Pearson In Hunt For New Striker

Austin - No - one good season doesn't make him the next Messi and he would be expensive.

Wood - Would be a good signing and cheap however I'm not sure he is the 20 goals a season striker we need.

Macheda - Never going to happen but can't believe people on here are turning their nose up at him.

On Wood - firstly I'm not sure he needs to be a 20 goal striker. We need a physical presence up front who is a reliable goalscorer. In any case, he already has 10 goals this season, so could very well be a 20-a-season man.

And on Austin - this is his 3rd season at this level, and his overall record in that time is 35 goals in 66 games. Pretty good going if you ask me. He's not become shit hot overnight. That said, I wouldn't be going anywhere near him - I just don't think he's the sort of player we need.

Would truly hope it isn't wood because he's only had 2 decent loan spells would like pearson to take sharp & lambert maybe one loan and one buy ! We need someone like lambert, think we should sell waggy and loan vardy and schlupp out

I thought as we were part of the King power group now it was going to make us appear better off?.

Makes no difference at all. They will look at your income and outgoings at the football club not Kingpower.

I think it will be wood, I'd love austin in but I wouldn't pay over 3 million for him, and burnley would want silly money no doubt, from what I've seen of wood he is just what we need going forward and even if he isn't always playing at his best, he's a massive handful for defenders

Sharp - the player who has turned us down TWICE and Lambert - Southampton's top scorer in the Premier League. And we should get rid of three out of four of our strikers? I'm sorry but some of you lot are on another planet.

Pearson will have his target in mind but has to have others in case he fails to get his man. I'm sure he'll be at least enquiring about quite a few players, all of them likely to be the same type of striker. It does need to be an experienced player this time though, and capable of playing up front on his own if necessary, without the team resorting to hoofball. Another promising youngster isn't likely to get us up

I lost intetest as soon as he said sell waggy

Wood - I would pay WBA's asking price (1.5m) but no more. He could be the man, young too.

Macheda - Heard a lot bad about him, but not a reason to judge him. Would be yet another ex-Man United academy player but we have no chance of signing him permanently so wouldn't bother with a loan.

Austin - i would hope to think the days of wasting £5m on players is over, Akinbiyi and Mills are the only examples. He's only scored a couple (maybe even only one, a penalty) under Dyche and we'd have to fork out for him so it's not worth the risk IMO.

As long as we get a striker who is capable of partnering Nugent, week in week out and can score goals, i'm all for it. Just as long as we don't spend ridiculous amount of money (which Pearson doesn't do anyway).

If we are just going to lump the ball forward, as we did virtually from the start against Millwall, then it barely matters.

Didier Drogba in his prime would have had trouble with that service and anyone we are actually likely to get would have no chance.......

Get the ball on the floor and play some football, and fine Schmeichel every time he hoofs the ball into the other half......

And as for selling players i would definitely get rid of Beckford, Danns (even though i like him, i don't think he has a future here under Pearson) will undoubtedly be off to Bristol City. Gallagher also should be sold. Wouldn;t sell Waggy, he's playing better now, or anyone else for that matter.

Nicky Maynard

I would like to see Steve Morison from Norwich personally, i may be wrong but he doesnt seem to be getting a look in at Norwich

Agreed. He would be a great signing. As you say he hasn't been playing much for Norwich but I think Hughton said recently that he's going nowhere.

We don't need to spend mega money on a striker in January. If you look at the top scorers in the Championship at the minute, how much did they cost their respective clubs? Jordon Rhodes aside, you've got Murray, Austin, Ince, Becchio and King - all of them for relatively modest fees or free transfers - my point is we shouldn't be looking at spending a fortune to get one of these players in, we should be looking for the next Charlie Austin or the next Tom Ince.

lol

Won't ever happen unless we got promoted

Why not? the Belgium league isn't better than the Championship imo, we are a bigger club than them could happen not saying its likely but you never know.

If Brighton get Austin we could go for Mackail-Smith. I think he'd fit right in here with his style of play, Pearson likes him but probably too proud to go for him again after he rejected us.

I'd drive him here mysen if I wasnt banned.

I'm not being funny, but haven't they been playing in the Champions League and Europa League in the past few years? How are we a bigger club? We've not even been in our country's top flight for the past 10 years. Maybe a few years ago, but not now.

We're not a bigger club than Genk, really? Even though the Belgian league is Championship standard Genk get into the Europa League. And would any player choose Championship football over Europa League football? It's out of the question sadly.

Honestly, CMS only half rejected us. He turned up to be shown round and sign, and Sven walked straight past him and didn't know who he was at the training ground. Genuine true story..
