ealingfox Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff says he would consider selling Lionel Messi following the arrival of Brazil star Neymar if he was still in charge at the Nou Camp. The Dutchman, who coached the Catalan giants to four league titles and a European Cup in the 1990s, doubts whether the pair will be successful working in tandem. "With Neymar on board, I would have planned for the possibility of selling Messi, and some would agree with that, others not," says the three-time World Player of the Year, who also made 184 appearances for the Catalan giants in the 1970s. "If the pairing works, its will be formidable, undoubtedly," the Dutchman tells Spanish newspaper Marca. "We'll have to wait and see - it could turn out well or badly. It's a risk. Would I have taken the risk? No, I wouldn't have signed Neymar." Gary Lineker â€@GaryLineker1h “@BBCSport: Johan Cruyff says he'd consider selling Lionel Messi after Neymar’s arrival at Barca < Always did get rid of his best players Not as outrageous as the BBC originally made out, but to entertain any considerations about selling Messi, particularly if it were to make room for Neymar, is surely outrageous? Sell probably the best player of all time as he comes into his peak years? If it didn't work out surely Neymar would be moved on.
Fox92 Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 He is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) players ever; a very complete midfielder. He can say anything he wants.
Dan Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 He is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) players ever; a very complete midfielder. He can say anything he wants. We're all fellow human beings. We can call him for talking out his arse whenever we want.
Kitchandro Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 I don't get why it wouldn't work out. Why can't two great players play in the same team?
Fox92 Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 We're all fellow human beings. We can call him for talking out his arse whenever we want. Obviously. I was joking slightly, but I guess he's talking about them being similar.
Kitchandro Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 He is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) players ever; a very complete midfielder. He can say anything he wants. Gary wasn't a midfielder
ealingfox Posted 25 June 2013 Author Posted 25 June 2013 I don't get why it wouldn't work out. Why can't two great players play in the same team? Agreed. It's not like they play the same position, in fact Neymar plays where Barcelona are possibly weakest.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 I don't get why it wouldn't work out. Why can't two great players play in the same team? Wellens and Gallagher?
Fox92 Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Everytime I've seen Neymar, he's been average (maybe below average) anyway so it will be interesting to see how he plays outside Brazil regardless.
theessexfox Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Agreed. It's not like they play the same position, in fact Neymar plays where Barcelona are possibly weakest. Neymar plays at the back?
ealingfox Posted 25 June 2013 Author Posted 25 June 2013 Neymar plays at the back? Yeah probably should have qualified that; going forward. Left forward.
Dan Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Everytime I've seen Neymar, he's been average (maybe below average) anyway so it will be interesting to see how he plays outside Brazil regardless. I think Neymar's over-rated but every time you've seen him? Really? He'll never be the level of Messi but some of the things he can do with the ball are incredible.

He'll never be the level of Messi but some of the things he can do with the ball are incredible. Oh yeah, but I've only seen him a couple of times Seen him against England (twice) and recall watching him in a club game but can't remember what match. I don't watch European Football other than when a team from England plays in the European Cup (and the final itself). I agree some things he can do with a ball are amazing, but I hate it how everyone is like 'he is the best player in the World' after watching 2 or 3 minutes off him on YouTube. We'll have to wait to see if he can actually make a World Cup his own like all the greatest players do (apart from Best who obviously never had that chance).
Finnegan Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 He is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) players ever; a very complete midfielder. He can say anything he wants. Do you only bum things that happened long before you were born?

Scored an excellent goal in all 3 Confed Cup group games.
Fox92 Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Do you only bum things that happened long before you were born? Yes I was joking with the 'he can say anything he wants' bit. I wouldn't say 'bum things', but in terms of music and sometimes football, I'd say I'm more interested in them, yes.

I agree with that part, he's got a reputation meaning loads of people start foaming at the mouth over everything he does. He's obviously a huge talent but that's all at the moment.
Finnegan Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Anyone who doesn't understand the Neymar hype hasn't seen enough of him. End of. Have you seen any of the Confederations Cup?
Guest MattP Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Anyone who doesn't understand the Neymar hype hasn't seen enough of him. End of. Have you seen any of the Confederations Cup? Disagree. He has been fantastic in this but he has been woeful in the Copa Libertadores when I've watched him, the Corinthians defence last year gave a perfect example of how to deal with him. Great talent no doubt, the hype isn't justified yet though. Let's see what he's got when the Uruguayans get hold of him tomorrow.
Fox92 Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Anyone who doesn't understand the Neymar hype hasn't seen enough of him. End of. Have you seen any of the Confederations Cup? As I said, no I haven't. But is he one of the greatest players ever, as some suggest? I'll be able to form a proper opinion of him after I watch the World Cup next year. See if he is any good on the biggest stage of them all.
purpleronnie Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 I don't understand why some don't rate him. Is he the best player in the world?... No. Is he as good as messi and ronaldo?...Probably not. Is he a very good player? and could he become the best in the world?...yes. Is it irritating when someone ask's questions and also answers them?...yes.
Guest MattP Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 When some people are saying you should sell Messi to accomodate a different player in a football team they can automatically be called 'over-rated' as far as I'm concerned.

I'll be able to form a proper opinion of him after I watch the World Cup next year. See if he is any good on the biggest stage of them all. I've never seen anyone of any note ever call him one of the greatest ever. Whether little children who play too much FIFA have, I don't know, I don't talk to them. The vast majority of both intelligent people I know and the press rate him as a huge talent with potential to go far in the game who's a little bit raw and a little bit lightweight. When some people are saying you should sell Messi to accomodate a different player in a football team they can automatically be called 'over-rated' as far as I'm concerned. Cruyff actually said he wouldn't have signed Neymar.
Jaspa Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Ive never really liked Neymar I think the first time I saw him in a match he was playing a Brazilian League/Cup match and was acting like a little spoilt brat, falling over all over the place with a grimace on his face, mouthing off to anyone he happened to fall over and the ref. That was a few years ago tho From what I can tell he seems to have stepped up to this stage and has managed the limelight pretty well in the last few months, he has talent that is rare at the moment at that level of football and people seem to think there is something special about him. Im not 100% convinced but I guess time will tell
