marko Posted 31 January 2014 Posted 31 January 2014 Highlights the fact that Flower is strictly a coach and not good at managing players, hence his new role at the Academy. What a strange thing to say. For some one who isn't good at managing players he's done well to stay around for 5 years and, arguably, preside over the most successful period of English cricket.
Guest MattP Posted 31 January 2014 Posted 31 January 2014 What a strange thing to say. For some one who isn't good at managing players he's done well to stay around for 5 years and, arguably, preside over the most successful period of English cricket. Easily the most successful. Test Series record - P18 W12 D3 L3 - 3 Ashes series wins, away victory in India and our first major international trophy. I hate to see what he could do if he was good at managing players.

I would personally say he's been our best and most successful, but I put the arguably as a bit of an insurance policy, as I was waiting for some smart arse to bring up some obscure statistic from the 1890's to say Flower wasn't the best we've had.
Uncle Albert Posted 31 January 2014 Posted 31 January 2014 I'm not saying Flower wasn't successful, pretty clear he is the most successful coach in my lifetime. What I am suggesting his management of players hasn't been the greatest, yeah I am mainly focusing on KP but he didn't seem to manage KP and also seems Flower couldn't manage a few of the egos that developed within the squad. Stepping down could be the best thing to happen for this current players, a freshen up throughout all forms of cricket.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 31 January 2014 Posted 31 January 2014 K P is trouble and always has been, former team mates call him cock head, he ousted Peter Moores and now Flower has gone after a supposed fall out.
purpleronnie Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 I hope they have a bit of a clear out. We have some great young talent coming up and the whole 'golden era' is over. The Aussies did it, we can too.
marko Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 After that last over and his performances in general, I think it's time to resurrect this old article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/international/england/10094700/Dazzlingly-mediocre-Jade-Dernbach-will-never-get-the-seat-beside-J-Lo-like-Andrew-Flintoff.html
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 In fairness to Wright he's been playing well in the BBL. Well, he was last year, not sure about this year. I'm well on the ball me. Yeah Wright's a gun plays for the Stars, surprised he didn't bowl more for England he can be tough to get away. I've said it before but Dernbach really is a spud!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Just schoolboy error after schoolboy error. They have even carted Hodge and White out of the retirement home and they have us in trouble. Hey fair go! Hodge is still a gun at 39. White is only 30, his been around since he was 16 tho.
Captain... Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 a "gun"? Is that like a Bogun? As for KP, other than getting out cheaply to rash shots, I'm not sure how KP can be blamed, or Flower's handling of KP, cricket is a very solitary game and KP is not the reason why Cook was atrocious at the top, Anderson couldn't even find any swing in the 60s, and Prior went from being the best wicket keeper batsman in the world to the worst. It could be that KP contributed to the pressure that caused Trott to leave the tour, or convinced Swann to retire, but that is completely baseless nonsense, people seem to like blaming KP when things go wrong, even though he was a key factor when things were going right, but, like every other England player, he can only be judged on how he performed on the pitch and whilst it wasn't good enough, it was not responsible for this grim showing in all formats down under.
CKB Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 So would people be happy with Giles in charge? I'm not so sure myself, I think we need a totally new change and not someone that's been around already

I'm not so sure myself, I think we need a totally new change and not someone that's been around already Agree. South Africa V Australia starts tomorrow morning, personal opinion is the Aussies will really be put in their place here by a top class stable and consistent side.

I think Michael Vaughan would be a decent appointment but I fear the ECB will end up going for Giles... Giles imo seems like a yes man and the ECB will like that I'd be shocked if the Aussies beat them, Aussies have improved but no way will they beat a great SA team
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 We wont make enough runs. Absolute green top by the looks of things.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 We wont make enough runs. Absolute green top by the looks of things. That has to be a practice strip?
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Aaron Finch has joined Yorkshire, great signing for them.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Ended up being a bloody good day, 4/297.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 That has to be a practice strip? That's what it looked like 2-3 days out. Didn't end up looking to bad, was plenty of movement for the first session. Standard pitch with Par probably around 400. Aaron Finch has joined Yorkshire, great signing for them. Hope for there sake he doesn't have to play any cricket with a red ball.

He says he hopes to play in all formats and test himself with the red ball, but they do already have Kane Williamson, and are only allowed to play 1 overseas in championship cricket.
Corky Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Don't bother with Giles, give him £5 million a year and get Lehmann in.
