Sleep Paralysis

Recommended Posts

Apparently we will all experience it in our lifetime too.

Trying to explain it to people who have never had it makes you sound a bit mental lol!

My missus thinks I'm going crazy lol!

Its there for a reason :)

I heard years ago that if you were dreaming that you were falling off a skyscraper (or anything high) that if you landed you wouldn't wake up. The shock would kill you. Not sure if it's been proved.

Not quite sure how it COULD be proved?

Closest I get to it is those dreams where I walk along and step down an unseen kerb.

As I stumble in the dream I usually "jump" (sometimes quite violently) in real life and it wakes me up. Sometimes in the dream I know I'm about to trip too and know I'm about to wake up but can't stop myself.

Not like this paralysis though, that sounds horrific.

I purposely get sleep paralysis most nights its the best platform to 'ASTRAL PROJECT' Will sound mad to most and only until you learn to do it yourself will you understand.

Not gonna say anymore as this isn't the right forum to talk about this sort of stuff

Someone's been reading Dennis Wheatley books!

I sometimes wake up in massive shock, sweating with my heart beating, usually after falling or making a bad decision in a dream (Yes I know you cant control them).

The best one of them I had, was when I was sleeping in hostel dorm, bottom bunk, and in my dream a snake had bitten the sole of my shoe, and I was shaking my leg to get it off and I kicked the top bunk really hard, fvcking hurt that did, smashed my toe right against the wooden slats.

I've had this a few times, last time was a few weeks ago. I never get bad dreams, I just wake up and can't move or breath. I try and breath then just as I really start to panic because I think I'm about to suffocate I wake up. It's quite common.

I watched a program once that explained like someone else said it's all to do with waking up from R.E.M sleep. Because when you enter REM sleep your body produces a drug which paralyses you. But sometimes you wake up and the paralysing drug is still in your system. It affects some people differently eg sleep-walkers don't always produce the paralysing drug which is why they walk around.

Even when you know what it is after you've woken up it's weird because your bodies enters a fight or flight reaction and you panic - but you actually know there's no need to be scared.

Had this happen to me last month,

I woke up around 3am (i wake up almost every night at silly o'clock) checked my phone and fell straight back sleep, as i was pretty much asleep all i hear is this horrific screeching sound to which woke me up and i looked at the end of my bed to see a huge dark figure with long hair looking at me with its head tilted sidewards, i couldn't move or anything, i even tried to shout my dad but i couldn't get any sound out, i then woke up to see nothing there. I have never felt fear like it in my life, sends a shiver down my spine thinking about it now, felt so realistic. I literally couldn't get back to sleep that night, it scared me that much i had to put my light on and go back sleep. A truly terrifying experience.

I suffer with this also. It can be terrifying. But there are times also when there is no demon type thing there in the room OR sitting on my chest . The London sleep clinic told me that it was a form of narcolepsy ..they wanted me to come down and do a sleep study but when I was told I had to pay for it , I cancelled. They did however explain to me it is often linked to stressful situations in life

My most recent event was when I was getting ready to meet up with friends in the evening, I thought I would catch an afternoon nap. For me it would always happen when I had afternoon naps and at the time of going to sleep- very rarely when I was waking up...

Well I was just dozing off and I felt this 'thing' where I knew I had just slipped into the sleep paralysis thing.... I was trying to hard to wake up.. I could JUST see underneath my eyelids but I could only see the light - my eyes wouldn't look down... I remember trying so hard to open my eyes... I then heard the knock on my door.. my friend was there waiting for me... luckily I left my door on the latch as I often listen to music but had the music switched off to nap..... I was trying so hard to call out to them but I just couldn't make a sound..... they cam into my house as they know I was expecting them and were calling out my name but couldn't find me. I was asleep on the sofa when they found me and I heard them come in the room but still could not open my eyes... they just said what's wrong? as they could tell by my face something was wrong... all through this there were times I stopped breathing and couldn't get a breath of air ( or so it felt like).. They just kept saying " Matt, Matt... what's wrong? what's wrong?" and I was trying so hard to open my eyes but couldn't. My face the whole time I found out later was all contorted like I was struggling... eventually my eyes just flicked open and I immediately felt their hands on my arm.. She said that she had been shaking me the whole time trying to wake me up... I could hear every word they said and every creek of the floor board around the house as they were looking for me but I didn't feel them shaking me until my eyes just flicked open.

Wow this is fvcking scary!! This has happened to me so many times since i was a kid. The worse experiences of it is when i rented a house in aylestone (people would come round and say how spooky it felt and that it was haunted lol , dont believe in that shit) and nearly every nite/morning this would happen. It got to the stage where i asked the missus to wake me if i nod off. Ive explained and asked many of people and they have "never heard of it" so i thought it was just me. This has not happened for a few years now but its horrible!! You lay there completely awake but completely paralysed. You try opening your eyes, moving your arms and legs and nothing happens . You can feel yourself trying to move but nothing happens. Its just a case of keep fighting until you wake. I feel for you honest!!

I know someone who suffered from this, it used to occur more vividly and frequently in days following ecstasy/MDMA use.

I have never been a drug user myself....

Something very strange happened last night, something very similar to this. I had the same situation  but under different circumstances.

I was in bed, in a kind of hypnotic state, probably an early state of sleep. However unlike many people have described it wasn't terrifying, there wasn't a dark presence in the room. It was very peaceful. In fact I'm pretty sure I heard some kind of tune of some sort playing. I was conscientious, but felt away from the body, almost spaced out.

Then there was a loud pop. It was right next to my face. I snapped out of this state, jolted it up and looked around. Nothing there. I listened carefully outside. No one outside either. However I knew it couldn't of been outside, as I felt a stream of air as soon as the pop happened. Like a balloon had popped in my face. Obviously there was nothing there and I have no idea what caused it.

I may have to bring it up in my Psychology class next year

I can do an excorcism for £225 +VAT if anyone's interested. Expect bruising.

Demons can be right bastards to get rid of; but nothing that a few choke slams, several buckets of water and some choice words can't handle.

Apparently Beckford suffered from this most Saturday afternoons between 3-5pm? (cmon, someone had to say it :) )

seriously - Good luck to those who suffer hope you work out how best to manage it.
