Rincewind Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Standing at the door dressed in a suit of armour?
Lamby Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Standing at the door dressed in a suit of armour? IWorking in the museum shop and doing stock replenishment/merchandising and all that, which I've done before. £140 a week
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Customer Service Level 2, basically an A Level. So it's more a traineeship and an excuse to pay minimum wage, but stick it out for 12months and it's something on the CV. We all had to start somewhere so good luck with it hope you get it.
Rincewind Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 sounds ok anyway. I'd do something like that. I've been doing a bit of shop work. good luck.
Voll Blau Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Not sure turning down Saturdays was a god idea. Would imagine that's their busiest day of the week.
Lamby Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Not sure turning down Saturdays was a god idea. Would imagine that's their busiest day of the week. In the actual advert it said Monday to Friday, nothing I can do if they got it wrong, at least I said I could compromise and do Sunday instead.
Rincewind Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Well the football season will be over soon so you could do Saturdays if needed.
Alexikokopops Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 I can't help but think you might have to sacrifice Saturdays at some point Lamby
Finnegan Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Seriously, if you're working in retail you're going to have to cut down on the football. That's just life. But then at least you'll be funding your own tickets not your parents or the tax payer.

But then at least you'll be funding your own tickets not your parents or the tax payer. You're acting as though Saturday is an important day in the retail world. Oh, wait...
Danno Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Another question, would going to a private school effect anything?
Guest MattP Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Can't you offer Saturday Mornings Lamby, I used to do them at Sainsburys all the time and it's not hard on a busy Saturday to sneak off an hour early.
Lamby Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 How many hours a week are you doing? It would be 9:30 to 5 I do believe 6 days a week

It's an actual contract of set hours. The place is near the posh bit of Chelsea so no way of getting back in time

Captain... Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 You could finish at one, surely London has a transport system that can get you across half the city in two hours? Are we just talking home games? 24 home games a year, you could take half a days holiday every other Saturday and make all the home games. I think the lesson here Lamby is in your position you accept whatever terms they offer, then work it out when they offer you the job not at the interview, especially in this case where the job description didn't make it clear. As long as you are willing to be flexible they will be too, I am also surprised by the hours, quite a bit more than full time, if you can make time up during the week or on Sundays there shouldn't be a problem.
Soar Fox Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Depends what your priorities are. If going to the football on a Saturday afternoon is more important than sorting yourself out and getting a full time job which most people have to do to afford such luxuries as going football, then turn the job done. Personally I'd rather have a full time job and miss going to games. But maybe that's because I enjoy other luxuries such as holidays, and having nice cars.
kylestyle06 Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Lamby - they will 100% choose a candidate who has said they are flexible to work weekends, as Saturday is the busiest day! I'd be looking somewhere else if I was you, as they will not employ you if Saturday is a working day.

BoneDog Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Sounds like a decent place to work, a museum, but 45 hours a week halfway across the city for £140 seems a bit disappointing. Is that a common wage nowadays? You could surely earn that amount doing part-time 20 hours in any shop in town.

Is that a common wage nowadays? You could surely earn that amount doing part-time 20 hours in any shop in town. From what I heard on the news 60% of people are on minimum wage. They are the the useless slobs and deserve to according to some people. Another 39% earn a half decent wage. They look down at the slobs but look up at the remaining 1% who are MP's, celebrities, bank executives, footballers royalty and film stars. They are the only ones that deserve their pay. Who am I to argue with stats? You may notice a little sarcasm. I don't care either way what MP's pay themselves. They will with or without the public's backing. It has always been that way and always will be.

But in the bigger picture of my career and life, I think to myself what looks better on my CV - gained valuable experience working or watched football every weekend?
