Fox92 Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 A lot of toy/model shops are dying now... Modelzone are in administration as well, and have shut 75% of their stores in the country. I'm a diecast model collector and it's sad to see. It's very hard to find a good toy shop these days. eBay has led to most of the closing imo, not their fault of course, it's just business. I can visit a model shop which has a model priced at £30.00, yet I can log into eBay and get three second hand models for the same price.
Fox92 Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Shame it wasnt Dominoes Pizza What!? Dominos offer a personal £1 pizza during freshers, I practically live off them.
Guesty Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Used to spend hours in that shop. Used to get all my Subbuteo kit from there.
Guest MattP Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Shame, one of the iconic stores of Leicester. As Guesty says, used to buy a lot of Subbuteo teams from there.
Finnegan Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Yes then Subbuteo! The shittest game I've ever been in love with!
Bayfox Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Was expensive in the later years. But i guess its toys r us for my lego and scalextric now.
Webbo Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 A sign of the times. Independent shop are bound to struggle nowadays. I always bought my Subuteo teams from WH Smith.
Webbo Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Somebody told me the other day that Irish have closed down as well. Is that right?
Rincewind Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Thought they had plans to reopen the Arcades? I went by that replacement ink shop (*Silver Street?) the other day. Notice in the window saying the pedestrianization and end of present lease had meant it was difficult to remain open. been there about 11 years.
Finnegan Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Somebody told me the other day that Irish have closed down as well. Is that right? Shit really? I'm near by now, I'll check!
Guest Bilo Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Very sad that, I remember it well as a kid. I used to love going in there with my mum as a little 'un, loved it when I was older as well.
I am Rod Hull Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Somebody told me the other day that Irish have closed down as well. Is that right? Irish was great back in the 80`s/90`s, I used to go to the one in Burton-on-Trent. Anyone remember Zodiac Toys? I loved that place.
Webbo Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Irish was great back in the 80`s/90`s, I used to go to the one in Burton-on-Trent. I got my Harrington jacket and stapress trousers there back in the day. I didn't realise they had shops outside Leicester.
Zingari Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 I got my Harrington jacket and stapress trousers there back in the day. I didn't realise they had shops outside Leicester. You're Johnny Reggae ?
Out Foxed Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Shame, one of the iconic stores of Leicester. As Guesty says, used to buy a lot of Subbuteo teams from there. as did i. that's made me suitably nostalgic and depressed.
Webbo Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 You're Johnny Reggae ? Jonny? Jonny reggae reggae?
Zingari Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Jonny? Jonny reggae reggae? He'll always start a fight for me, he's always on the phone At the dance hall in the evening he'll always take me home In his fringe and buckle stompers and his two-tone tonic strides He's a real tasty geezer an' I'm his here inside they don't write stuff like that anymore
