purpleronnie Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 A driver was attacked by a pack of motorcyclists after he drove over a number of riders during a rally in Manhattan. The moment was captured on a helmet camera after the altercation took place during an annual bikers' event in New York on Sunday. Police said the bikers started to attack the Range Rover after the driver, 33-year-old Alexian Lien, hit a rider. Fearing for the safety of his wife Roslyn Ng and five-month-old child, Mr Lien told police he accelerated to get away. The baby was in the back and Ng was in the front passenger seat. During the six-minute film it appears to show one biker braking in front of the black 4x4 before then being bumped by the driver. As motorcyclists begin to surround the vehicle one rider gets off his bike to remonstrate with the motorist. But as he draws close, the driver fearing for the safety of his wife and young child, aged under five, speeds off, hitting several bikers in his path. As he flees up to 30 angry bikers follow the 4x4 and it takes only a matter of seconds for them to catch up. After following the Range Rover for several minutes the driver is forced to pull over as the bikers and a white SUV block his path. But as one man confronts the man after pulling the door open the Range Rover again speeds off knocking down another biker. A few moments later he is then forced to stop at traffic lights and within seconds two bikers begin attacking the driver's side windows. The first takes off his helmet and smashes it against the door window, smashing it. The second tries to punch through the rear door window. The footage then stops. Today police said no one had been arrested and they are still investigating what happened. A NYPD spokesman said, according to the driver, a large number of motorcyclists were driving "erratically" and he "accidentally collided with one". He added the driver drove off "to avoid an impending assault". The motorist, who is in his thirties, was left needing hospital attention after suffering cuts and bruises to his face and body. The video, posted on web site LiveLeak, led to several viewers supporting the driver. One person, writing under the name Sgt Pepper, said: “I would do exactly the same thing. They're intimidating him and he's probably fearing for his life.†Another, 'Zacarra' wrote the driver acted in "self defence". "Did you see the biker break (sic) check him in the beginning. This poor guy was running for his life from the start," zacarra writes.
Captain... Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 It's a weird one as the bikers did seem to be driving in a reckless manner originally, not excusing the actions of the Range Rover, but it wasn't clear what happened in the original collision, then the RR driver acted like a cock, but then I don't agree with pursuing him on mass like that either.
ADK Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Tbh it looks like the bikers were 100% at fault. Hardly a nutter, sounds like he was actually quite restrained.
separator Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 The bikes slowed down right in front of the RR and surrounded him. Guy might have thought he was being car jacked, driving an expensive motor. He might have panicked and just wanted to get away by any means.
CupidStunt Posted 1 October 2013 Author Posted 1 October 2013 I dont know the full story to be honest, but from reading that quote, it looks like he was scared shitless
BoneDog Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Someone in a Range Rover down the road from us near Matlock did the same to a cyclist a month or two back. He just went bozo and thought 'I'm having you because you're wearing spandex' or something. I don't think they've caught him.
Guesty Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 From watching that I don't really blame the driver. And if it was me and a bloke was trying to smash the back window of my car where my young child was I'd have run him over and then backed up. He should really have driven to a police station though instead of driving into gridlock or stuck it in reverse and mowed a few more down once he got trapped. Was mob mentality - bet none of those bikers would have done it on their own.
z-layrex Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I'd have done the same thing, little cu**s. You do anything to protect your family.
Guest MattP Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 No idea how anyone could blame the driver here, clear intimidation and I would have done the same thing.
cambridgefox Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 I wonder how brave the cvnts would be one on one.it was clear at the start one of the bikers was being a twvt.Disgrace.
Beliall Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 I think the driver showed a lot of restraint. he could have knocked them all of their bikes quite easily. I would have.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Good I hate the majority of fvcking motorcyclists. What about ordinary motorcyclists?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 The guy who initially got hit definitely brake checked him, in fact it seems he had some beef with the driver before as he's eyeballing him as he passes the guy, then slows to a halt in front of him. Can't see bikers winning many friends with this. The guy was stupid to think he could out run bikes though. I'd have driven to a police station.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 To me it looks as though the guy who is initially rear-ended turns his head and brakes to talk to the rider with the camera. (Can't see any obvious fork dive so doesn't appear to be braking too sharply.) Range Rover driver looks like he doesn't brake or doesn't brake hard enough - given the amount of traffic around him is probably quite distracted. Mob mentality of the motorcyclists takes over and they confront him, while Range Rover driver's fight-or-flight mechanism flies off the handle. Doubt any of it was planned Note: me being a motorcyclist (who also occasionally drives a car) I'm not entering into any "f***ing stupid bikers/drivers" - you get arseholes in all walks of life, no need to generalise
z-layrex Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3cd_1380579664 A few videos pulled from the guy's YouTube account which he has now removed because it shows the behaviour of the group at what I believe is before the incidentRead more at http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3cd_1380579664#6JTiJktrpFEji0p4.99
MPH Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 I would be surprised if the driver's primary thought was to harm the bikers. I think he just wanted to get away. it said on the news over here that two of those bikers have been arrested and that on that one single day, they had received over 200 complaints about that biker group and their bad/ intimidating driving. Whilst every incident should be dealt with separately, those facts nor the public outcry over this incident caught on camera will help their cause. For a bike ride if that magnitude you are supposed to apply for a license.. this is supposed to make sure the police were aware and could help with the flow of traffic, ect but they didn't even apply for a license which won't help them either....
