lavrentis Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Rileys, Deacon Street in Leicester tried to charge me £4.15. Whats the most you've spent?
ADK Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Probably about 4 quid in London. Don't drink cider unless it's real stuff though, can't stand shit like strongbow.

Rincewind Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Isn't it Cider Month? I'm not much of a cider drinker but it has improved in recent years. Well the choice has with different flavours. Johm Smiths or cider? Cider. But the decent stuff not the commercialised.
lavrentis Posted 2 October 2013 Author Posted 2 October 2013 From tap for me it has to be Strongbow > Magners From a can its Magners > Strongbow

Bayfox Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Broad Oak>Scrumpy Jack>Thatcher's Gold>Strongbow>Aspalls>Stowford Press>Old Rosie>Cornish Rattler>Weston’s Vintage>Ashton Press>Woodpecker>Dry Blackthorn>Magners/Koppenberg etc Nah rattler, gold, but from a proper crushed ice pump. Rest are much of a muchness. Magners is the best bottled.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 Is Strongbow fake cider then? You can definitely taste the additives in Strongbow. Foul tasting and far too gassy. Magners for me.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 £4 for a pint of Strongbow at The Stag's Head, and that was while trying to save money for the possibility of extra time. The better stuff (I forget what they serve) is actually 10p cheaper.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 Think I paid about £4 or so in the Betjemen Arms in St. Pancras for a pint of Aspall in August last year. Magners really isn't too much of a step up from Strongbow, it's all bog standard cider. Symonds, Aspalls, Stowford Press and the like are all fairly nice but I'd not say they're top end stuff or in a different league to most cheap ciders, in honesty. All depends if you want dry or sweet anyway. Old Rosie is the boy.
Haydos Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 Aspalls isn't much better than Strongbow really, it's all fizzy high street cider so you can't be on your high horse about that. Can't stand the flat, strong stuff tbh, Aspalls/Magners/Strongbow is fine for a refreshing pint in summer.
Rocket-Ron Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 Waitrose do a lovely cider & a perry. gone up from £1.50 to £2.20 a bottle though
goose2010 Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 £4.85 in birmingham academy tuesday night for Sommerset Cider. Thought that was expensive so had a Carlsberg that was £5.05 a pint. Was absolutely disgusted! Plus they were both in a plastic glass!
Rincewind Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 Never realised cider cost so much. Talking about the £4 stuff. Bitters creeping up though. £3 in Kings Head now.
Beliall Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 $17 at Sydney airport in March. works out at £9.85 !!!
ADK Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 Is Strongbow fake cider then? Yes. Found a site that explains it: http://www.real-cider.co.uk/ciders-not-recognised-as-being-real/ Basically all these "ciders" like strongbow, magners and bulmers are based mostly on glucose syrup and heavily carbonated so I think "apple flavoured alcopops" would be a better description of them.
Tommy G Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 I paid a tenner for 2 litres at Hallaton Bottle Kicking last year. Lethal stuff couldnt remember the rest of the afternoon. it was home brewed mind
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 works out at £9.85 !!! I wish! The rate then was 69p to the $1 it's 57p to the $1 now. So it worked out at £10.35. I got ten dollars out to pay for it, couldn't believe it when he laughed and said "You'll need more than that"
Zingari Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 Cider always brings me out in a rash and gives me the squits , so basically it's always too high a price for me. I stick to Kronenbourg 1664.

I'm currently working a casual labouring job for $19 an hour. Standard price for a point of cider in Melbourne seems to be around $10
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 hope it was a nice pint It was! That is still very expensive but the wages over here are much higher.
