great being done at 2pm every day but you are so tired by about 7/8 at night you have to go to bed at grandad hours.

No rush hour though? An extra hour of freedom per day!

That is true I guess, but I did get a lot of school traffic and 14 year olds apparently throw themselves in front of cars these days and expect you to stop. So every time has its annoyances...

Working from home and making your own up.

Seriously I'm not sure. For 30 years I worked 8-5 (approx) Then I did security 6-6 days and nights. next security job was all over the place. 7-7 6-6 10-6 then the last one it was 3pm-3am 2 days and 6am-6pm weekends. Didn't mind the 3pm-3am. On my days off it was more like 3 days. Lay in till about lunch plenty of time to get ready.

Called the ones who might arrange for a job and the training course to gain the qualifications needed. . She told me if I am offered a job it would be unsociable hours whatever that is and would I mind. I said no as long as I could get to the place on time. She said they had vacancies up Beaumont Leys and would check where else.

This course is for a care worker. Like I said in another thread I don't think it will be pleasant work. Even the pay is not great but as I am unskilled, uneducated, pleb of society I suppose that is all I deserve

I work three shifts.

Morning... 6-2 Monday-Thursday 6-11.30 Fridays.

Afternoons 14.00-22.00 Monday-Thursday 11.30-17.00 Fridays.

Nights... 22.00-06.00 Monday-Thursday 17.00-22.30 Fridays.

So you can see I only work 5 and half hours on Friday.

Have those that would prefer to work 8-4 or 6-2 actually asked their boss if they can?

Obviously depends on your line of work, but any office workers shouldn't have a problem working more flexible hours and it should be encouraged by the government to take the pressure off rush hour traffic.

In some lines of work you should be able to pick and choose your hours as long as you work the requisite number of hours and get all your work done.

Maybe because I'm constantly changing shift every week and not able to get in a sleeping routine, I actually don't like the 6-2 morning shift. Getting up at 5am home and 2.30 then tired for the rest of the day and having to go bed about 9o'clock.

I actually prefer the night shift which people find strange.

Similar...

Earlys 05:45-13:45 then 05:45-10:45 on fridays

Afternoons 13:45-21:45 then 10:45-15:45 friday

Nights 21:45-05:45 then 15:45-20:45 friday.

Not bad, afternoons are shít but its probably because my body & brain still cant quite get in sync with one another on that shift!

Possibly going back onto contis in the new year which i prefer anyway, eats into the weekends but 4 on 4 off suits me better. Dough is alot better too.

Did a bit of volunteering Saturday at the Heart Foundation shop on Charles Street. They sell mainly furniture and electricity goods. Going in Friday and may have to go on the computer. Suits me and I could do the sitting behind a desk thing. Why anyone thinks it's just for the brainy to sit on your backside all day I do not know. Trying to think of some ideas to bring in more donations and spread the word about heart disease. May start a thread on it as there is a promotion day in December for their birthday..

Noooooooo....don't start a new thread dedicated to the subject in which you wish to promote/discuss!

Just pop your posts into whichever thread is at the top of the page regardless of the relevance like your last post!!!

I work 3 x 13 hour shifts a week, including 2 whole weekends and usually 3 to 4 nights. It puts a huge amount of strain on relationships and friendships, I would go as far to say it mildly ruins my personal life. Me and my girlfriend have been having problems and it's certainly down to my shifts and her working 9-6 up in London with a long commute home. If I'm working 2 weekends in a row and one of those weekends is nights we hardly see each other for a fortnight, it's ****ing horrible.

I still couldn't imagine the monotony of 9-5 work though, just the thought of sitting at a desk mon-fri... But I guess my shift patterns would sound like hell for a lot of people.

I usually start at 7.30 ish, nice to get a quiet hour in before everyone else arrives. In dreamland that would mean going home at 4, but in reality luck to be out by 6.30.

7am - 5pm with a three hour lunch break between 11am and 2pm. Imagine living in a country with a nice climate and being able to do shit like go for a swim in the sea at lunch. Even in the UK you could fit in a nice slow lunch, a trip to the gym or something as well as running any errands. Plus you would miss morning rush hour.
