ADK Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-24268852 What do people think?
Strokes Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 They need to get in line with the rest of the country, striking is pathetic. Its still a very cushy job thats benefits far outway any negatives.
Tommy G Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Beyond a joke. If I wasn't happy with my boss (in their case Michael Gove) or my pay and pension (pension is already rediculously good compared to the majority of the private sector) I wouldn't be able to strike If I striked I would be told to go home packing - there would be 50 people queing up outside my office to take my job. They are not in the real world unfortunately

They are not in the real world unfortunately Most have never lived in the real world, or had a real job. Path - school - advanced education - university - back to school. They are dilusional and childish, are they really good role models for our kids?
Guest MattP Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Most have never lived in the real world, or had a real job. Path - school - advanced education - university - back to school. They are dilusional and childish, are they really good role models for our kids? Spot on. Whole thing is embarrassing, they should take their CV's out into the real world and see what they are actually worth. Always nice to see them alinged with the SWP etc on these protests though, makes sure the nation can see them for what they are.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Agree with all of this. I had an argument on Facebook with my best mates missis who's a teacher. She was on about this performance related pay etc. Many construction trades are on price work which is based on performance related pay. Many plumbing firms also deduct wages off one plumber if another has to go and cure a leak. Again, performance related pay. Our firm hasn't had a payrise in line with inflation for nearly a decade. It's time they got in the real world

The swp just makes what they are doing seem politically motivated, which to be quite frank, it is!
purpleronnie Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Striking is pathetic?....the mind boggles. Everbody should accept everything and never strike, never stand up to what they believe in. Apathy really is alive and kicking in the UK.

Apathy really is alive and kicking in the UK. Better ways of doing it though? Who else could possibly strike aside from teachers, police and fire service etc. The rest of the private sector would lose their jobs if they did. Try telling that to the parents.who have had to take a days leave to look after their kids, and the kids who cant be educated today? You get all this flannel from teachers saying how much education is first for them, yet let the kids down today over arguments over (already generous) pensions and pay. Wouldn't last a week in the private sector

Apathy really is alive and kicking in the UK. Are you for real, there are thousands of industries that have had pay freezes, decreases. Throwing your toys out of the pram because daddy's ran out of money, is pathetic.
purpleronnie Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Are you for real, there are thousands of industries that have had pay freezes, decreases. Throwing your toys out of the pram because daddies ran out of money, is pathetic. Hence my comment, accept accep accept.

Wouldn't last a week in the private sector I think you'll find the fire service had a strike last week. And what are the "better ways of doing it", pray tell.?
Tommy G Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I think you'll find the fire service had a strike last week. I know? I was pointing out in my post that teachers, police and fire service are the only people that could strike....
Kitchandro Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Striking is pathetic?....the mind boggles. Everbody should accept everything and never strike, never stand up to what they believe in. Apathy really is alive and kicking in the UK. They shouldn't accept everything, but they should accept that they have things pretty easy compared to a lot of folk. You can't just down tools every time something happens that you don't like.
Strokes Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Hence my comment, accept accep accept.I agree with them, why wouldnt i accept. A company is ran for profit, it has to get labour at a price that makes its product saleable. This is how most private companies are run, maybe its time to privatise education.
Finnegan Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 **** me, there's a lot of stupid in this thread.

Guest MattP Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Public sector in strike while Tories are in power shock.
Parafox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I know? I was pointing out in my post that teachers, police and fire service are the only people that could strike.... Ok I misread that, sorry. Still think your argument is inherently wrong. Every person in a job has the right to withold their labour in protest against their employer. If you choose not to use that right for fear of losing you job, it doesn't say much for you employer.

Police force?
Parafox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Public sector in strike while Tories are in power shock. Historically, plenty of strikes whilst Labour have been in power.
Captain... Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Most have never lived in the real world, or had a real job. Path - school - advanced education - university - back to school. They are dilusional and childish, are they really good role models for our kids? Are you seriously saying that teaching is not a real job, then you clearly have no clue, all the teachers I know do a lot more work than most office jobs and have a hell of a lot more responsibility and pressure, it is pathetic to dismiss it as not a real job, when it is one of the most important in taking this country forwards. Yes they get good "holidays", but what you don't see is the amount time spent during those holidays preparing for the following term. I don't agree with the strike, but then I also think Gove is a dick and this is a culmination of many factors and not just one, but they have their right to do so.
outfoxed77 Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 If i take my two kids out of school I get a £50 fine, per child, per adult. So if i make the kids miss a days schooling it costs me £200, Teachers strike, the kids lose a days schoolingwhere do I send my invoice for childcare I've had to pay for today? Hypocrisy is astounding. I work in the private sector and my pension was recently changed for the worst, I've got two choices, lump it or find myself another job, a lesson these teachers would do well to learn.
Parafox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Police force? So you pick on the one group denied this right by law? Nit-picking
Guest MattP Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 So you pick on the one group denied this right by law? Nit-picking No it's a response to your eomment that everyone should be allowed to strike. Do you express that right to the police force?
