Job Centre have a minimum sanctions quota. Disgusting.

I can see why a Tory government would want to **** over jobseekers, i imagine not many would be natural Tory voters.

Thanks for that video lad.

I've been stopped twice, one for a couple of weeks, then my latest 3 months.

I was completely fooked over, because I didn't attend this Mandatory Work, because first I went to Leicester Riders and they knew nothing about it, so I was left angry and disappointed, so they told me to go British Heart Foundation but I refused.

Luckily I have other money to back me up, stable family, and a good couple of thousand in one of my bank accounts.

Hopefully I will be getting a job soon though, after the Job Centre chucked me on this type of agency scheme near McDonalds in town.

How much do jobseekers get per week from the government?

A single person gets £71 PW. In April they have to pay a part of the council tax so I will have £12 took of that each month.

It does not surprise me about the sanctions and they are targeting the ones who do not know how the system works. That is the ones who have been made redundant after many years in the same place or continuous in work and only applying for jobs that they have skill for.

The country is just so screwed it's unreal.

Those who need help like the bloke in the video get nothing, whereas the undeserving scroungers can live relatively comfortable on benefits.

The bloke needs to go on the rob. Either he steals money to live, or he gets caught and can live comfortably in prison.

I work at the BHF. They have quite a few sent there from agencies. It's not bad but they have over 70 now and limiting the hours to fit them all in.

My daughter got sanctioned because her CV had gone missing and the JC said she hadn't submitted one. It took 4 weeks to get her benefit re-instated and there is no come-back. She had 4 weeks without any money, apart from what we could give her, her housing benefit was suspended because her benefit claim was stopped which resulted in a notice of re-possession of her flat which reduced her to tears.

Government bastards without feelings or consideration for those who are UNABLE to get work (and don't come back at me with that "any job will do" bullshit).

I think to be fair, that bloke is surely an extreme case - but to be given staff target sanctions is downright appalling.

I think they need to definitely do a better assessment of how hard people are looking for work - I can tell you now as someone on JSA (although got a promising interview tomorrow) that if I wanted to I could con them very easily.

But this is appalling, like I say I think that bloke is an extreme case but it sounds to me like they'd made their mind up that he was being sanctioned no matter what he did and he's literally struggling to live.

This country is a mess. I honestly think it's on a par with a lot of Eastern Europe (no offence any Eastern Europeans).

They do not give a flying fvck about how people survive.......it's all about bringing the unemployment figures down. The government might tell us that unemployment has gone down this month. That doesn't necessarily mean that those people are now in work. It seems more likely that those people have been sanctioned.

I don't believe the guy in the video is an isolated incident. Ian Duncan Smith is a cvnt of the highest order

Back in 2006 I had a month where I was going to be unemployed between a temporary contract finishing and starting a new job. It didn't seem worth getting a job to fill the month in, especially as there would be no work for 2 weeks over Easter anyway.

As I had paid tax and national insurance since I was 16, including the three years I was at university as I worked a lot of hour there too, I thought I was owed some back. I received £31 as I was married and had some savings.

I am pretty left-wing but I asked at the Job Centre whether I would get more if I had never worked and hadn't put any money in. They replied I would.

benefits are supposed to be a safety net for the unfortunate events which will happen in most people's lives. They are not supposed to be a career option. It needs to be sorted out.

I am not some raving Tory saying this.

That reminds me of one of my friends who has recently started claiming JSA.

He has worked for over 20 years & has paid into the system. He did think that he might be able to get his teeth sorted now that he is unemployed......not being able to afford it when he was working. He may as well take advantage if he can.

The job centre told him that he is on 'contribution based' JSA.....because he has paid into the system. After 6 months he will move onto 'income based' JSA.......the same as anyone who has never paid into the system.

He was told that he can't have his teeth looked at for free whilst he is on contribution based JSA, but can when he goes onto income based JSA. In other words - those that have never paid a penny into the system can have all the benefits, but because he has contributed his whole life.......he can't!! The mind boggles at how they come up with these schemes.

I was on JSA for about 4 months. I haven't watched that vid yet but I'd always thought you had to either be a bellend or an idiot to get your money suspended. Just do what they say and apply for some jobs and they can't suspend it. If you're that desperate for money you'll do what they say whether you agree with it or not. Not a nice position to be in but play by the rules and get on with it. Or get your money stopped.

This is a disgrace, but doesn't surprise me one bit; Iain Duncan Smith makes me sick.

A decision like this would've come from senior DWP management and I find it quite astonishing that he says he didn't know about it when the decision would've been made right under his nose.

It's another fine example of ministers using the false distinction between operational and executive responsibility in order to insulate themselves from any fallout from their policies.

I bet the **** sent emails out after this was exposed telling all jobcentres that the agreement was that they should never of been caught sanctioning.

It's worth pointing out that this is the Guardian.

This story is about as trustworthy as an 'Immigrants caused the snow' article from the Daily Mail.

Like others have said just follow the rules, apply for three jobs per week. I was a little naive and got punished for it. I was applying only for jobs that I thought I could do and this was limite as I am unskilled and have no trade or experience in an industry that virtually does not exist anymore. I now apply for anything that is not too obvious. The bad thing now is that I have a part time job abeit only five hours- but I am expected to search for full time jobs which may be temporary or not really suitable and I'd be out of work in a short time. What I am doing now I can do.

Had a letter to say my JSA in July to match pension credits. I can claim either not both but with Pension credits I wont be forced to look for full time work. I know which option I am going for.

As for job figures and more people in work, this is only because there is more part time jobs and ones being taken on by agencies. It does not mean payment of benefits have gone down or that those that were on JSA are any better off.

A single person gets £71 PW.

I might be wrong here but I've heard from April it goes up to £71.70 with the yearly 1% rise added but 1% of £71 is £0.71 so the government is 'penny pinching'.

So £0.52p a year stolen from every jobseeker.

2,500,000 (out of work) X £0.52 = £1,300,000.

So that £0.01p every week adds up and pays for the £0.01p knocked off beer. :)

People too fecking lazy to even apply for three jobs a week and follow a set of basic requirements? Sympathy? Not much. Admin errors which are exploited to hit targets? Dodgy feckers should be sacked.

It's perfectly reasonable for them to actively seek out and remove hand outs from the people who aren't genuinely looking for work. There will of course be examples for the Guardian to pick out - like this one where an obese person complains he cannot afford food - that make it look unfair but in reality a target based system is probably the most efficient way to weed out the scum.
