Sleep Paralysis

Recommended Posts

Posted

think I've had it a few times. I've woke up and been unable to move my legs. I have to go back to sleep or physically move them for about 5 minutes. There was once where I woke up and my whole body couldn't move, was horrible. I'd had a horrid dream, woke up and just couldn't move, I was aware of what was happening but couldn't move for a good 30 seconds.

Yes I suffer from this, probably every month or so, so I'm due another one any time now!

I know when it's about to happen and the fear you feel is immense!

Usually it starts for me with a knocking sound, getting louder and louder. I try to open my eyes but it just isn't happening.

One time , I felt this HUGE sense of fear and could feeling something in my space (hairs are up on my arms thinking about it), after hearing this noise get louder and louder I moved my eyes slightly to the left, to see an old women's face looking at me with the weirdest expression on her face within 3 CM's from my face, looking directly at me. For the next 3 seconds the fear was immense. I managed to wake up and my heart was pounding so fast I could feel it pumping out my stomach!!

Another time I could hear someone walking up the steps stair by stair getting louder and faster, again, I glanced to the right (right next to the door) , and the door creaked and swung open with a strange man just smiling at me.

I have many stories of this, and my brother suffers with it too.

It's hard to explain to people who have never had it, but I really can't explain how scary it is when it happens and the real sense of fear you get while it happens. It makes you not want to go back sleep when it does happen put it that way.

I have found that sleeping on your back causes this for me, and when it's about to happen (you know as you try open your eyes, even though it looks like your awake but they stay firmly shut) that wiggling your toes gets you out of it sometimes too!!!

Wouldn't wish it on anyone it's a serious mind ****

The people who see old women and shit, are you sure the whole thing including the sleep paralysis isn't all a dream?

I get sleep paralysis quite often but never this great fear. I'll wake up, realise that I'm locked up and so just go back to sleep. I reckon it probably happens more than I remember because it's such a non-event that I don't remember it by morning.

It sure would. Sleep paralysis is a proper concious physical thing though isn't it? Like the guy above whose friends came into the room. Whereas dreaming about having sleep paralysis must be a different problem altogether

No it's not a dream. When it happened to me I thought I was dreaming at first until but believe me you are wide awake.

When the old hag visited me for the last time it was so real, more realer than someone coming in and offering you a cup of tea in the morning. You can feel their breath on your face and unbelievable weight on your chest, crushing.

Like I said before, she came in once and my fear turned to anger and unfortunately (for her) my alarm went off just when she was doing her thing. I knew from that point on she would never visit again and she hasn't. Although I have had the paralysis since, just no murderous witch.

Mate. I suffer from the same as you, I had a women in my face within a few CM's of looking to my right!

At that point the fear was so much, my heart was beating so fast, and that 5 seconds that I we had direct eye to eye contact felt like minutes!

At that point you somehow manage to snap out of that moment in the sleep paralysis, and effectively at that point your whole body is awake.

When it is happening it feels as if your whole body is awake and what you are seeing is really happen, and you think it's a real person , when in fact if someone else was in the room there is nothing there, it's all in ours heads.

But I agree if us scary and you do feel fear and anger

I've never seen anything, but often feel like I'm being held down, usually by whatever I was dreaming about, so whether it is someone holding me down, snakes or a falling tree. When I wake up I know I'm in my bed, although my head is a bit fuzzy, but I still feel like I'm being held down.

To get over it I normally have to twist my body over, it takes a while but once you get some sensation back you can twist your body over and it all comes back.

Apparently we will all experience it in our lifetime too.

Trying to explain it to people who have never had it makes you sound a bit mental lol!

My missus thinks I'm going crazy lol!

I may have had it when I recently went into hospital. Thought it was the pills.

I had wierd dreams and people were telling me not to take the pills which for a couple of nights I hid them and never swallowed. Same with the food, only eat certain food and drinks. One day I wadered out of the ward somehow.

I may have had bad dreams in the past but nothing like those mentioned above.

This sort of thing would also explain peoples' religious experiences and encounters with demons etc.

In my dream because of me the whole hospital had to be evacuated. I was burping emitting a bad odour. My family were speaking through the walls to try and rescue me.

Would make a great plot for a horror film.

The dreams seemed so real I believed they were happening. Like I said it may have been pills and drugs I was on. A lot of anti-biotics. After a few days I was fine and took what I was given which helped me recover.

So you actually have hallucinations and visions while you're still awake?

Yeah your mind is fully awake but your body is fully asleep still. The old hag is totally unexplainable because you try and think rationally "this can't be real" but you think - that's weird, I can hear their footsteps coming towards me, I can feel the weight of the bed going down as they get ready to climb on top of you. You then feel them climb on top of you and it feels exactly like I would if some fat heffer was doing it.

Crazy shit.

Woah.

It's weird that a lot of people seem to suffer from it but I never knew it existed.

This is something slightly different called hypnagogic or hypnapompic hallucination; a state of awakeness accompanied by imagery or sound experienced when falling asleep (hypnagogia) or waking up (hypnapompia). May or may not be accompanied by sleep paralysis.

Ive had this once before and yeah like others said, it really isn't nice.

I didnt see or hear anything but I woke up lying on my back and immediately thought I needed to breathe.  But i just couldnt make myself take a breath in at all and I really started to panic but couldnt move anything apart from my eyes.  Then eventually I took a really big gasp of air and it woke me up properly.  Heart was absolutely pounding!  Whole thing probably lasted 15 seconds at best.  But its the longest 15 seconds I've ever had!

I purposely get sleep paralysis most nights its the best platform to 'ASTRAL PROJECT' Will sound mad to most and only until you learn to do it yourself will you understand.

Not gonna say anymore as this isn't the right forum to talk about this sort of stuff

I have had this occasionally. Not nice at all. Usually, like Kyle, it only seems to happens if I start off sleeping on my back. using your will or chi to force your body into movement makes it all go away.

In my "dream" it is the devil rather than an old hag. One of my daughters gets these night terrors as well, for a while she just didn't want to go to bed it was so scary.
