Guest MattP Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Interesting reading. http://www.guardian....-britain-mapped Leicester just an East/West divide of Smith/Patel with those Sikh Princesses throwing a Kaur in
Fox92 Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 That's interesting. Knew something like 'Smith' would be the most common though. Knew mine wouldn't, I have a 'unique' surname.
Carl the Llama Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 So London is basically New-India? Interesting.

purpleronnie Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 So London is basically New-India? Interesting. How so?
Guest Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 I've never met anyone called Nourish but it seems east of Leicester its the second most popular surname.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Why is it that when someone tells me their surname is Smith, I don't believe them?
purpleronnie Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Patel is generally an Indian surname. I understand that matt But it was the 'new india' comment I found odd. Seem to imply its over run with indians where infact its only about 6 %...but he may not have meant it that way.

But I suppose it is pretty racist to mention a foreign country.
Tielemans63 Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Mycock is very popular in Staffordshire. EDIT: Dammit! Beaten to it.
Guest Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Is Mr.Mycock going out with Miss Mycunt? or is he staying in?
21st Century Fox Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Mycock Very good family friends with the german Kuntz.
Finnegan Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Smith, Smith, Smith, Smith, border, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones.
21st Century Fox Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 There has to be someone called Roger Mycock somewhere.
Guest MattP Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Smith, Smith, Smith, Smith, border, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones. The Welsh map is absolutely brilliant.
Finnegan Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 The Welsh map is absolutely brilliant. It's our grand slam team from 05.
lavrentis Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 I wonder why it seems to be common with ethnic minorities to have the same surnames? Yes smith and jones is popular but there is still an overwhelming white majority. Surely there should be more diversity in the ethnic surnames? Not gonna lose any sleep over it though

Not gonna lose any sleep over it though Just different cultures. I mean, look at China and Korea and you'll find infinitely less family names than here. I guess part of it is the amount of different ancient cultures that have influenced out tiny melting pot compared to, say, the Punjab.

I think I know what you're getting at, but I can't quite pin it down . Disappointed to see no Parmar's on there! (Haven't looked all the way zoomed in)
Darkon84 Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Boooo, no data for N.Ireland. at the England/Wales divide though.
acooling08 Posted 26 April 2013 Posted 26 April 2013 Pleasantly surprised to see that Leicester still has common English names. Not quite overun yet it seems.
