What bank do you all guys use and more importantly do any of you guys think the service you use is good.

Considering i'm a relatively young person i've banked with alliance & leicester/santander and now Lloyds. with all 3 companies i've had numerous problems with all of them. I'm currently with Lloyds and i've just contacted them to say that i've had £20 disappear out of my account and all they say is i've spent. I obviously know i've not spent it and it's not the 1st time it has happened. It does eventually re appear later in the week but that isn't the point as i'm not a rich person and i always need my money.

I'm fed up with using all these rubbish banks, can anybody actually recommend a good bank to use?

I work for one and we get people all the time who think they have more money than they do. You were probably overdrawn when the money went in from Sky or a company has taken longer than expected to take the money for a card payment.

You wouldn't believe the amount of arrogant knobs that demand to know why the bank has 'taken their money' only to have to be walked through step by step on what they've spent over the last week. Just because you've received your £120 JSA it doesn't mean it's all going to be there because you were buying your fags when you had no money last week and were overdrawn already, genius.

Bills account Witt First Direct and my main account is with Santander as they are my employer.

Regarding the missing £20, this may be a company that has authorised 2 payments however wont claim for it hence it re appearing a few days later. Some banks will delete this so you can spend it however if the company does indeed claim it you will go overdrawn.

That's something I certainly don't miss about retail banking, every hour you would get some idiot complaining that the bank is taking their money, look through their statement and every time without fail the customer has made a mistake and not looked at it properly yet doesn't understand or wants to take responsibility that they have actually spent their money.

What I don't get , is every time I go into the bank or building society to put a large cheque in  , they look at my account and tell me i should move it to another account that has better rates . This "new account" has a slightly different name and they just  push a few buttons and it all gets transferred . Why do they keep changing the names of the accounts and why so many ?

Does anyone else get this ?

yes that as well , And they always want to make me an appointment to see some financial adviser . I went once and ended up getting totally confused . I  tied up too much money  in long term stuff ( 5 years)that didn't really yield much better in the end.

semantics... it probably works out cheaper than having them all separately though.

Or with another bank/building society - Nationwide offer the same plus commission free withdrawals abroad and extended warranty for £10 a month for example

Do Nationwide still do the commission free withdrawals? We have an account for that purpose and they pulled that benefit.might be just for that account.

I think it's just for the premium account. I have a Halifax Clarity card just for that purpose - best way to spend on card and withdrawing money while you're there is better than anything you can get beforehand.

since lloyds tsb split to become two separate banks, why am i now with tsb and my wife with lloyds?

didnt they think it may be more convenient for a husband and wife to use the same bank?

It was done on a branch basis - Lloyds were forced to sell off a number of branches. Presumably you opened your account at one of these branches while your wife opened it at another.

It's done on a sort code basis, which like you say, is effectivly a branch.

As part of the divestment process you could have opted to stay with lloyds - I'm pretty sure you will have recieved a fair few letters saying this.  They would have then allocated you a new Lloyds sort code and account number.

joint accounts obviously would be moved to lloyds or tsb as per their sort code.  the bank shouldn't/wouldn't maintain the connecion between 2 married couples seperate accounts for various reasons.

Lloyds - always been happy with them.

I've always been satisfied with the black stallion too

Obviously you weren't at the branch I worked at!

You can tell a lot about someone's class by whether they say Lloyds or Lloyds TSB.Would have invited you both for cream teas with china tea sets.TSB pork scratchings and IRN BRU!

Pussy cats are scary. Ours presented us with a dead mouse this morning. I should be in the cats thread, clearly...
