Guest ttfn Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 You're going on one website to determine a players position? Ok, well Sky Sports say he is a left midfielder? That's how ridiculous this argument can get, face it, he plays from the left, I think even the majority will tell you that. Where did Lallana play when he came on for England recently v Denmark? It wasn't from the left was it? Player maps are going to suggest he plays more in field because he will come inside to allow Luke Shaw to bomb on, have you actually seen Southampton play this season? How Southampton start a game is with Lallana on the left, he will drift in and out, but his position is on the left of an attacking three supporting the striker. I referred to him as a box to box player because that is what I believe he can be, like I have said in a few posts. I do think in the position where he is played right now for Southampton isn't getting the best out of him. I think centrally he would be better, so he can influence games even more, dictate play and contribute more. That's how he can progress, being a glorified winger for Southampton isn't going to help him progress. I wouldn't mind him coming to Liverpool, under Rodgers he could excel. Playing him in the role that Henderson has made his own this season, Lallana would be more than capable of playing that 'box to box' role and add more quality, he would need guiding and adjusting to that role first. I'm not going to dispute that using a website ordinarily is pretty stupid, but given the comprehensive nature of the data on there, I think it represents a pretty neutral and definitive answer on this. Your comment shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the link between player maps and the nominal position assigned to the player (i.e. where they play from) The player maps do not correspond to the nominal position that is assigned to the player for any given game, which is where they play "from". It comes up all the time with Knockaert, where he plays "from the right" but is frequently found on the map to be ahead of the likes of Nugent or what appears from the map to be a central midfield role. As an example, see below the player positions from the Liverpool v Southampton game. Here is Lallana occupying what is on average a central attacking midfield position (click on "player positions") http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/720773/MatchReport/England-Premier-League-2013-2014-Southampton-Liverpool Here is the nominal position he's occupying (ironically in this instance at the left of a front 3, as you've suggested). http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/720773/Live/England-Premier-League-2013-2014-Southampton-Liverpool I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure Southampton set up with Rodriguez on the left, Davis/Ramirez on the right and Lallana in more of a free role? Although I do also believe he has now been pushed out to more of the coming in off the left role as mentioned post-Rodriguez's injury. You're not wrong, except Ramirez hasn't played much. Sorry for everybody who has had to read this tedium, I'm going to leave it now - it's not important if Coutinho is better than Lallana or not. I was just trying to make a point that the respective abilities of the England and Liverpool teams is not a million miles apart. Nobody seemed interested in it anyway.

One Legged Beaver Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard, Hazard, Toure and Lallana are the nominees for player of the year. Pretty hard to argue with that although there could be a case for Lallana to be replaced with Rooney or maybe someone else. I would imagine Suarez would win this award at a canter.

I think Lallana is there on merit. Don't think Rooney has been great this year, certainly not one of the leagues top 6 players.

Danno Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 What's everyone's team of the year? Mines: Marshall Coleman Skrtel Terry Shaw Lallana Gerrard Toure Hazard Sturridge Suarez Bench: Cahill, Baines, Rooney, Lukaku, Sterling, Henderson, Zabaletta

Mines: Marshall Coleman Skrtel Terry Shaw Lallana Gerrard Toure Hazard Sturridge Suarez Bench: Cahill, Baines, Rooney, Lukaku, Sterling, Henderson, Zabaletta I'd probably replace Skrtel in the first team with Cahill. Skrtel may have scored a few goals but he has been very lacking defensively with numerous cock ups and own goals this season. I would probably replace either Baines or Zabaleta with Mignolet as well. Apart from that I'd say it is pretty much bang on though!

foxfanazer Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Marshall Ivanovic C. Davies Cahill Shaw Lallana Toure Gerrard Hazard Suarez Sturridge
Fox92 Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Koscielny has had a decent season too. As has Mertesaker imo.
Stuliasz Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 "Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure thinks he is not regarded as one of the best players in the world because he is from Africa." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27074317 Personally think he has been recognised as one of the best players for some of his performances this season. Not sure what else he expects.
Stadt Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 He's the best (central) midfielder in the world at the minute in my opinion.

One Legged Beaver Posted 19 April 2014 Posted 19 April 2014 Anyone else hear Sherwood's comments on Sandro in the post match interview? Absolutely fantastic!

Fox92 Posted 19 April 2014 Posted 19 April 2014 He's the best (central) midfielder in the world at the minute in my opinion. Not for me. Looked very average against Barcelona - a quality side. Best midfielder is Schweinsteiger in my opinion.
Stadt Posted 19 April 2014 Posted 19 April 2014 Not for me. Looked very average against Barcelona - a quality side. Best midfielder is Schweinsteiger in my opinion. I've not seen a lot of Schweinsteiger this season but he's certainly one of the best, but individually Yaya has been insane.
ScouseFox Posted 19 April 2014 Posted 19 April 2014 What did he say? something like when he was asked why sandro wasn't in the team, was he dropped/rested/injured he just went "he's not good enough so he's not playing". pretty blunt. an interesting way of going about managing but much like his coat throwing arm waving pointless shouting etc it just makes him look a bit like a tit
One Legged Beaver Posted 19 April 2014 Posted 19 April 2014 What did he say? A video hasn't been uploaded on the BBC site yet but Sandro pre match posted on twitter "Good morning Guys, just to let you know that i'm not injured !" in response to not being in the starting XI. And then when asked about it in the post match interview he just bluntly said "He's right he's not injured, he's just not good enough to be in my team." Edit: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27087013 That basically, about 2:30 in.
