MooseBreath Posted 17 September 2013 Posted 17 September 2013 No thread on the new iPhone? I remember the days when the apple fanbois would be rubbing themselves in furious anticipation of any new apple release. All seems to have died down since the pied piper passed away. Bit fickle, maybe. Anyway does anyone find it a bit suspicious, that it these times when the public is growing ever more aware that companies such as apple, google, facebook etc are in bed with the security agencies and god knows who else, that Apple decides that right now is when they want to put years, possibly decades old technology onto their phones? A fingerprint would sure make a valuable bit of data alongside your name, address, date of birth, occupation, bank details, hobbies, interests etc etc et... Apple getting the holy grail of data points before the masses realise they're being screwed?
21st Century Fox Posted 17 September 2013 Posted 17 September 2013 I'll hold out until they release the iPhone that you have to bite so it can read your dental records before you can play Angry Birds.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 17 September 2013 Posted 17 September 2013 Never had an iPhone so can't comment on them too much. However a few of my mates who do have them are falling out of love with them. I personally think its wank that you can't have your own ringtones etc without paying. I also laugh at the Apple geeks buying accessory after accessory for Apple to change the port thing on their latest one whatever that may be. They're as bad as a football team changing kits every season and daft fans willingly go out and buy it. I've a cracking phone in this HTC Desire HD and I bet it does everything a bang up to date iphone does.
MC Prussian Posted 17 September 2013 Posted 17 September 2013 Why there isn't such a global praise or enthusiasm for the new iPhone(s)? It's mainly down to the lack of "progress" from the last model to this one. Then again, I can see this being an issue for all major mobile phone companies. What can you offer when you already have mobile phones that can do pretty much anything? I still like my iPhone 4S, but I'm asking myself the question whether I really need to "upgrade" or make the switch at all. As for the fingerprint ID, Apple have stated that the info is only being stored on the individual phone and not on a server, cloud or whatnot (that is, if you want to believe them). Also, the "cheap" 5Cs doesn't appeal to me at all. Apple has always maintained a "high quality" label that cheap phones just don't work with the name Apple.
leicsmac Posted 17 September 2013 Posted 17 September 2013 Mobile phone tech has stagnated over the last couple of years. Most of the improvements being released now are gimmickery.
Ashley Posted 17 September 2013 Posted 17 September 2013 I'm sure if are collecting finger prints and someone eventually finds out Apple would be sued for every penny they have. You haven't signed any legal agreement have you?
AjcW Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Anyone tried downloading IOS7 yet???? its sort of... not working lol
HEGGSY Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Anyone tried downloading IOS7 yet???? its sort of... not working lolI can't even get the update to show it's ready for download
AjcW Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 I can't even get the update to show it's ready for download I got that far.... then it took an hour to download... then I clicked install and it said Update Failed, not available currently.
MC Prussian Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 I got that far.... then it took an hour to download... then I clicked install and it said Update Failed, not available currently. There's usually millions of people trying to download the new software just after the official release. Of course, it's bound to crash or work very slowly in the best case. I'd wait a few hours, then try again.
ScouseFox Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Updating... been doing it since about half 6. Estimated time of download remaining... 28 hours. Should be with us by the time I wake up on Friday then.
Bayfox Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Great now i have to cut off your fingers as well as nick your phone!!! Ffs.
Ashley Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Mine is now on 48 hours. Originally it was 15 minutes, then 12 hours then 48? deleted music and other stuff just for this update not amused.
ScouseFox Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 I think we're nearly there! Just 4 an a half hours so far.
LCFC FOX Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Mine took 10 minutes to download earlier? I don't get how it's taking people so long
ScouseFox Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Ok we're still not anywhere near I don't think.
MC Prussian Posted 19 September 2013 Posted 19 September 2013 Mine took maybe an hour to download. All is well now - will have the entire day to toy around with the new user surface and the new functions. Looks slick and the 3D effect is fantastic.
HEGGSY Posted 19 September 2013 Posted 19 September 2013 Mine is still stuck on the "checking for updates" page in the settings.
MC Prussian Posted 19 September 2013 Posted 19 September 2013 Mine is still stuck on the "checking for updates" page in the settings. It took me about three or four attempts to get it started from there. It'll work eventually.
Jimothy Posted 19 September 2013 Posted 19 September 2013 Took me a while last night but finally managed to get it about 10. Might take a while to get used to but I like it. Don't leave porn open in safari if you're going to multitask in view of people though!

Jimothy Posted 19 September 2013 Posted 19 September 2013 Why would you want to watch porn on an iPhone? The screen is way too small. I know, it was a joke more than anything! Although the rule would apply to the iPad too.Edit: Serious point though about if you're looking at something on safari you don't want others to see, like a present for your missus, probably best to close it.
Soar Fox Posted 19 September 2013 Posted 19 September 2013 I don't like it. Think it looks quite cheap and tacky, much prefer the old lay out.
hairy Posted 19 September 2013 Posted 19 September 2013 Updated. How to I close apps down now? I used to double click the button then a scrolling menu appeared at the bottom and I could close them from there and stop them draining the battery in the background but nothing happens like that now.

Swipe them upwards, not the little app the big page.
