marko Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 Only England could lose from that position. Couldn't even hit a boundary the ball towards the end Fixed Seemed like every other delivery was a swing and a miss.
purpleronnie Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 same old same old somehow we manage to **** it up, you'd think we'd learn.
Corky Posted 2 March 2014 Posted 2 March 2014 Anyone been watching the ODI against the Windies? Absolutely appalling to lose this from the position we were in. I heard them talking about "positives". Positives = bollocks excuses for results under new regime compared to old. The rest of can see that in six one-dayers since Flower left, half of them have been tossed away from dominant positions.

Agreed, I heard Broad coming out and almost praising the performance, when you hear the Aussies or South Africans even when they win they will be critical, we rarely criticise even when we lose. We really need to change the mentality.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 3 March 2014 Posted 3 March 2014 Graham Smith has now announced his retirement, so many careers ending whilst or straight after we have played them.
cambridgefox Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 Graham Smith has now announced his retirement, so many careers ending whilst or straight after we have played them. The way Warner is batting expect some bowlers to retire next as much as I dislike him( root)he is a class above at the moment.Good to watch.
Corky Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Unbearable. That said Boof is still in a honeymoon period, maintaining being a top side is often harder than becoming one as we found out. Not a bad honeymoon period, won in South Africa now
Guest MattP Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Not a bad honeymoon period, won in South Africa now Incredible result and they are the best in the World without a doubt now. Clarke got away with one today mind, that was a terrible declaration, he needed nowhere near 500 and serious questions would have been asked had Harris not pulled it out for them. Fearful thing is the batting line up could be far stronger, stil has a couple of holes in it.
Voll Blau Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 And yet the ICC deems that series to be only worth three Tests? Ridiculous state of affairs.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 SA have never beaten Oz at home since their re-admission to cricket. Still don't think they're all that, plus half the team retires in 2 years.
marko Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 It's a shame Kallis didn't stick around for this series. People talk about Johnson, but Harris is the lynchpin of that attack - very, very fine bowler
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Harris is a freak, if he was a race horse he would of been put down a long time ago. Personally 420 was what I thought we would declare at but we still had plenty of time. Credit to the Saffas who defended well in the 2nd dig. Had to laugh when FAF went out and the boys barked at him like dogs after day 2 when he called us all a pack of dogs.
Corky Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 See, there are real positives for England- winning matches. Could've been achieved a little sooner if Bresnan had bowled yorkers instead of banging it halfway down for half an over.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 Joe Root is finally making good on all that potential! Cracking knock, excellently supported by Buttler too. Think all England's ODI bowlers should have "Bowl full at the death" tattooed under their eyelids though.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 I've noticed in the last couple of ODIs you have used 8 bowlers is this the norm or a new tactic?
Captain... Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 I've noticed in the last couple of ODIs you have used 8 bowlers is this the norm or a new tactic? We are in a transition period, so it isn't the norm, and I don't know if it will be the norm going forwards, but on the slow turning pitches we have a lot of batsmen who can throw a few overs of spin down, Broad has been receiving a lot of plaudits for his captaincy, attacking aggresive fields and willingness to try something different, like opening the bowling with Root. 3 of those 8 bowlers bat in the top 4, Moeen is new to the squad and only bowls the odd over, just to break things up. Whether he would do the same on a fast bouncy track, I don't know, but it was probably more to do with the conditions than a new 8 man attack approach.
purpleronnie Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 It's so odd watching England, we bowl well then bat terribly, bat well and bowl terribly. Yesterday's game was mind boggling to watch, despite the windies smashing our short balls for boundary after boundary we refused to change it...eventually when the match somehow became in the balance we bowl straight and pick up the wicket. But we did win...somehow.
Guest MattP Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 I've noticed in the last couple of ODIs you have used 8 bowlers is this the norm or a new tactic? CPF explained it well. Not to mention the West Indies now produce pitches that wouldn't look out of place in Pakistan.
Captain... Posted 18 March 2014 Posted 18 March 2014 Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but the Trott incident, I started watching the Trott interview at the weekend, then just switched it off as it was embarrassing, I was expecting some heartfelt insight into his mental issues. Instead I got a load of guff about burn out. I'm with Vaughan on this one, the statement they realised was a con, I don't know if it was to deflect criticism from the team or the from Trott or whatever, but it was made out like he had gone home with depression, but actually he was just off form and burnt out. No shame in it his performances suggested he should be dropped, it happens, why make the statement about mental problems? Very odd.
Guest MattP Posted 18 March 2014 Posted 18 March 2014 Because it's an easy way out. Saves a lot of embarrassment, as I said at the time I didn't buy into this mental/depression thing. He wouldn't have gone home had scored 149 in that first test. Why are we the only country that seems to have these problems as well? You would never seen a Indian go home with depression. Tougher upbringing?
Bobby Hundreds Posted 18 March 2014 Posted 18 March 2014 The whole Indian team tend to leave with depression after getting beat heavily on any tour.
marko Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 It looks like Peter Moores will get another crack with England. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/27082681
