Captain... Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-24032449 Slightly concerned by this bit: During the eight-day trial Mr Le Vell admitted he had battled "demons" in his private life and that he was an alcoholic, who would drink up to nine pints a night. Up to 9 pints, that's an alcoholic?
Guest Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 9 pints a night is a fairly significant amount of alcohol.
Guest MattP Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 9 pints? I exceed that more than 4 times a week in a night. Looked a not guilty though, evidence was flimsy, word against another. It would have taken a pretty aggressive jury to condemn someone for years on that. Finally a Celtic fan cleared on these sort of charges, a incredible day.
Guest MattP Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Off to America to celebrate according to Sky News. Going to Tampa with the kids.

Captain... Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 ITV have just had a continuity announcer that announced this: "Who says children should be seen and not heard, more celebrities left red faced... ...in big star's little star." I honestly thought they had started serialising operation Yew Tree.
MooseBreath Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 How long in jail does the woman who tried to ruin his life with false accusations get? Decades surely.
Guest MattP Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 How long in jail does the woman who tried to ruin his life with false accusations get? Decades surely. Complete anonymity and probably some newspaper deal a few years down the line. It's a sick World.
Corky Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Complete anonymity and probably some newspaper deal a few years down the line. It's a sick World. As the verdict is not guilty, surely there can't be a newspaper deal?
purpleronnie Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 And one would hope this mans career isn't now over.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Off to America to celebrate according to Sky News. Going to Tampa with the kids. I heard he's celebrating by watching a film, he's got Aladdin.
Guest MattP Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 As the verdict is not guilty, surely there can't be a newspaper deal? I'm sure they could work something out in a few years. Just wait until he is dead if you have too.
MooseBreath Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Complete anonymity and probably some newspaper deal a few years down the line. It's a sick World. It is indeed. Le Vell is lucky he could afford a good lawyer. Most ordinary blokes would have been sent down. It's disturbingly easy to have your life ruined by a run in with one of these sick little liars.
leicsmac Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 The whole legislation around this kind of thing is seriously flawed, and that results in farces like this when innocent blokes get their names dragged through the mud - yet a laughably small amount of sexual assault cases actually go to court, let alone get a conviction. Far too many innocent blokes having their reputations ruined on the whims of a liar, and far too many guilty blokes getting away with doing horrific things. That being said, I don't know what the solution is.
Mike Oxlong Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 How long in jail does the woman who tried to ruin his life with false accusations get? Decades surely. Who said they were false?

MooseBreath Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Who said they were false? The jury who found him not guilty.
Mike Oxlong Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 The jury who found him not guilty. No they didn't.
Soar Fox Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 I knew a lad (unfortunately he died 4 years ago) who got took to court by a girl who accused him of rape. He was out with his friends got chatting to this girl they then were talking, doing shots together, having a laugh with his & her friends. Left together at the end of the night went back to his house and had sex. Taxi picked her up the next morning and she left. Early hours on a Monday morning police turn up and arrest him. It turned out the girl had a boyfriend and she felt guilty about cheating on him so accused the lad of raping her.
Soar Fox Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 No they didn't. So if they didn't find him not guilty how has he been cleared of it then?
leicsmac Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 So if they didn't find him not guilty how has he been cleared of it then? I think what he getting at is 'not guilty' can also mean 'enough reasonable doubt not to prove the crime occurred and convict', as well as 'totally innocent'.
MooseBreath Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 "The jury of eight women and four men took just over four hours to return verdicts of not guilty on all counts." - BBC Not much room for ambiguity there. I think what he getting at is 'not guilty' can also mean 'enough reasonable doubt not to prove the crime occurred and convict', as well as 'totally innocent'.I don't think so. Either you're guilty or you're not.
