Premier League 2013/14 Stuff it in here!

Thing is with Theo, he seems injury prone. I saw someone post literally about 4 days ago that he needs a run of games for Arsenal, and I was so close to post and reply along the lines of 'he always picks up little knocks'. Then I'm watching Arsenal/Spurs on tv and this happens.

Big blow for England, massive blow for Arsenal.

A big loss. Thought he was hitting his peak- has been impressive this season in the terms of the influence on his team.  Seem can't to get a run of games to kick on.

This but will he be back for the end of the season? I wouldn't fancy him to do much in a World Cup coming off the back of no game since January.

Sounds like I may be wrong and he has improved at club level but he's still never convinced me for England other than one game (which isn't enough).

Agreed- even Rooney can't do it in 2006(?)

This again as well.

Got to feel for him in a way but it's about time someone else stepped up. I'm sorry but if the form Walcott has (or hasn't) shown for England is considered a huge loss then our standards are at an all-time low.

Great quiz question in a few years if it happens.

Obviously it's regarding Walcott. But it'd be something like, which player was called up to a world cup squad when he was 17, but didn't make an appearance in the competition until he was 29?

That's if he makes the world cup squad in 2018!

For me, I believe it is much of a potential loss as I believe Walcott has really stepped up his game and if he carries on that form then he could take it into World Cup.

Walcott is boss. And when you look at the potential replacements you realise it's a blow and a half to England.

Milner is the best replacement. Milner ffs. Other than him you've got The Ox (just a poor, younger, even more injured Walcott), Townsend (one and a bit good England games, Spurs fans don't particularly rate him), Sterling, Lennon. Then the likes of Lallana who would go anyway, possibly Jay Rodriguez.

None of them are even close to Walcott's level.

Do you feel like this for most positions? Because I do.

I still think Hart is our best goalkeeper regardless of whether he plays for his club or not. I think we struggle in the right back and centre back positions, as well as out wide and up front.

I'd be surprised if Walcott is out for 6 months. With the top techniques and worlds best specialists at his disposal, I think he will be back in some capacity in 4. There's still hope for him to make that plane.

I doubt Arsenal will be keen for him to go to the World Cup, they'd rather have him fit for next season.

Townsend looks the business, AVB didn't rate him, that doesn't really mean much.

Walcott has always flattered to deceive for me, certainly as a winger anyway.

No way is this a huge loss. I'd have started Sturridge and Rooney ahead of him up front and Townsend in front of him as a winger.

Townsend is horrendous. Massive one trick pony who'll get found out so easily against anyone decent.

He is willing to run at defenders and can beat someone, and cross, and shoot. The kind of player we've been desperate for to give us some kind of threat going forward. A confident young player who can take the bull by the horns instead of slowing us down.

Walcott hasn't got any tricks most of the time, he dillies and dallies until he makes a stupid decision. He's done pretty much nothing for England, a good substitute appearance and a hat trick over 5 years ago aside.

Not quite sure what everyone is so devastated about.

I thought Matt Jarvis can play as a left-winger, too? Wouldn't be such a bad option, I think.

According to latest news (taken from the BBC transfer speculation front), Aiden McGeady is close to signing for Everton.

Not a bad signing I reckon. If Everton carries on their form from the first half of the season then I would expect them to attract higher calibre players in summer though.

Matt Jarvis playing for England? lol

Leave it.

I can't believe I just read that.

Oh, the joys of internet abuse. lol

Well, I was merely trying to point out that apart from the options that Scouse mentioned, there's not a lot of good and/or reliable English LWs around, is there?

I know his recent form is shocking, but Lallana is an attacking midfielder, Rodriguez mainly a striker and not usually deployed as a winger.

I think Walcott was going to be an option upfront as Sturridge has not impressed for England yet, think we've got other options for the wide roles such as Milner, Townsend and Lallana, remember welbeck is nailed on for left mid.

Abuse? Where was the abuse, you are a very sheltered person if you perceive that to be abuse.

Matt Jarvis will never play for England (again), he is terrible.

Townsend and Sterling are raw talents and I would be looking to take both of them to the World Cup, if Lennon can end the season well I wouldn't mind him going on the plane either.

Are we really talking about Sterling, Jarvis, Huddlestone as potential England players?

We really are fcuked, what has happened to the standard of footballer in this country?

Posted

Huddlestone's always been a decent player. Jarvis looked promising at one stage but an attack minded player under Allardyce was never going to work wonders for progression. Sterling isn't nearly ready yet either although he's not bad by any means.

Agree it's looking bleak though in general. The fact Walcott (who really has been so average for England) seems to be considered a huge loss is telling.

You clearly haven't seen Raheem Sterling play recently if you're putting him in the same bracket as Jarvis and Huddlestone.

Sterling has been brilliant in the last two months, started the last 9 games for a team in the top four of the Premier League, no other English winger is starting for another top four side to my knowledge now Walcott is injured. Like I have said he is a raw talent and under Rodgers he is becoming a lot better tactically, he now beats a man and delivers quality and is scoring. Sterling does have a long way to go before he is put in the top bracket of wingers but I am very confident he will be in that bracket, a must for the World Cup for me, in the conditions we will be playing in Brazil, if I was a fullback I would think of nothing worse than 65 minutes gone and you see Raheem Sterling come on the pitch, especially against the Italians.

Oh wait, I shouldn't comment on the Italian national team.

You definitely shouldn't based on the previous nonsense you've spouted about them, correct.

I have to agree, I thought he has a brilliant start to last season when he first broke in the team before tailing off. Seem to have his mojo back this season- I'll take him to Brazil if his form carries on and if he perform well in internationals before WC.
