yorkie1999 Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 It's basically been three identical matches- they win the toss, put on a decent score, bowl us out well below par, pile on the runs second innings (Swann has been smashed to all parts, extremely worrying) then we fall well short. I just hope we bat long into tomorrow, make them work for the five wickets. I don't, because if they do people will start looking at the positives of the England team which, to be honest, there arn't any.
Uncle Albert Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 Ben Stokes has been the only positive for me.
Donut Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 Ben Stokes has been the only positive for me. Agreed. Think Carberry has managed to get himself a start in a few innings but hasnt kicked on and made a score. Broad WAS a positive with the ball, but even thats probably gone now
Corky Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 I don't, because if they do people will start looking at the positives of the England team which, to be honest, there arn't any. Fair enough, but I'd rather see them show some of the fight and "pride" they've talked about and give people who've spent thousands getting there some effort. Yes Australia have improved but not to the extent that they are 500 runs ahead of us after two innings THREE Tests in a row.
Uncle Albert Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 We have made Australia look better than they were in the 90's, we just haven't competed and at the end of the day they've wanted it more than our lads. 1-11 have wanted it more! You can't win Test matches the way we have bowled and especially the way we have batted, to not have a batsman score a hundred in 6 innings in Ashes Cricket is shocking, I know Stokes can avenge that but still.. If we go on to lose this Test that we more than likely will then I hope changes are rung, can't see Broad continuing, I would rest Prior and would even consider dropping Anderson for a Test.
Donut Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 we need to cut Jimmy a bit of slack, hes world class, one bad tour doesnt make him a bad bowler. Hes not getting anything from the ball, but conditions havent favoured him either
Uncle Albert Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 I've not suggested he is a bad bowler? I just think he needs dropping for a Test, he's missing the ODIs for a rest, if this Series ends in a few hours I would consider letting him have a Test off. This tour hasn't been great, the conditions aren't the factor either. Same for all the bowlers out there, Siddle hasn't struggled, yeah there hasn't been the greatest of swing in the first three Tests but Harris, Siddle, Johnson and Lyon have found ways to take 20 wickets.

Hes not getting anything from the ball, but conditions havent favoured him either Whilst i agree i wouldn't drop Jimmy, he is your best bowler. I wouldn't be blaming the conditions as it hasn't effected Harris and Johnson also Broad in the first test. For him to be a truly world class bowler he needs to be able to bowl well outside of the UK regularly.
Alexikokopops Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 we need to cut Jimmy a bit of slack, hes world class, one bad tour doesnt make him a bad bowler. Hes not getting anything from the ball, but conditions havent favoured him either In a match where the Aussies have been getting LBWs and bowling us we've not even been bowling at the stumps (in our first 50 overs bowled only 11 balls would have gone on to hit the stumps). I know it's the WACA but there's been so much short stuff that they've not given it a chance to move in the air! In our first innings the Aussies got movement (when conditions were the same as 1.5 if their innings) where as we didn't seem to manage any. That's ignoring any movement off the cracks. I'm not saying he's crap, and our failings have largely been with the bat, but the bowling attack does need to shoulder some blame. We should definitely have been more ruthless in their first innings. As an aside, I'm still not sure I've recovered from Anderson's over to Bailey. Which, actually, reminds me of something else. KP, if you're going to try and spank a hooning 6, do it WITH the Doctor (like Bailey and Watson) and not against it. When a wind has it's own name it usually blows pretty regularly, and in the same direction. Take note.
Guest MattP Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Stokes is a huge prospect but it's hard to argue this was the right time to bring him in at number six. Certainly a fixture in the side though from now on. Tonight is huge for Matt Prior, I genuinely think he is playing for his international career as once he loses his spot just think they will go with someone else for a considerable amount of time. A for the tour everyone takes some blame, Broad and Stokes can hold their heads high, every other from Flower to Cook to Anderson needs to take a long hard look at themselves.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Wow the crack near the stumps is huge, the batter might lose his foot down it.

The Prior thing upsets me the most. He was probably my favourite player a year ago with his consistent batting, and his ability to up the tempo and take the game away from another team, even if it meant sacrificing his wicket. All with solid keeping to back it up. This test in particular has been particularly sad, because as well as his failed batting he's also failed with the gloves and I wonder how long we can accommodate him. Not that I'm saying he should be dropped instantly but we have to be looking at the alternatives. I'm not sure who they are, mind. Wow the crack near the stumps is huge, the batter might lose his foot down it. What props are they using today, so far I've seen keys, iPhones, and hands down that crack
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 The late Tony Greig would of loved it. Reminds me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRhuuPTiWOI
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Snacks at the ready and off my tits on energy drink. Had a cheeky wager (an embarrassingly small one) at 14/1 on England to win this test. Yep...I've lost the plot. Only 253 runs needed. We're half way to the required total with half our wickets left - I'd say we're judging it perfectly
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Aussies are on the run. Bashing 'em all over the WACA. Looks like my £1 is safe Down to less than 3 an over required now. Only 241 needed
Guest MattP Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Frustrating that, some real fight this morning than another waft outside off stump.
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Frustrating that, some real fight this morning than another waft outside off stump. Did you see Johnson's tumble near the boundary? Ouch!!
Tom17LCFC Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Did you see Johnson's tumble near the boundary? Ouch!! Shame he didn't break his leg!
Guest MattP Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Did you see Johnson's tumble near the boundary? Ouch!! Reminded me of Simon Jones! Cringed watching it. Take a bow Ben Stokes, top class knock.
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 England's odds on winning have dropped from 14/1 at start of play today to 13/2. Come on England - only 176 more needed. I started a bit tongue in cheek but I'm beginning to think we could actually pull this off
Guest MattP Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Brilliant first session. If we can bat until tea we'll be close. Still a long shot but you never know
Guest MattP Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 It's mid week most Australians have jobs There must be 2,000 Aussies max in the ground, in England we would easily fill a ground on a weekdayon the verge of winning as ashes series. Take a day off, ring in sick, students, kids, self employed, pensioners. Where are they? It's an absolutely pathetic turnout. Embarrassing.
Guest MattP Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Was his while it lasted. Congratulations Australia, best side won by a mile.
