Schlupp trial at Manchester United

Recommended Posts

We would be idiotic to try and barter with united after all the favours they've done for us. If we want to keep a good relationship then they can have him for a reasonable offer.

You mean all the favours they`ve done for pearson more like!

Make no mistake, if we are not promoted this season, and Pearson is sacked, the favours that Man United will do in the future in regard to Schlupp being given the chance there, will go to Pearson and his new club, not us!

If its not serious money then I think we should keep him he has a chance of playing prem football one day unlike Waggy or Vardy and he can play left back. There's not many players who can play two positions well.

A fair point, but worth mentioning that JS is one of the majority in that case. He's a quick, exciting, potential-filled attacking full back, and I'd love to see him develop here given the chance. He's a bang average striker, and while he might do a job for us, I don't see he's our future in that role...

Get him back so NP can strap him to a chair, smack him around a bit, look into his eyes a bit and tell him "Jeff, you'll never be the next Emile Heskey, so get rid of those foolish Striker dreams NOW!"

Then we have him practising nothing but crosses and running up and down the line in training for the rest of the season, and have him slowly take over from the Great Konch from the start of next season.

Plan.

You're not a fullback then?

Playing any standard of football, the best teams have the best fullbacks. Wouldn't dream of telling, e.g., Wood, to play there, because his talents obviously lie elsewhere.

JS might, perhaps, be an ok striker, but he's not shown it yet, not even really hinted. What he has shown is the potential to be a top class left back. Man U might be able to coax a half decent striker out of him, but then Stuart Pearce/Ashley Cole might have been ok up front if they'd played there. But Schlupp will be a better left back or maybe winger than he'll ever be a forward, so why not make him excellent there?

He started his career as a youth striker and was later converted to a left back, so JS could follow in his footsteps and I'm 90% sure Ferguson has already considered that, and that is why he is on trial

U21s: West Ham 0 United 0

United's Under-21s had to settle for a goalless stalemate against West Ham at Upton Park on Friday night.

Warren Joyce's side missed out on an opportunity to climb to second in the table and, despite pressing towards the end, never really did enough to secure the three points.

Things were rather flat on a chilly night in the capital with chances few and far between in a disappointing first half. Frederic Veseli, tried in a holding midfield role, fired the first shot of note off target and Wellington Paulista's speculative long-ranger bounced in front of Ben Amos but was easy for the goalkeeper to field.

Sebastian Lletget was guilty of taking the wrong option when shooting wastefully into the side-netting while Jeff Schlupp lashed well wide from a neat Adnan Januzaj flick with little goalmouth incident taking place.

Paulista clipped his finish just wide when presented with the clearest opening of the first period but United then carved out a couple of opportunities. Jesse Lingard pulled a left-foot shot across goal following some good work by Larnell Cole and Veseli before Januzaj could only blast over when Schlupp got the better of Pelly Ruddock. The Belgian's shot was always rising and he had Cole in space beyond him.

After the interval, Januzaj had a shot blocked by Ruddock and then sent over a corner that led to Sean McGinty forcing Jake Larkins' first save, albeit a straightforward one. Around the hour mark, the Reds tried to gain a crucial advantage but no penalty was awarded after Ruddock clearly felled Schlupp inside the box. Seconds later, McGinty's cross was met on the volley by Lingard but Larkins produced an excellent save.

It proved to be the visitors' best spell as Elliot Lee robbed Januzaj to work Amos and the over-aged

Schupp looks big, strong and fast, but seems to have a real weakness at finishing/shooting. Had several chances over his 2 games (mostly caused by good movement and outmuscling or outrunning the defenders) but yet to score. Would love to see him given a go at left back as I think, from what I've seen so far, that he is unlikely to become a top striker.

Didn't understand a word; what are you talking about? Apart from stating a series of incredibly obvious statements.

You know I was suggesting we use him as a LB long-term? Or was that lost in the imagery of NP himself telling Schlupp to forget about being a striker?

The way you put it, with all the delicious imagery, sounded pretty sarcastic, so figured you were advocating him staying a striker, but suggesting it was impossible because (as posted elsewhere) 'NP can't develop strikers'. Apologies if I misread that, if you meant what you read then I agree with every word... :scarf:
