topharry123 Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 I'd say to leave Schlupp in. Bar his couple of miscues, he didn't really let Anya in at all. Think a bit of it was down to nerves, possibly the wet pitch as well so hopefully he is over the nerves come Sunday and can have a good game.
deep blue Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 I think De Laet, Konchesky and Schlupp are all poor at times defensively and all make mistakes but with De Laet and Schlupp they have pace and strength to recover, which sadly Konchesky doesn't have. I used to think Konchesky was mr constitant (last season) but this season his legs seem to have gone. Would not be surprised to see him back though.. I agree with this. Whilst Schlupp showed some naivity, his speed to recover is important against tricky wingers. Once beaten, Konch has no chance of getting back. Also, Konch has a tendency to mis-pass to the opposition when he's supporting the attack; this leaves him completely stranded up the field, which could be very damaging against a team so incisive on the break, like Watford (because of this they are, arguably, more dangerous when gifted possession in their own half than further up the field). The other point which favours Schlupp is his contribution to the attack and his partnership with Dyer. He had a fantastic run late on which almost ended up with him scoring, but he was forced just too wide; and in the first half, he sent over a perfect low cross which our men in the box (I think there were 3 of them) all failed to anticipate or gamble on - would have been a tap-in. Also, his pushing up with pace forces the opposition back and prevents them from being able to attack so much. As someone pointed out, in these last 2 games where he's played we won in spite of his occasional mistakes.
deep blue Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Although I favour Schlupp for the reasons just given, I think it's a close call. The fact that he has a yellow, and they may target him, makes it risky. I would still play him, but could well understand Pearson going for the "safer" option.
KIRBYFOX93 Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 As people know Konch is now fit and available for selection. However schlupp has been occupying his position for the past 2 games. He looked very shakey on friday which was down to pure nerves and luckily they did not capitalise on some of their chances. Having Konchesky at the back with knowledge of being in big games could be a good thing but we will be very exposed to pace. This is a hard one for Nige. Personally i would stick with schlupp, what do you guys think? Come on city!!!!
Ozwin Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Maybe 3 at the back with de Leat and Schlupp as wing backs but it's a big game to be pissing about with formations now. This why Pearson's getting paid what he's getting paid, to make the important decisions.
Harry - LCFC Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 It won't be 3-5-2 tomorrow, I can almost guarantee that now.
Bausor Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Unsure I think schlupp needs to work on his positioning and he doesn't always no where is man is, I would say put konch back in,
Guest Bilo Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Keep Jeff. I think he's got the nerves out of his system based on his improved second half showing and has the pace not only to deal with their counter attacks, but to initiate our own.
rico Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 i would keep Schlupp in just on the basis that the Watford fans think he's shit, hope he plays to his potential and shows them how little they know about him!
Haydos Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 No, he's dreadful. He's not though, is he? You're dreadful, Konchesky is a pretty decent footballer in the grand scheme.
Corky Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Just be grateful. We could've had Alan Rogers or Patrick Van Aanholt to choose from.
Albert Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 100 % keep Schlupp in but not at left back. I'd start him upfront with Nuge. It's obviously a massive game so I think Konchesky's experience will be important to us
GorlestonFox Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Konchesky, Sclupp and Dyer I say!! ..............Kasper ..RDL ... Keane ...Morgan ... Konch ..........James.......King ..Knockaert.................Dyer ...............Schlupp ...............Nugent FTW!
MGLCFC Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Konchesky for me - why? Having kept Ronaldo pretty quiet in his Fulham days, he's got the experience to keep Anya in his pocket. Big Wes is not the quickest, but reads the game so well. I think this is just as important as pace as a defender. I would play Schlupp pn the wing instead of Knockeart (not that he's done anything wrong, but we don't need a luxury player in the second leg) and Kane instead of Wood. With Dyer and Schlupp as additional cover for the full backs this should counter Watford's attacking threat and be very useful on the counter attack.

Pace is a lot more important for a full back than a CB. If the manager and winger are on the ball (so to speak) then they'd exploit Konchesky. They should have carried on going at Schlupp when he got booked pretty early, god knows why they didn't.
Wymsey Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 He's only better effective when he has the ball and attacks forwards. Conversely, it's been evident on a few occasions that when the opposition's player goes down towards Konchesky, he often gives fouls away.

Konchesky kept him quiet and this was down to positional sense, not because he was quicker than Ronaldo. With Schlupp doubling up on the left, this surely would be enough cover tomorrow.
maynefox Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Schlupp in tomorrow. Konchesky has been dreadful in the latter half of the season, he passes the ball to the opposition a fair bit.Schlupp is better going forward (Dyer and Schlupp on one wing attacking you. Good luck RB!) I think he can cause some damage, he just needs to motivate himself for the game and not to get too nervous as he was first half; second half he was more solid.
