Dan Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 If that's all true about Sterling (from someone who definitely watches him more than me) then I'm all for it.
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 You clearly haven't seen Raheem Sterling play recently if you're putting him in the same bracket as Jarvis and Huddlestone. Watched him against Man City, didn't play to well and missed a sitter. Not interested to be honest in performances at home to Norwichs and Fulhams etc, the standard is far short of what is required at World Cup level and any half decent attacking player should look top drawer when the whole of the opposition defence is watching Suarez to try and stop him destroying them. (And sometimes he already has within 25 mins )
Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Exactly, if this form carries on then he is a must.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Haha ok, so you've judged him on a game v Man City, which you clearly didn't watch closely as he is created our goal and also instrumental in the Coutinho chance before half time. Performances v Norwich and Fulham are the games where he is gaining more confidence because he is beating his man and creating chances, yeah they're weaker opposition but that's just the same for Hazard and co..

I was steaming to be fair after we had just gone top of the league. From a vague memory I didn't look too impressed but I'll take your word for it as you watch him far more than me. I've probably got a lot of biased against him as I don't like people, playing for England not born here or without any English blood in them.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 And you've dismissed his performance away to Spurs, same people on here who don't watch games of Football just automatically slate a player and say he isn't good enough. On current form as well Jordan Henderson should be in the England Squad.

Dan Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Thought Milner looked very decent on the left against Leicester. OK, 'against Leicester' is a bit different to what we'll face in the world cup but it's definitely to be considered.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Like RowlattsFox said, Danny Welbeck is nailed on for the left hand side.

Milner's not all that bad really, he's just been viewed as this defensive expert instead of attacking and fans automatically associate him with negative tactics
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Like RowlattsFox said, Danny Welbeck is nailed on for the left hand side. Again depressing.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Milner's not all that bad really, he's just been viewed as this defensive expert instead of attacking and fans automatically associate him with negative tactics No, he created his own image as a Footballer, he was once an attacking midfielder at Aston Villa and he went to Man City and became a lot less attack minded in a team where there's a lot better attacking options, if Milner stepped up to the plate then things might of been different. He has no place in the England side for me. Again depressing. Very depressing, though in fairness Welbeck has never let England down I don't think in recent memory.
Dan Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 He's never let us down because no-one has any genuine expectations of him. He's far from a disgrace but he's the epitome of what England have become - average. Milner's not all that bad really, he's just been viewed as this defensive expert instead of attacking and fans automatically associate him with negative tactics He's a very decent player and the most harshly criticised of the lot IMO. He's got a fair bit in his locker.

That is the problem! He hardly even bring them out of the locker nowdays.
Fox92 Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Welbeck is better up top, because that's his position. Moyes has played him up front this season and he's scored more goals than previous seasons under Ferguson because Fergie played him wide. Welbeck has said in interviews he prefers playing in his natural position... Not only is he fast and has an eye for goal, but he's good at holding the ball up.
Dan Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 He's not a terrible player by any means. He's not a bad link up man but that's as far as I'd go. You'd get away with him if he was surrounded by stars but he just isn't, at either club or country level now IMO.
Stadt Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Obviously I'm not saying take him but Lloyd would even cause trouble at that level, his shooting and final ball are terrible but he's too quick for anybody!
Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Yeah, let's take a winger who's final ball is terrible.. Surely we would be better off just taking Lennon if that is the case.

Guest shearfox Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 what 4 instead of just 2. He has 7 in 14 league games....
Bayfox Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 He has 7 in 14 league games.... 11 in 24 apps in all comps. I suppose hes improved on his 5 in 47 last season.
Jimothy Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Cleverley... Class, good, bad or shit? Unspectacular. Shit in the position Man Utd and England are expecting him to play, but he's solid enough to fill a gap for a game or two, or start for a team at the lower end of the table. Shouldn't be near the England squad at all though.
Unabomber Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Think Cleverley would be decent enough in a mid table prem team, he is seriously out of his depth at Man U though. Just realised Man U are pretty much a mid table team, now I don't know what to think.
