AKCJ Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Always thought he was over rated. True he's having a decent tournament now but i'll reserve judgement till he plays European football. Cruyff is talking out of his arse.
Fox92 Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Cruyff is talking out of his arse. He actually said he wouldn't have signed Neymar, but now he has signed... http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12040/8792642/Johan-Cruyff-believes-Barcelona-should-plan-for-possibility-of-selling-Lionel-Messi The article titles as always, are misleading slightly. That article from Sky makes a point about Messi never getting on with strike partners who were then sold (Zlatan, E'to) or lost their first team place (Villa).

Zlatan and Eto'o are more egotistical footballers than Messi. I'd argue it's the other way around in that the former couldn't, and wouldn't compete with the latter (hence they were sold). As for Messi and VIlla not getting on... Neymar doesn't striker me as the kind of footballer would struggle to get on with players like Messi but then again, he only ever been the 'big fish' with Brazil and Santos so only time will tell.

A Brazilian and an Argie up front together both thinking they are the best in the World? Nothing can go wrong there.
Tincy Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 I don't get why it wouldn't work out. Why can't two great players play in the same team? Gerrard and Lampard
Guest BlueBrett Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 He is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) players ever; a very complete midfielder. He can say anything he wants. Ahh the Roy Keane defence. Doesn't wash with me I'm afraid. Bullshit is Bullshit

Don't think he fell out with Eto'o, Eto'o was just sold stupidly by the Club as part of the Ibrams deal. Ibrams was unfortunate because Messi developed into a 'false nine' style forward rather than the wide right he had been before Ibrams joined, and he quite rightly had to be sacrificed eventually. Villa just broke his leg badly.
Kitchandro Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Gerrard and Lampard Rubbish. Lampard never played well for England, regardless of whether Gerrard was in the team or not. Likewise Gerrard was one of England's better players in the years when we were so disappointing.
Bayfox Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 his actual point was more that the club president has made this signing to make a statement and prove a point and neymar is now like the teachers pet. so now selling messi would make sense from a ffp point of view, from messi's point of view ie not putting his nose out of joint to accomodate neymar and to avoid a coach having to fit both players in. having never really got the neymar hype until the last few weeks. i think the prospect of them in the same side. maybe with keegan as manager would be awesome. however. thiago, neymar is decent. then sell messi and have 200million to buy a defence? i could see the logic.
KFS Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Would've loved to have seen Neymar in the Prem doing his signature move, standing infront of Huth for the third time trying to take the piss, then WHAM.. Game over football's Justin Beiber!
Tom17LCFC Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Rubbish. Lampard never played well for England, regardless of whether Gerrard was in the team or not. Likewise Gerrard was one of England's better players in the years when we were so disappointing. I'm sorry but that's quite clearly bollocks. You don't score 29 goals for your country by 'never playing well'.
Samilktray Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Pretty disrespectful to Neymar, talking about Steven Gerrard in a thread about Neymar.
theessexfox Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Pretty disrespectful to Neymar, talking about Steven Gerrard in a thread about Neymar. By the end of both of their careers, Gerrard will have had the better one.

Finnegan Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 By the end of both of their careers, Gerrard will have had the better one. lol lol lol lol !!!!!! If you take away one night in Istanbul, Steven Gerrard's career is the biggest flop in sport. For all of his alleged quality he's done relatively **** all, never gone to test himself at a proper club. Neymar's probably going to win a league title next year, La Liga at that. How many times has Stevie G won the Prem?
Guest MattP Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 Pretty disrespectful to Neymar, talking about Steven Gerrard in a thread about Neymar. Neymar shouldn't even be mentioned alongside Messi yet either. In fact he's still behind his South American counterparts Falcao, Saurez, Cavani and Rodriguez at the minute.
Kitchandro Posted 25 June 2013 Posted 25 June 2013 I'm sorry but that's quite clearly bollocks. You don't score 29 goals for your country by 'never playing well'. You do if you take a load of penalties. Maybe never played well was harsh. He was shit from 2006 onwards. Lampard has always been better for England than Gerrard
The Horse's Mouth Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Neymar > Messi. Probably pays his taxes too. You are on coke.
Fox92 Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Gerrard is the only player ever to score in a European Cup final, an FA Cup final, a League Cup final and a Europa League cup final (that year when McAllister played). He hasn't won as many trophies some players have (players that aren't even better than him), but he has done what he wanted in playing for, and then being made captain, for the club he supported as a boy. When I define loyalty, I can look at Steve Gerrard. Around the 05/06 time, he was the best midfielder in the World, and most of the major clubs (Munich, Madrid, Barcelona etc) wanted him. Even Alex Ferguson wanted him to replace Keane, and Mourinho wanted him at Chelsea when they were Champions in England. He is an example of the complete midfielder, and there won't be better midfielders in my lifetime. (I do like Lampard, but he isn't as complete as a midfielder as Gerrard. Although he might score more). People always say 'oh yeah ha Gerrard hasn't got a Premier League medal'. This is, of course, correct. But he's played in two European Cup finals, and scored in one. Shearer and Fabregas don't have PL medals either. ... But this is why I love football. Everyone has a different opinion. This is why we have forums and arguments in the pub!
Fox92 Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Ahh the Roy Keane defence. Doesn't wash with me I'm afraid. Bullshit is Bullshit I said it was a joke. I even put it twice.
Darkon84 Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 It's simple really. When Gerrard's career is over, he will look back and regret not leaving Liverpool to a bigger club and actually winning more. Anyone that says differently is having a laugh!

Anyone that says differently is having a laugh! Why do you say that? I should think he's been really proud to play for his boyhood club. Let's not forget he has won the Champions League and his performance in that game will be remembered for a long time. He will be an all time hero for his club and to a real football fan that is greater than winning any single trophy.

Let's not forget he has won the Champions League and his performance in that game will be remembered for a long time. He will be an all time hero for his club and to a real football fan that is greater than winning any single trophy. This is true. He did nearly leave when he thought the club valued money more than they did him. Look, I'm a massive Gerrard fan and on one of his dvd's he says he could have easily moved but when he moves back to live in Liverpool, who's he going to show his medals to? I think it's good that he's achieved what he has at Liverpool. The only thing he hasn't got at club level is a PL but, as I say many times, I wouldn't really care that much if I was him considering he turned a European Cup final around (scored in it, and won it) and that FA Cup final against West Ham which is known as 'the Gerrard final'.
